I have owned both: a 2003 sonic blue cobra and a 2005 C6 Z51 Corvette. I modded the corvette more than the cobra... Cobra was at 489rwhp and the corvette at 630rwhp on the bottle and 491rwhp motor.
Now, the 03-04 cobra weighs about 3300 to 3600+ lbs and the C5 Z06 was (is) the lightest corvette ever 3100lbs!
Cobra stock (which it looked like and sounded like it had a cat back) is about 360rwhp (390bhp)
im a mustang fan myself but they cant keep up with the vette stock vrs stock. but for the cash you save buying a mustang you can build one that a vette could never dream of touching. i have a 97 gt with all you bolt ons, pi swap, tremec racing tranny, 3.73 gears and a custom tune. i raced a z06 and it was a close race. this was a street race and he jumped bad. if i can find the video i will post it.

I've seen a stock 2012 gt and an 2001 zo6 just recently and the 5.0's best time was a 13.7@ 106 mph hahaha. The zo6 (stock)went 12.8 @ 112 bogging it out the hole. This was in 95% heat and 3000 ft da. The zo6 runs as though it has 60 horsepower more.
The c5 zo6 laps faster than the more powerful viper gts on a road course. You're in denial, but it's ok, go back to the bench racing nationals and leave the real racing to us who know what we are doing.

The IROC and Z06 gets a lot of male attention (guys really like that IROC though). I get complimented on the Daytona Charger the least but it still gets its props. But I like women attention not men

Skidpad is mainly just an indicator of how sticky the tires are, anyways. There's a lot more to suspension design. The Boss may grip like crazy on a track, but how well does the live axle do on a typical road with bumps & dips? Most live axle cars jump around like crazy and provide very little confidence around corners.

1. Cobra is making 400hp at the wheels. Accounting for the 15-20% drivetrain loss, that means it's producing 470+hp at the crank, 70 more than the Z06.
2. I have huge respect for the new Mustang GT and Boss, but to say it will out handle a modern Vette is downright ignorant. Yes it pulls 1G on the skidpad, but Z06/ZR1 will pull 1.07. In addition to the greater grip, the vette is lighter with greater hp allowing it to pull through and out of corners faster. Just stating the facts
@oxcide101. The weight was the main issue I didn't buy another Mustang the second go round. Ford would add little bits of power and add enough weight to cancel it out. My C6 is 3200lbs. Good enough for me. Then they keep putting on that BS solid axle so you always get left in the twisties. The Vette solved all those issues out of the box.

Corvette has a pretty good weight advantage over that Mustang and slides throught the air quite a bit better since the stang had the top down. Z06 Probably makes 345 wheel or so. I've owned a GT mustang convirtable, and performance wise i hated it but if i'd gotten a cobra it would have been alright i think :)
Was a great car to cruise in though. Have got a convirtable C5 now so it's all good. Get yourself some LG Motorsports headers on that vette :)
They just didn't have the room to have a real race. The Vette was starting to pull slightly and would have put some distance on this Mustang, but everytime, the run up on traffic. Both are nice cars. I had a modded 02 GT convertible and now I have an 09 Vette C6. Very different cars, but both are loads of fun. You can never beat a Mustang for sound, hands down. LOL

Hi mikey - My 02 Z put 356rwhp on a mustang portable when it was bone stock with 3000 miles on it - and later it did 374 on the same dyno with just a cai and tune. In my experience, the "terminator" style Cobra's need to have 100 more rwhp to stay with a Z06 - so the car in the vid would, in my opinion, need to have 450 rwhp to hang with a stock Z. I also think the runs were done from around 65mph, and that is a good sweet spot for a stock Z in 3rd gear.

Convertible cobra adds another 300lb addiion to weight. Makes a big ASS difference when its 600more lbs then the vette.
Over 100 more hp in the vette, which hp makes a big difference when it comes to a vette. Its basically stock against stock since the cobra comes supercharged.

basically the title of this should be stock z06 vs stock cobra. The terminators all have 425 hp stock. They were underrated at 390 hp but on the dyno, their much higher. 425 at the flywheel not the wheels. More like 360 at the wheels

@SHTINONCHEVY stock cobra isn't 11.93...thats with more than a pulley swap and a few bolt ons, nice try...i did a 12.2 in my 240 (slicks) and beat this stock cobra 3 times at the track last week, the fastest time he pulled was 13.03, his is bone stock, with just a 2.81 pulley,tensioner,CAI,ACCUFAB TB,exhaust, and custom tune you can expect mid to low 12s...probably around the 12.2-12.4, i actually like the 03-04 cobras...and i also enjoy shitting on chevys as well, but with my 4 banger import..

I've seen a stock 2012 gt and an 2001 zo6 just recently and the 5.0's best time was a 13.7@ 106 mph hahaha. The zo6 (stock)went 12.8 @ 112 bogging it out the hole. This was in 95% heat and 3000 ft da. The zo6 runs as though it has 60 horsepower more.
The c5 zo6 laps faster than the more powerful viper gts on a road course. You're in denial, but it's ok, go back to the bench racing nationals and leave the real racing to us who know what we are doing.

The regular c5 non zo6 pulls .95. I've built many cars and have owned a few vettes and mustangs. You're a magazine racer, i'm a real racer. I've seen 2011 gts run at the dragstrip in person(a few of them) and have yet to see one break out of the 13's and go faster than 106 through the traps.

A live axle car cant handle nearly as well as it can on the street vs skid pad. Also, c5 zo6's pull 1.03 gs on the skid pad, c6 z06 1.07 and 1.10 for the zr1. Not too many cars to today's standard can touch the c5 zo6 on a road course, especially a mustang.

@NoFear584 I like the look of the C6 vette over any modern muscle car but I can't discount that women love that mustang. I have a convertible stang, IROC camaro, Daytona Charger, and a C6 Z06 and women dig the stang the most. Now I know a lot of guys aren't really into women but I like the attention. The IROC and Z06 gets a lot of male attention (guys really like that IROC though). I get complimented on the Daytona Charger the least but it still gets its props. But I like women attention not men

@SHTINONCHEVY You're quoting the Edmunds test which tested a C5 Z06 with worn-out tires (which they clearly stated). C5 Z06s hit 1.03g on the skidpad stock with new tires.
Skidpad is mainly just an indicator of how sticky the tires are, anyways. There's a lot more to suspension design. The Boss may grip like crazy on a track, but how well does the live axle do on a typical road with bumps & dips? Most live axle cars jump around like crazy and provide very little confidence around corners.

1. Cobra is making 400hp at the wheels. Accounting for the 15-20% drivetrain loss, that means it's producing 470+hp at the crank, 70 more than the Z06.
2. I have huge respect for the new Mustang GT and Boss, but to say it will out handle a modern Vette is downright ignorant. Yes it pulls 1G on the skidpad, but Z06/ZR1 will pull 1.07. In addition to the greater grip, the vette is lighter with greater hp allowing it to pull through and out of corners faster. Just stating the facts

@oxcide101. The weight was the main issue I didn't buy another Mustang the second go round. Ford would add little bits of power and add enough weight to cancel it out. My C6 is 3200lbs. Good enough for me. Then they keep putting on that BS solid axle so you always get left in the twisties. The Vette solved all those issues out of the box.

Corvette has a pretty good weight advantage over that Mustang and slides throught the air quite a bit better since the stang had the top down. Z06 Probably makes 345 wheel or so. I've owned a GT mustang convirtable, and performance wise i hated it but if i'd gotten a cobra it would have been alright i think :)
Was a great car to cruise in though. Have got a convirtable C5 now so it's all good. Get yourself some LG Motorsports headers on that vette :)

They just didn't have the room to have a real race. The Vette was starting to pull slightly and would have put some distance on this Mustang, but everytime, the run up on traffic. Both are nice cars. I had a modded 02 GT convertible and now I have an 09 Vette C6. Very different cars, but both are loads of fun. You can never beat a Mustang for sound, hands down. LOL

@fastfords a 2003-04 cobra will run you $20,000+ (in my area)... a 1998-2000 c5 non zo6 i have found numerous for around $14,000. and c5 z06 for around $22,000. I actually really like Cobras but you really cant beat a Vette.

That is believeable the vette is stock and the cobra is 400whp.

Hi mikey - My 02 Z put 356rwhp on a mustang portable when it was bone stock with 3000 miles on it - and later it did 374 on the same dyno with just a cai and tune. In my experience, the "terminator" style Cobra's need to have 100 more rwhp to stay with a Z06 - so the car in the vid would, in my opinion, need to have 450 rwhp to hang with a stock Z. I also think the runs were done from around 65mph, and that is a good sweet spot for a stock Z in 3rd gear.

Convertible cobra adds another 300lb addiion to weight. Makes a big ASS difference when its 600more lbs then the vette.
Over 100 more hp in the vette, which hp makes a big difference when it comes to a vette. Its basically stock against stock since the cobra comes supercharged.

basically the title of this should be stock z06 vs stock cobra. The terminators all have 425 hp stock. They were underrated at 390 hp but on the dyno, their much higher. 425 at the flywheel not the wheels. More like 360 at the wheels

WHAT!?!?!We've NEVER ran ANY stock Z06 with Mark Martin test driving for us in the 11's!! EVER- I do find it funny that there are so many Vette VS Mustang videos on here- Not even in the same class...
