who pays for the cost of the pc to be shipped to the one location?? also who pays for the PC to be shipped to ayers rock (centre of outback australia)?? what would stop retailers or middle men from buying in bulk and selling it themselves???
Nice idea...I know that I have at least two comps sitting around at my parent's house that are not being used. It's sad really how much stuff we waste. Check out my 10^100 idea. jrb
My experience is that this thought is typical: "Old laptop, slow performance? Oh it's time for a new one anyway ..." It doesn't make it right, but a lot of people manage their computing technology this way.
And electricity problems? That does not happen anymore, unless you attempt to install a desktop in the middle of the Amazon jungle, and perhaps there you will find electric power wired up, and internet is available by satellite, no problem there either. The possibilities of the good things that can happen after connecting people to people and the unlimited knowledge of the internet are unfathomable.
(continued)....(i.e. I am of Hispanic origin and have lived abroad for a very long time, instead of being absorbed by the host culture I acknowledge my heritage, I care to protect and respect it, as well as educate others about it...BECAUSE I HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE I HAVE THE POWER TO LOVE IT). I think your idea is just great I guess I had the idea of the "what" and you had the idea of the "how-to"...just brilliant, good luck with it!!
It is a BRILLIANT idea...the first thing I thought of was COMMUNICATION = KNOWLEDGE, ISOLATION = IGNORANCE = SELF-DESTRUCTION if it had not been for whatever means of communication we have come up thrughout the course of human history our so called development would have never occurred, by that rationality I propose a global movement towards education at every level and on everything....
idea is great , but do u think - maybe people in pure countries do not have electricity !? and that the point of computers ? internet? but internet cost +++ so without internet? nothing to do so.. dunno . but i dont like yours idea. my opinion. good luck! :P
Thanks for the comment - Good points! I've already thought about these. Back in 1983, I traveled extensively through India, even spending one month in a town with electricity for only 6 hours a day. But that was 25 years ago. Progress has happened. You bring up a good point about Internet cost, but that's where microlending can play a valuable role - it's mentioned in my Google 10^100 proposal. Thanks and best wishes!
