Most of these weapons are military issue(probably used in actuall combat).Having a full-auto & semi-automatic modes.Compared to civilian semi-auto only versions of the same firearms here in the US.For just $150-$200 for one of those,that's a great deal.There's cheap and unquality made handguns for that same price.For most of us gun hobby collectors and gun enthused,we'll pay for an "arm & a leg" for 1 of those.

The idea that chaos in Somalia boils down to the availability of weapons is naieve and simplistic. It ignores Somali history and culture. It is a dangerous position because it encourages people of good will to spend precious energy treating a symptom rather than the desease.

You can go to a gun show in the US and buy an AK-47 without a background check, just give them the money and take your gun and we don't have thousands of people gunning each other down every day, its just poor leadership, drugs, and greed that makes that place so fucked up.

However if you manufacture your own parts and make a new full auto M16 copy and you have the lisence to do so they go for about $200. They are not worth very much since barely anyone can buy them.

Instability has been around for years in Somalia; to pinpoint the blame on a gun is blasphemy. Instability came from the lack of a stable government. Go look up Said Barre, look up Mohamid Farrah Adid, look up what led to the instability before the gun is blamed for it all. However, with that said, I must agree to the fact that the easy access to guns in Somalia does not help the stabilization.
Also, "guns don't kill people, AK-47s kill people." Last I checked, an AK-47 is a gun.

The "reporters" are clueless. The country isn't unstable because of guns. It's unstable beacuse there's no government. Over 70% of American homes have guns and we don't see anything like Somalia here. 100% of Swiss male citizens have fully automatic rifles and their country is peaceful. Taking guns from the law abiding Somalis will just leave them vulnerable to illegal gun owners. I currently have an AK-47, an AR15, and a dozen handguns. My neighbors have them too. No murders here.
