this was good! i thank God for this info. i deal with a jw daily and i've shown all types of scriptures and even the errors in their bible. that is a strong hold like no other. total brain washing.
7SpringsCofC I have no problem calling my self one of Jehovahs Witnesses because it distinguishes me from those who supposedly call themselves Christians. When we go out and preach to none Christian religions such as Judaism and Muslims, they can sometimes see the difference from those who actually follow Christ (JWs) to those who claim to follow Christ (those who claim to be Christians). A simple definition of a Christian: is a follower of Christ.—Holman Bible Dictionary;
As followers of Christ as I pointed out we follow his example because Jesus is the ""faithful and true witness" of "his God and Father." Jehovah—Rev. 1:5, 6
I watched your video again and you really dont seem to understand why we call ourselves JWs. To give you a little history on JWs, we were known just as Bible Students/Christians, but when we were trying to witness to other faiths about the truths of the bible they would confuse us with other people who also would call themselves Christians.
The truth of the matter the term Christian has been watered down that almost every other person gives them self that title with not really knowing what it means to be a Christian. In my opinion its most appropriate for those who have true Christian teachings to call themselves Jehovahs Witnesses.
Now considering I answered your question, in Rev 1:5 "from Jesus Christ, "the Faithful Witness," "The firstborn from the dead," & 3:14 says ".These are the things that the Amen says, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation by God" who was Jesus a Witness of?
These scriptures indicate Jesus was the witness of who?
(1 Timothy 6:13) In the sight of God, who preserves all things alive, and of Christ Jesus, who as a witness made the fine public declaration before Pontius Pilate, I give you orders
(Revelation 3:14) These are the things that the Amen says, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation by God,"
Jesus was a Witness of Jehovah and as Christians we follow our Lord Jesus become Witnesses of Jehovah. These scriptures alone refute your video. Case close.
Let's examine the scriptures: 1 Tim 6:13, "I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate." This scripture is in reference to when Jesus Christ was on trial for his life before Pontius Pilate (John 18:28-40).
It should be obvious to the astute student of the Bible to understand this. However, where in the Bible does the scripture tell us to call ourselves Jehovah Witnesses in the New Testament today?
You cant pull a name from the old testament to validate your religion then post it on this account, case closed as if the case is really closed. These scriptures that you are referencing has nothing to do with the Lord telling anyone who has a desire to follow Him to call themselves Jehovah Witnesses!
As a matter of Fact, your religion was founded by Charles Taze Russell where there is no mention of him in scripture. Listen to what the Bible tells us, Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12). You dont have to believe this but this is what the Bible teaches us. Please answer my questions and let us continue to study. Take care.
7SpringsCofC Youre right those verses that were mention has "nothing to do with the Lord telling anyoneto call themselves Jehovah Witnesses", however, the principal is there that we follow Jesus example as he was a Witness of Jah, so as Christians we should be Witnesses of Jah and of Jesus too.
7SpringsCofC You asked "where in the Bible does the scripture tell us to call ourselves Jehovah Witnesses in the New Testament today?" Answer: The bible doesnt tell us to call ourselves JWs same as the bible doesnt tell us to call ourselves Christians, so that is an irrelevant point.
In Acts 11:26 the term Christian is mentioned but nothing showing that "we need to call ourselves Christian". Followers of Christ were also known as "tes ho·dou´-The Way/ This Way-Acts 9:2 & 19:9 but nothing is mentioned that WE HAVE TO call ourselves that. 1 Tim 6:13 is referencing John 18:28-40 but you missed the point, who was Jesus a witness of? Answer: To his God and Father Jehovah. And as followers of Christ we follow his example and become Witnesses of HIS God and Father too.
My response: (1). By your own admission, you understand that the Bible "NEVER" told YOU nor anyone to call yourselves Jehovah Witnesses, so why do something that is not Authorized by God! (Colossians 3:17). (2). You stated that the Bible NEVER told us to call ourselves Christians. Allow me to direct your mind to
(a). Acts 11:26, "And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called CHRISTIANS FIRST in Antioch." (b). Acts 26.28, "Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a CHRISTIANS." (c). 1 Peter 4:16, "Yet if any man suffer as a CHRISTIAN, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf".
It is obvious to me that you are unaware of scripture. How can a man who believes in God even post such flaccid argument on a public website and not having read nor understood the scriptures? How can you say that calling ourselves CHRISTIANS is an irrelevant point? The Bible only makes Christian in one church and it is the church that the Lord has built (Matthew 16:18).
I see that you quickly tried to recant on your statement when you found Christian in the Bible. What part of, And the disciples were CALLED CHRISTIANS FIRST in Antioch you dont understand. The Bible tells us that this is what they (and we) call ourselves, Christians! (Acts 11:26). (1). King Agrippa understood that they were called Christians, NOT Jehovah Witnesses, this is why he told Paul that he almost persuaded him to become one.
(2). Peter wrote, If a man suffers as a Christian, (Not a Jehovah Witness) let him not be ashamed! And by the way Defending YHWH, there is NO SUCH THING as a Jehovah Witness Christian, you cant find such unauthorized statement in the Bible!
1 Peter 4:16 I agree with that text. But what type of Christian? Baptist, Methodist, Calvinist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, the list goes on. The term Christian has been watered down as prophesied as "The wheat and the weeds "Matthew 13:37-43. As True Christians we follow the Lord Jesus as he was a Witnesses to whom? Rev 1:5, 3:14.
You keep avoiding this question. Jesus was a Witnesses to his God and Father Jehovah, so we follow his example as Jehovahs Christian Witnesses.
Your not consistent with your argument not only did Agrippa understand "that they were called Christians" but he also understood they were called "The Way/ This Way-Acts 9:2 & 19:9 but nothing is mentioned that WE HAVE TO call ourselves that". Not only "
7SpringsCofC I already covered Acts 11:26 its seems you never read my post. Let me remind you "In Acts 11:26 the term Christian is mentioned but nothing showing that "we need to call ourselves Christian". Followers of Christ were also known as "tes ho·dou´-The Way/ This Way-Acts 9:2 & 19:9 but nothing is mentioned that WE HAVE TO call ourselves that."
Listen Defending YHWH, this is what we call subject hopping. The subject that were discussing is the early church calling themselves Christians. When you have NO valid argument on brethren in the early church NOT calling themselves Christians (as youve stated for the world to see, not only did you NOT prove your argument and was wrong),
Instead of dealing with your own ineptitude (or lack of understanding) and admitting that your statement was inaccurate, you jump to another subject to try and prove your last weak argument in which it has no substance! We can deal with The Way but first, admit that you were incorrect when stating that,
as the bible doesnt tell us to call ourselves Christians when in FACT it does (Acts 11:26, 26:28; 1 Peter 4:16) then we can move on. Lets be honest with ourselves, then we can have a proper understanding of the scripture.
(1). Youve already admitted for the world to see that, (these are your own words) 7SpringsCofC Youre right those verses that were mention has "nothing to do with the Lord telling anyoneto call themselves Jehovah Witnesses", however, the principal is there that we follow Jesus example as he was a Witness of Jah, so as Christians we should be Witnesses of Jah and of Jesus too. (a). Please see how inconsistent you are.
Youve admitted that the Lord never told anyone to call themselves Jehovah Witnesses then in the same voice, you mention that we follow Jesus exampleso as CHRISTIANS we should be Witnesses of Jah and Jesus too. How can you call yourself something that the Bible never told you to call yourselves (Jehovah Witnesses), then admit, so as Christians, then say, there is no where in the Bible for us to call ourselves Christians when we can read it in three
(2). Listen to what you said just a few hours ago, 1 Peter 4:16 I agree with that text.
(a). You state that you agree with the text but what type of Christian? I answered that question when I stated to you that, The Bible only makes Christian in one church and it is the church that the Lord has built (Matthew 16:18), Therefore, those Christians in the Lords church has not been watered down, And, it is not these denominations that youve mentioned (including yoursKingdom Hall).
Notice where all the Christians were, Acts 2:47, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. Who was the Lord adding to the church? As you stated, those who follow Jesus, which are CHRISTians! NOT Jehovah Witnesses! And it is only fitting for Him to do so because He is the one who established His church (Matthew 16:18)
Therefore, He would know who were being saved as He instructed! (b). You stated, As True Christians we follow the Lord Jesus I thought that we were NOT to call ourselves Christians. And here you are stating As True Christians Inconsistency again by you! We call ourselves Christians because its what we find in the Holy Scriptures and again, there is NO passage in the New Testament that tells Christians in the Lords church to call themselves Jehovah Witnesses (As you have agreed to).
). (c). Another one of your inconsistencies, listen to what you said a few hours ago, (speaking about me) Your not consistent with your argument not only did Agrippa understand "that they were called Christians" So, Defending YHWH, are you admitting that King Agrippa understood that they were called Christians?
Or are you holding onto your last posted statement that reads, In Acts 11:26 the term Christian is mentioned but nothing showing that "we need to call ourselves Christian. Which one is it? Lets establish this point first, then move on, ok?
(2)(c) Again there is no inconsistency. Either Im not making myself clear or your not understanding me. Not once in my statement did I say "we were NOT to call ourselves Christians" I already established that 4 weeks ago (read the postings again).
You have this unbiblical premise that WE HAVE to call ourselves Christians ONLY when the biblical text shows Christians were called "Apollos," "Cephas" "the Way" "Disciples" "sect of Nazarene" and even got worst to the point where there were divisions among them1 Cor 11:18
Agrippa did understood that they were called Christians just as he understood they were called by other terms.
JWs follow Pauls council "Become imitators of me, even as I am of Christ.1 Cor1:1" Jesus was most certainly a Witness of Jah just like the early Christians were.
(2)(b) There is no inconsistency. By my statement "As True Christians we follow the Lord Jesus" should have revealed to you I have no problem with the term Christian. I never said "I thought that we were NOT to call ourselves Christians", I NEVER made that claim you are adding words to my statement. My whole point is the early Church were known as Christians also other terms too, that is my point.
Acts 2:47 says NOTHING about the term "CHRISTians" and those followers of Christ where actually Witnesses of Jah (again they were followers of Christ as he was a Witness of Jah) . If you read through context in Acts 2 they are reading the Hebrew portion of Psalms & Joel showing how Jesus fulfilled the prophecy in those Hebrew text. It was Jehovah God who is the stem of those prophecy. To deny Jesus was a Witness of Jah is denying he was Witness of God
Responding to (2)(a) The Restorationist church denomination of the Church of Christ founder Leroy Garrett contradicts your statement because he agrees "those Christians in the Lords church HAS BEEN watered down" but in his terms ""real Christian" as distinct from "Christian." And "all those who profess Christianity are Christians, though many of them, maybe even most of them, are bad Christians or lukewarm Christians? "WHO IS A REAL CHRISTIAN? Volume 06, Number 7, July 1964
7SpringsCofC Im certain "those Christians in the Lords church" is not part of 7 Springs Church of Christ or those denomination that were just mentioned. JWs hold the biblical teaching of early Christianity in comparison to those denominations that were just mentioned.
response to (3) Again, again, again, and again. We follow Jesus example "from Jesus Christ, "the Faithful Witness," "The firstborn from the dead," and "The Ruler of the kings of the earth."To him that loves us and that loosed us from our sins by means of his own bloodand he made us to be a kingdom, priests to his God and Father—yes, to him be the glory and the might forever" Rev 1:5-6. You can not deny Jesus was a witness of Jah, thats why you keep avoiding that fact.
Your response to (1)(a) There is no inconsistency as you try to claim. The biblical text shows "a great cloud of witnesses" of Jah Starting with Heb 11-12:2 "looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith". As the text brought out those Worshipers of Jah were his Witnesses and we are to look at Jesus as the greatest and perfect Witness of Jah. You always seem to avoid the point that Jesus was one of Jehovahs Witnesses.
7SpringsCofC With respect to the statement I made "the bible doesnt tell us to call ourselves Christians" may be I worded it wrong. You are correct the name was given by Divine appointment, it is most likely that Saul and Barnabas were directed to give it; and that, therefore, the name Christian is from God. The point I was trying to make is the term Christian wasnt always displayed when referring to a follower of Christ (as the examples I just gave)
7SpringsCofC I never argued the term Christian wasnt used by the "early church". My argument is they were called by other names too "the sect of the Nazarenes" or just "this sect." Acts 24:5; 28:22, or The Way" (Acts 9:2; 19:9, 23; 22:4) or just plain Disciples Acts 6:7, 9:19. It even reached a point where they were stating "I belong to Paul," "But I to A·pol´los," "But I to Ce´phas" 1 Corinthians 1:12;
Even in the time when the disciples were still living there were Christians out there but went by another name to distinguish themselves from other "so called" Christian teachings. To me it seems you dont know too much about Church History.
