  • There's only one cure for an emo kitty.

    THROW IT IN THE POOL!

  • I can relate to Henri. I often feel lost, and i do always, feel like a cat. What a beautiful video. What a beautiful story. What a beautiful cat.

  • @dcp8nts oh yeah u think that u are like me hmmm........I dont think so :D

  • Is this Debussi's score? Or what?

  • @farennikov Gymnopedie No.1, by Erik Satie.

  • Good Emo-Cat. my eyes full of tears, blya

  • *wipes tear using a handkerchief*

    Remarkable.

  • @WillBraden I'll see what I can do. Keep up the good work.

  • Most inspiring line there..

"My thumbs are not opposable..Yet I oppose everything"

    Bravo Henri! Je t'aime!

  • lol

  • I am attending the school this student was a part of: Seattle Film Institute. Excellent school. I love this piece. Who knew cats were so deep and so...misunderstood.

  • @Guigley Thank you! Now go upload something....before and after you graduate.

  • ah, 'poor henri!!! his sadness is glorious. (i LOVE this video!!!!)

  • This is like a metaphor for America 0.0

  • omg, I am going to start a new religion. amazing

  • this is a BRILLIANT VIDEO! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! makes me a little sad for the little guy! :)

  • o kurwa piekna opowiesc!!!

  • @tomme1 "a whore is a beautiful story"?

  • Comment removed

  • @WillBraden

Yes "o kurwa" in polish means something more or less like "by Jove" or "I'll be stuffed" :]

so "o kurwa piekna opowiesc" could be translated to "bitch, what a beautifull narration!!!"

    bless

  • @tomme1 Fair enough, but I think we can both agree that a whore is, indeed, a beautiful story.

  • Nous Voudrions "Henri Deux"!!!!!!

  • lozzaaaaa

  • find me lozza

  • Brilliant! Fortunately, I have no ear for perfectly-spoken French, so the existential weight of Henri's sad existence is full and weary-making. Had I not quit twelve years ago, i would had smoked a cigarette, and cursed God for making death so pleasurable as fire on a weed rolled in paper and stuck in my mouth. And cried hot tears for this black cat. Stuck. In life.

  • I've shown this video to everyone I know with a sense of humor. Love it! And to the people talking about his French - really? Nothing better to do with your time? It's a parody video, he's not running for the French Parliament.

  • my name i s Henri!!!!!

  • Emo cat is very emo!

  • This is one of the funniest videos! "Cat puke on bed again. Your turn!" LOL. <3 Henri.

  • Still one of the best youtube videos ever.

  • I'm a grad student studying Social Work, and my professor showed this to us to explain Existential Theory. Nice work =)

  • @gruzypants That's awesome! I've got a sequel coming up in a week or so, so be sure to subscribe and check back in!

  • @gruzypants my graduate professor showed us to explain Existential Therapy too!! we laughed, then awed quiet...loved it, great job.

  • This is groovy ^_^ Multiple opposable thumbs up.

That said, this cat obviously cannot speak french. Nor does it sound enough like a real cat. I suggest you interview a real french cat, and have said animal tell you what needs to be done. :D HAHAHAH some of the comments are gold :D

  • Very entertaining, but the French is pretty terrible. :)

  • I absolutely love this video and the Satie piece you chose, thank you!

  • What is the piece of music you use for this?

  • @KarinaWow

I agree. what is the music played in Henri???

  • @ghostlyme Erik Satie. One of the Gymnopedies.

  • I have loved this film ever since it was in the 3 minute masterpieces at the Seattle Times. Ironically, I am fostering Henri's twin for Seattle Animal Shelter while getting ready to say goodbye to a nice French friend who is moving to London in August. My own version of ennuie will be coming soon, but I will always have your Henri to see me through.

  • Oh, le pauvre Henri, chat ennuie!

  • Nicely done, Will. A friend sent the link because my cat's name is Henry and also she knows I love cats. So far my Henry does not suffer from such existential pain, but he is starting to show signs of boredom with the food and his karmic destiny to not have any opposable thumbs. I'll keep my eye on his philosophical outlook. Meanwhile, keep up the good work!

  • Excellent! Funny! Sad! Funny.

  • This is wonderful. If you do a sequel, you should consider finding a Frenchman for the voice-over. A slight accent adjustment might make all the difference.

  • are you implying that my French is less than perfect?

  • @WillBraden I agree that french speaker would improve it tremendously.... It's awesome and cute, but the french hurts my ears.

  • @narf4444 Yes, as I've mentioned many times, I DON'T SPEAK FRENCH. It's a parody, and making Henri speak French is just part of the gimmick. It's best to not worry about my pseudo-French and just read the subtitles.

  • @narf4444 A "tentative de suicide" can remedy that, and your damn attitude.

  • @jessiebart !no, do the same voice. who cares about the 'french' accent.

a language, is a language is a language.

i am sure you have an accent when you speak english. maybe we should find someone from england to speak for you?

  • Comment removed

  • Wonderful. I laughed until I cried.

    o mais oui

  • Henri is so tormented!

  • Pretty funny. What did you make it for?

And thanks for standing up for The Kingz of Flo. It has not gone unnoticed.

  • it was for film school a while back.

your video really must have taken a huge amount of time and planning. good stuff.

  • Good. Original.

But I think at the end it should read "un film de" not du. Du is the contracted form of "de le" and I'm sure your name doesn't need the definite article in front of it.

  • I am the Will Braden.

  • Formidable

  • Bravo!

  • Still one of my favourite youtube videos of all time.

  • Che poverino!

  • I can't wait to go home where I have a computer with speakers to hear just how bad the cat's accent is.

    M. Braden, you are a master of the genre. Five stars.

  • C'est merveilleux! Henri est un vrai poete. Etre est souffrir.

  • The piece of music playing is Gymnopedie No. 1 by Erik Satie

  • I know the background song, but can't remember the name, can someone please help?

  • Brilliant and beautiful...

  • i really enjoyed this, and immediately shared it with whoever would watch.

  • Hahaha, this is briliant...

  • Wonderful! Merci

  • poor henri. life is quite difficult sometimes. even when it seems like it shouldn't be.

  • To WillBraden: Wonderful work, but I have a question. Is this a parody of a specific film scene, or am I just picking up a generic "French art film" vibe? The voice-over spoken over "Gymnopedie" seems familiar, but I can't think of a specific film it matches. Apologies if this was answered previously.

  • nothing specific, just a general parody.

  • i have been deeply amused w/Henri from the start. some days Henri provides my only solace.....sigh

  • I absolutely love this video! My cat's name is Henri (in my mind, he is French ;) and my favorite movie is Amelie, which this video closely resembles. This hits the nail right on the head with two of my most beloved things in the world. Fabulous :) Thanks for sharing.

  • I want to steal this video for my film class. Is that bad?

I just love it so much! Wish I could be as creative as you Will!

Give Henri a few real sardines for his fantastic acting debut, haha.

  • Enjoyed the video a lot, A+, the french pronunciation was terrible though, heh.

  • phénoménal!!!

  • Heeee!

  • You have captured our struggle magnificently! A feline Fellini!

  • This is genius. My cat is sneering at me as I write this.

  • Don't listen to them, Will. You did a marvelous job, and your French is perfect for the occasion. And may I add that you're acting as well. Kudos!

  • yeah, I don't speak French, kiddo. it's a parody. hence the subtitles, since I know my French is nonsense.

and by the bye, why does bad French make me German or Russian?

you can't make some of these comments up, I swear. it's hilarious!

  • they were probably trying to place your accent based on the way you spoke french.

the same way someone speaking english can sound latino, or french, or german.

so apparently, when speaking french, at least one person feels you have a german accent :)

  • hilarious!

  • J'aime des films foreign!

  • i can't help myself - i love Henri, also. and whoever wrote that below about anna karenina putting his cat food down - that was sublime.

  • ambiguous discontent, oh Henri, how you suffer

  • I love Henri!!!

  • this and keyboard cat are my favorite

  • Henri is suffering from feline ennui. Humans experience the same thing at times. Le Chat de John-Paul Sartre fer sure.

  • I can't count the ways in which I love this! Outstanding. I assume it was Anna Karina who put Henri's food down?

  • Absolutely marvelous! Thanks!

  • I DONT GET IT....

  • I love it; an existentialist cat! ;-)

  • Film Noir at it's finest!!

  • haha, man this is great. <3

  • Genius.

  • oh my stars! i love it so much.

  • paras kissa !!! mun kaveri on henri

  • very nice video.

Does anyone know the name of the piano song in the background?

  • Gymnopedie No. 1.

  • great job

  • This is such an amazing film!

  • Simply marvelous! Thanks.

  • funny

  • haunted...but so cute!

  • Ah! Henri at Marienbad!!

  • Absolutely brilliant!

  • This is brillant :)

  • aww

Je adore Henri! Il est mignon!

  • Will Braden, do keep that camera running in case Henri has another existential crisis! This is my kind of humor.

  • Hilarious, a French existentialist cat. I have one of them too. I think all cat lovers do! Anyway, j'adore Henri.

  • je adore henri,

  • Brilliant!

  • This is different.. and good.

  • I can't stop watching this video! It's fabulous. It makes me think about that stupid Goethe "the sorrows of young werther!". Henri falls out of character sometimes though...

  • Wonderful! Formidable! Too, too clever. Fav & 5*s

  • Fabulous!

  • I loved it- so clever, well done and funny.

  • Henri is the cutest existentialist ever!

  • Brilliant.

  • Formidable!

  • Formidable!

  • Tres magnifique!!!!

  • Im a fan of Henry!! I love him... I feel his pain... Je` sui Bella, Je sui tre desolee

  • I demand more Henri adventures! That video really cracked me up but also made me feel sad, great job!

    But yeah...more Henri adventures! :D

  • I liked it, very sad

  • Well done. :)

  • Am gobsmacked. It's a work of art, this video.

  • Yes, a work of art!! And funny as hell too!

    Great work WillBraden...thanks!

  • LOL, Henri/ennui....I get it.

  • Very subdued and understated! Love it!

  • loved it thanks!

  • aw its cute it taught me a bit of french too

  • I feel your pain, Henri.

    ~Bacon

  • WHAT IS THIS ALL ABOUT?

  • haha nice. good music choice...what song is that?

  • Yeah Henri! MORE! MORE! Loved it!

(I miss my black and white cat who died at age 16)

  • I was going to point out that you might want to write at least SEMI-coherently while you call other people "retarded", but then I noticed that you are (supposedly) 24 years old, and somehow just got out of juvenile detention? Maybe it's you who is a little "slow", yeah?

  • Mon nom est Henri. Je suis un chat noir.

Awesome. The only possible way it could have been better is if Henri had smoked some cigarettes while drinking a few cups of coffee.

    Mon Dieu. Je suis perdu...

  • Love this video it is so very French.

  • My cat, Bunny, although a long furred white cat named after Luis Bunuel (the existential surrealist), approves of this film on fellow existentialist Henri, as would Bunuel. Check out "Exterminating Angel". The semi-out of focus black and white format is a nice touch.

  • Henri touches my soul, which is corrupted with existential angst. O, dolor! I have taken up Gauloises and carry around constantly my Simone de Beauvoir. My scarves are too hot but I wear them anyway. My beret is too tight. Dammit.

This man, Will Braden, he is always welcome in our humble chat-eau. Good, good work.

  • WTF?

but no really that was good, thanks

  • Brilliant! My cat loved this. And then she looked at me with disdain and pity.

  • Thank you for sharing Urartu1.

  • fuck Papyrus. Never use that font again.

  • your elegant and diplomatic argument has immediately persuaded me!

    (rolls eyes)

  • if you were a professional, you'd probably not think that swearing and insulting something out of the blue is an effective tool of persuasion.

you'd also know that simply because you, and lots of other designers, hate papyrus because of it's popularity, it is not "improper", as you wrote.

you're like the people writing about how the cat doesn't speak real French. get a life, will ya?

  • I don't get this video, what's it about?

  • It's about the ennui of Henri. Zoot alours...

  • I love it when professionals brag about their professionalism.

"I'm a PROFESSIONAL GRAPHIC DESIGNER AND EVERYONE CAN JUST KISS MY ASS WHEN IT COMES TO FONTING because I'm the only one that knows his shiat and the rest of you don't know dick! Die, Papyrus, die die die!!!"

Your commenters are killing me, Will. Not as much as your video did, though.

  • thanks for the kind words. yeah, you couldn't make some of these comments up if you tried. reminds me of a time when someone asked me for directions over the phone. I asked what street they were on, and they told me. I asked them what direction they were going, and without missing a beat, they said, "Straight." sigh...

  • WillBraden be very careful. wakaoh05 is not only a graphic designer, wakaoh05 is a professional graphic deigner and can use caps and exclamation marks. TOSSER ALERT!!!

thanks for your video mate. it made me smile.

  • Hell yeah... two opposable thumbs up for this frenchy chat and his poor spider friend.

  • bravo!

  • this video was amazing

    great composition

    dialogs

    and everything

    i loved it

  • Awesome. Satie was the perfect choice.

  • The ennui of Henri!

What a sad little kitty kat :D

  • what is that song? i cant remember

  • It's a great piece but you could push it further by finding a francophone to redo the voice-over. Props for attempting yourself, but it distracts from the film. Awesome concept! Please clean it up! I don't know if anyone else has mentioned it but you've been posted on Neatorama, congrats.

  • *cry*

  • aha, my wonder cat, Oopsie, felt no sorrow for the French cat's ennui. Oopsie had tuna for Thanksgiving.

  • this made my day. Tres magnifique!

  • was that a stunt spider?

  • no stunt spiders were harmed in the filming of Henri. only real ones...

  • ah, he shouldn't have been there in the first place...

  • You watch too much French cinema. You nailed it.

I read the subtitles with a French accent and it is even funnier.

  • Sorry I just realized their was audio to this. Even funnier.

  • Amazing =) Thats all I have to say..

  • utterly brilliant

    sweet

saw this on the 25 Smokin` Figurado MySpace page,of all places...

  • HAHAHA...I am grad student getting my masters in counseling and my Professor played this video for us the other day...the whole class was cracking up...absolutely made my day...Henri the cat with existential angst..brilliant!

  • Hilarious! Chat noir... a new film genre...

  • Mon dieux Henri avec ennui!!

    tres amusant

  • I just started at SFI this Fall. They showed us this video and I love it. So, did the rest of the class. Very well done!

  • and so is your engrish.

    Appauling is spelt APPALLING!

    twit!

  • Wow. You showed him. Twat.

  • "He" is actually my sister. Dont be a hero and mind your own business.

  • If you don't want public commentary, keep your business private.

  • brilliant, but the french is really quite appaulling. otherwise brilliantly funny
