  • Why is this the same psu as the xgx 1000w 80+ platinum? Anyone else notice?

  • @XxMrPiChUxX it is the same however i believe generally the xfx one is priced lower to maintain that perception this is the more premium product. correct me if i'm wrong but seasonic designed it and xfx put their own branding on it?

  • i keep looking at psu calculators and they come pretty close to the psu i want to get about 934 its a coolermaster 1000w gold psu i want a h80 in a haf x 942 case with a i5 2500k k and a 7970(overlclcoked xfx) thats not the problem though it actually pretty low at that stage but if i want to crossfire it goes up alot so should i just get the 1200w psu?

  • @crazychainsaw007 a quality 850 watt is enough. OCed 7970s are pretty much the same as 580 gtx. Even with the cpu OC'd a good 850 watt like an 850hx is enough.

  • Linus Arm Length should totally superseed the iPhone 4 thickness measurements as the new standard of the unboxing metric system.

  • love it You go :)

  • Hey computer nerds: Go stuff this up your asshole, then plug it in.

  • @1ElectroDan only if you lick it first babe

  • what kind of powersupply do i need for 3way SLI? using socket 2011.

  • Could you possibly do a review or unbox a Samsung 27" Widescreen 3D LED Monitor. Thanks

  • hi

  • why do ppl listen to this overpaid faggot

  • @TheJp707 because he is awesome? jealous douchebag go somewhere else..

  • @robbewuzhere

    get a life

  • @TheJp707 Sure you jealous douchebag :)

  • @TheJp707 Because he's the only guy on the Internet that presents you what you want to know in a non-commercial way, and he is entertaining

  • Unbelievable! This psu has a power factor of 1.00 at 50% & 100% load!

  • You never mention the price of the products you review. I take it platinum is big money? Is it worth paying over the odds for a bit of gold in a platinum product? That's ironic, isn't it?

  • Linus, can you, at some point in the future, do a basic PC building tutorial for us noobs?

  • @Ideeem @Ideeem

You try to sound cleaver when i try to make it sound simple wich is honestly fucking annoying.?! Yabbing on about the "defenition" of what phi is instead of talking about the real factors. You don't understand the scenario here because you measure the difference between effeciency and PFC by trying to involve the size of the earth in a measurement thats actually really simple and thats ur only problem. Im just trying to make it simple.

The ground was an example in hifi eqipment.

  • LOL the price is platinum too

  • keep that sticker on you finger

  • now hescaught workin atfuture shop unboxing new shipmends fraud

  • canada yaaaa

  • will this power an xbox 360

  • @e no..

  • now....can it power.....my PSP.....1000????

  • @MoneysakonPSN a 20 would power your psp....

  • i dont see the point of having the power cable modular.

  • @ItWasntMe456 having modular cable makes it more clean, not having to have all cables out at the same time, or also, you can put longer sizes of cable for better cable management, one bad cable? change it(i dont think it would happen, i think it would be a problem in the PSU its self, but it gives you a good option for testing and trouble shooting)

  • @5T34LTHcamoT4NK i was talking about the 24 pin power cable only. your'e always going to use that, so i dont see the point of making that modular.

  • Will this power up my geforce2 gts?

  • canada and japan use the same power

  • @TheProph7 i think i need a scientific calculator...

  • After 80+ Platinum comes 90+ efficiency!

  • Chuk noris is my dad. Dont beleve mi, i ginger, good in karate, kik pple, and smokey hot.

  • crap now my ax1200 looks like shit

  • Can someone explain to me why 1000w and 1200w are necessary? I have a Corsair 750w with an i5 2500k ocd to 4.5 and running 2 gtx 460s. I am pulling about 400-420w at full load while playing BF3 (the most power hungry game I own). I know this bcuz i own a killawatt p3. Technically I can run 2 gtx 580s in sli and be pulling around 600w full load. Is it because you done want to come close to the max???

  • @BASSxACE

If you're thinking of CF and SLI'ing High end cards and over clocking your cpu, 1000watt is very necessary.

  • @BASSxACE The Killawatt p3 looks at the voltage going into the power supply. The rating on the Power supply is for the output of the PS. The power going in is at 110-120 volts and the power going out is at 12-14 volts max. Without going into a page long explanation this means that the watts going in are different than the watts coming out. Watts = volts X Current . As voltage goes down current or amps goes up. So the watts that you PS draws isn't the same as the watts that it puts out.

  • 1 Linus Arm Length (LAL) = YAL^1 - X + (3.14*0)

where x is equal to the difference of your arm and Linus'

    YAL is your arm length

  • @yojgee who is Linus and how can I find my arm?

  • @yojgee YAL^1 - X + (3.14*0) would in theory be just be a single YAL. Therefore, your equation doesn't make much sense.

  • length*

  • lol at the linus arms lenght thing

  • WILL THIS RUN BATTLEFIELD 3?

  • @ivelocityi Yes, you wouldn't even need a video card, it's that good.

  • Linus Arm Lenght - official pc hardware metric system

  • taking it out and saying i'm gonna show you yet and removing it but wee all saw it

  • i bet that fan thingy is only included for all of the misinformed negative reviews and unnecessary rmas from people who think the fan is dead when it is just off to stay quiet

  • how long is linus arm ?

  • lol, one linus arm length XD

  • @Themousewins Linus arm lengths and arm spans as well as iphone thickness are the official measurement units

  • i may or may not have ruined my pants :D

  • gold is better for conductivity than silver and copper.

  • @observer2283

Actually silver is the best but they use gold anyways because it doesn't corrode as easily.

  • Does anyone know if there actually is a "Grandmaster" certified PSU or did I just get "Trolled"

  • @JustSayin24 its a joke, the rankings that guy is refering to is the different league ranks in Starcraft 2, Grandmasters are the top 200 players of their region

  • @siukingbon Ohhhh. well thank's for clearing that up with me :P

  • This is the best PSU and highest quality in the world! Thumbs up for that. I have yet to see their 1200W PSU!

  • 860 is kind of a random number.

I don't need more than 650, so maybe they'll come out with a lower wattage PSU in this lineup that I can pickup, but I can say that the old X series (X-650 which I own) has been one of the best power supplies on the market ever since its release.

I'm looking forward to the future with Platinum rated power supplies (but my budget isn't!). I am all about power savings!

PS: The camera focus did annoy me in this video. Needs work!

  • once again, that camera sux at close ups..

  • well in my country there is no way the fan could get itself off we have a cruel heat reach sometimes 47° C if you are without cooling you are a grilled meat

  • Cool, PSU its great for 3 GPU's...

  • I search around that there is a Titanium certification.

  • next will be Diamond seriers

  • there should be next "Titanium"...no?

  • This thing got 9.8 score in Jonnyguru review O_O

  • 24 hour service, and you showed me the number..... hmmmm

  • IF Bob Barker was still running the Price is Right , He would Definitely hire Linus, as a Alternative lifestyle hand model for the Show .

  • can you at least specify how long is one linus arm length?

  • okay there's a platinum one, but where are the diamond, master and grandmaster ones?

  • £224.38 JAW DROP...

  • @aschris87 Thats about 50 £ more than my NZXT HALE90.. Guess it's worth the money then.. Sure mine is.. :)

  • For anyone who hasn't bothered to look it up, to achieve an 80 Plus Platinum certification, a power supply must be able to achieve efficiencies as follows when drawing from a 115V source:

    Load: Efficiency Rating:

    20% 90%

    50% 92%

    100% 89%

For a 240V source, the values above are slightly different (90%, 94%, and 91% at 20% load, 50% load, and 100% load respectively).

  • @TheProph7 Could you explain why 230V got better efficiency while 115V got better PFC ? :)

  • @Ideeem one thing i know is that 230v requires half the ampers that 115v since V = R x i, so less ampers means less joule effect thus less energy wasted in heat. About the PFC i know nothing :]

  • @Ideeem PFC is only a theoretical way of measuring things.. Now in this case the powersupply might lock the components to suck power from the powercord with like 60 Hz to maintain a stabile level... Now in Denmark we have 230 V wich is more power - and 50 Hz.. So even tough it is more power it's with less frequency.... Now this means that the PSU have to suck more Amps in to maintain the same power level wich changes the factor a bit..

V x A = Watt.. While Hz is simply like how much per second.

  • @W0ND3RB0Y1 PFC is cosinus ϕ. cos ϕ = 1 means that current and voltage are in phase. Lot of ppl misconcept the power when it comes to alternative power. Actually the "Real power" P = V*A*cos ϕ. I guess lower frequency means the capacitors got more time to discharge themselves (between each period) and thus make the lowest voltage lower but I'm not sure. Still I cannot figure out why PFC and efficiency are not the same. I think I'm gonna ask my electronic teacher.

  • @Ideeem @W0ND3RB0Y1

You are talking about sinus.. Now sinus has nothing to do with the wattage directly.. Sinus is the curve/frequency,, Hz is the simple way to talk about frequency but sinus is an annoying factor to deal with.. When dealing with grounded computers and hifi equipment as an example you want sinus to be 0... This means that the curve is flat and there is no noise on analog or digital channels etc.

P = Watt and 0 sinus makes P/Watt constant... Thats why sinus should be 0..

  • @W0ND3RB0Y1 No you misunderstand me. The current and the voltage are curved but they don't reach their max, 0 or min at the same time. The difference of time is also an angle (as 2pi = 1 period) which is commonly called phi (φ). Now working with alternative current involves this angle turning the "Apparent Power (called S=U.I)" into 2 others powers. P=S.cosφ is the "Real Power" and Q=S.sinφ is the "Reactive Power". This has nothing to deal with the ground.

  • @W0ND3RB0Y1 Also the noise is very high frequencies inside the lower frequency. It appears like the signal is not "smooth".

  • @TheProph7 Nerd.

  • What is after platinum?

  • @yojimbo413l Diamond, Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald

  • it does not have switch to choose 115V or 230V ?

  • @Goliath002 No, the supplies can detect whether they are plugged into a 115V power source, or a 240V source nowadays. The manual switches are no longer necessary. Also helps because humans can't make the mistake of having the switch flipped to the wrong setting anymore and potentially blowing up the supply.

  • @TheProph7 did not know that I only have a generic power suply, im poor >_<

  • SAY-TUH? I've always said SAT-TUH.

  • @xifloatyourboatx Say serial A-T-A then you can't be wrong.

  • Do want!!!!

  • This guy has more technology than freddiew.

  • As awesome as these are (rather likely to get the 850W myself), most people are not going to even hit 80 plus efficiency that much. Why? PSUs are still horrible at really low draw and parts consume less and less when idle. For folders like me it doesnt matter much. And lets not forget how many people buy PSUs that can power the PC twice over.

  • your cameraman need an autofocus cam

  • PSU at 5:10

  • Oh, and not because of it's malleability, though that plays a part as well.

  • Actually Linus, silver isn't used over gold, even if more conductive, because of it's rate of oxidization. While gold barely oxidizes, silver goes black quite quickly. ;)

  • Linus SSD video about updating firmware is private....WTF

  • suggestion. focus a little on the amperage on the 12v + rail. It is one of the most important considerations when buying a psu.

  • 6:45 - 7:00

    challenge accepted.

  • Check your Nvidia control panel settings, make sure they are all on performance and application controlled. and update to the latest beta driver from geforce. and Metro 2033 is a very demanding game no matter how bad it looks.

  • Guys, could anyone here help? I just got my GTX 590 EVGA and tried to run metro 2033 maxed and it still stutters at 26-40 fps maxed @ 1920x1080 anyone know why the best card in the world can't run metro?

  • @SteveGaming Did you try downloading all of the latest drivers from nVidia? What are the other specs on your pc? I doubt anything is bottlenecking the system, but, just try downloading the latest drivers (also search in the beta drivers). Haha, and sorry the best video card is the Asus Mars 2 (two regularly clocked gtx580's) ;)

  • @kvabate Ok, 2nd best :) lol.

  • @SteveGaming either it's a driver issue, a bottleneck, or maybe the game is just that demanding at those settings. remember crysis 1 when it first came out?

  • @AznInTheGhetto Thanks for the reply, but it turns out it was a driver issue: I tried the BETA EVGA drivers and it now works perfectly 70fps :) YAY!

  • @SteveGaming lol, ur welcome :)

  • I have 3 channels of linus tech tips (I don't know why) with differents videos... oO

    Youtube bug?

  • wait, i thought they used gold to plate electrical connectors as gold does not oxidize, ensuring good conductivity

  • bronse-silver-gold-platnum

  • It has a fan switch because they get so many returns for the fan not spinning...

usually the fans not spinning cos the loads no high enough...

  • Awesome PSU and review! I have a Sea Sonic X-650 and wouldn't trade it for anything, well maybe this Platinum. :)

  • is platinum > then gold?

  • @feliS2012 Yes.

  • @feliS2012 yes

    platinum>gold

  • @feliS2012 yeah

  • @feliS2012 Yes

  • @feliS2012 Grandmasters > Masters > Diamond > Platinum > Gold > Silver > Bronze

    Gosh

  • @feliS2012 GOLD> Plantium

  • @feliS2012 yes, platinum is more efficient than gold

  • @feliS2012 lol yeah it should have platinum connectors instead of gold ones

  • @Venoml0rdz no it has to nothing with the connectors. I the transistor in the device. The tolerance are smaller making it more efficient.

  • @feliS2012 Yes

  • @feliS2012 obviously

  • @feliS2012 if wear going by starcraft the next power supplies will be diamond! :D

  • @feliS2012 Depend what are you trying to compare.

Price: Platinum is more expensive than Gold.

Electrical Conductivity: Gold is much more conductive in Electricity than Platinum.

    Price = Platinum > Gold :D

  • @feliS2012 yes it is

  • @feliS2012 Yeah.

  • @feliS2012 well its below gold the table of elements so ya...

  • @feliS2012 Yeah Platinum is a more valuable and precious metal than Gold!

  • @feliS2012 yes.

  • ok, but i have to open my desktop to change it to hybrid mode?

  • @aNoobyKill This isn't something you'd keep on switching on or off several times a week. To have the switch inside is the best idea.

  • Wow, just think of all the electricity I can now convert.

  • dont hate on the iphone comparison, everyone knows the size of an iphone so it works

  • @TheRabidWeasels and I thought everyone knew the size of an inch/centimetre...my bad

  • @TheRabidWeasels But how long is One Linus Arm?

  • linus is the best measurement

  • @TheMurkGaming Linus is a tool.

  • @crazyCA12 damn you, im not a moron and im 13 hmmmmmm

  • lol I forgot how to spell guarantee lol, did i get it right this time?

  • @StimmedRoach Sorry for the slow reply, i had to go help my mom... anyways no garuntee it will play above 30fps, but you can do more research on it lol... btw where do you live?

  • can anyone tell me if this would be enough to power an i7-3930k and 3 GTX580 3gb graphics cards with everything at stock speeds (just curious)

  • @Venoml0rdz probably, but i would go for a 1,2 or 1,5kw psu

  • @thehostler0 actually I would hook up my own power plant just to be sure...

  • @Venoml0rdz

    nope , 2 GTX 580 i think maximum.

try the eXtreme Power Supply Calculator from Outer Vision.

type "extreme psu caculator" on Google to find it.

then you can calculate yourself and try things

  • @Venoml0rdz I think you can, if everything is at stock, but this is cutting it a bit too close for comfort if you're doing stress test on both the GPUs and CPU.

  • 9:11 epic

  • Is platinum efficiency a new thing? I haven't heard of it until now... This would be a worthwhile investment though. I'm getting my Seasonic 650W gold PSU sometime this week upgrading from my 550W OCZ Fatal1ty PSU. Tons of juice for two video cards and a power hungry CPU
