  • In school before we graduate we are ask to choose one of the social issues of today, and i am just so proud to have finally found this video because actually almost the whole campus are against euthanasia.. and by the use of this video i can show that we really need a choice :')

  • we are kinder to animals we put them down when they are suffering..........

  • I can tell he's faking it

  • @nowfoundmichael You are an idiot.

  • I agree, that being on a machine to KEEP you alive, is not helpful, but at the same point if it is possible to be on a machine for a SHORT amount of time until healthy is just God's gift for us...

  • @BlueRaven1702

Medical technology does not come from God. It comes from scientists and people of the medical profession who work hard to bring these innovations to us. Thanks for slapping them in the face and giving credit to someone else. Jerk.

  • I caught just a snippet of the program the other night and I couldn't believe what I was seeing...this man's bravery, heart and love for his family was transparent. What he chose to do was not easy. He has a right to choose his own transition without the scrutiny of political agendas. May he be in the arms of the angels.

  • It is truly the hardest decision one or the families could ever make. Ultimately, when all and said is done, it should be the victim's final say (or next of kin if unable to make an informed decision on their own) as that is their body and only they can feel the awful pain they're going through.

To allow that person to let go, and be free, is one of the most loving acts a person can do for another, and an understanding the families' financial and emotional tax. Let them go peacefully instead o

  • Everybody should have the freedom to die, healthy or unhealthy

  • @yusufolokun

"Everybody should have the freedom to die, healthy or unhealthy"

agree, ppl's morality shouldn't dictated another's quality of life or death---if one wants a clean death and have the money to do it, i don't see a problem.

  • OMG! I have also watched this TV show last night, i am a grown up and could not stop crying, even today i still talk to my co-workers at work...It is so sad, but he chose what was best for him and his family... I am only upset with the fact that this is not yet allow on the USA, some states are, like 3 of them out of 51...Wake up America! why are we so late behind always... with everything, i.e: Gay marriages, Gay in the army, weed, blah, blah, blah! The list is endless...So sad!

  • I watched this on TV last night. I cried and cried. I feel that the point this man made was one of truth. Doctors play God with premature infants or traumatic brain injury patients after a horrific accident. Who is to tell this man he can not end his suffering and the suffering of his family. He is of sound mind. Like he said, he would be dead already if it wasn't for modern day medicine. I can't get him out of my mind.

  • May he rest in piece. Jedi, shut up, man. It was his life not yours. He chose to end it. He wanted to end his own suffering and prevent his family's suffering. You have no basis to question his logic.

  • This is so sad!! I and my family believe that God is a loving God and that if you ask to be forgiven He will forgive you for anything. I believe Mr. Ewert did ask for forgivness and that his soul is in heaven with the Lord!! My brother took his life 3 yrs. ago May 1 and I believe he asked for forgivness as well. May Mr. Ewert rest in peace and may his family find comfort with the Lord as I have knowing that one day they will be reunited in the Kingdom of Heaven!!

  • My father died of ALS it is a cruel and painful death. All US states should have this program when there is no hope.

  • @dougsgirl63

My tather died of ALS it is a cruel and painful death. All

US states should have this program when there is no

    hope.

My grandmother died of ALS and could not speak and

had no control of her body and died at 57 yr old I was

3 yr old when she died.

I am 54 with kidney failure I guess I am lucky it is only

kidney failure instead of something like ALS which is

    a lot worse.

  • @dougsgirl63 My tather died of ALS it is a cruel and painful death. All US states should have this program when there is no hope. • @dougsgirl63 whats so painful about it? jw i'm so confused

  • From the interview with his kids, it was evident that both his children loved him very much. I think it would have been better for them to be there holding his hand. Avoidance of reality only leads to more misery

  • Seen tv programs where some Brits have gone to Switzerland, too, for their thought.out plan of sucide.

  • I cried so hard after he swallowed the drugs and his wife kissed him and said "have a safe journey". it was like he was just going away on vacation or something. So sad :(

This was an excellent program by the way. Very informative and so human.

  • wow this is so sad!!

  • he makes some good points, however if this sort of thing is allowed there needs to be strict regulations. dispite his uneq situation and being able to rationaly make that decision. most of the people who commit suicide are depresed or have some other mintal problem. should we euthanise any distressed teen or buisnessman that just got laid off. what about people who just went through a big break up. it needs to first be determaind that thay are makeing that decision rationaly and not emotionaly.

  • They are very serious about who they approve for this. There has to be a doctor that says it's ok, usually they only do it for terminally ill people who are suffering greatly.

They even have to video record the person drinking the solution himself so that they will not have any legal problems. They are very organised.

  • The bottom line. It's his decision. Believe in God or not. It is HIS decision. He and his family has this enormous pain to deal with. Not another human on earth has any right to pass judgement. on his and his family's feelings about this.

    His decision ~

  • watched this last night, got to me at the end.

  • I hope he dies as soon as possible. The ill should be taken out of their misery. That man suffers from more than just ALS, he has further problems. i hope he is put to rest.

  • While his point sounds "brilliant", it's really not. The way he describes his options apply not just to him, but everyone. We ALL face suffering in one degree or another and then death. He's hardly alone. It's called being human.

What he was surgically omitting is that life takes place during suffering, and is still worth living, depending on what one values. Christopher Reeves didn't agree with Craig.

    "To live is to suffer."

    -Friedrich Nietzsche

He just didn't want to adapt short-term.

  • @TheJediCharles: Of course we all suffer. But this isn't about losing a job. Or being in debt. Or breaking a bone. This is about quality of life. This man's quality of life will ONLY get worse. And if he feels the need to end it, then that is his choice. Christopher Reeves didn't agree with Craig. So what's your point? It's easy for you to talk, but neither you nor I have any idea what he and his family have went through.

  • 1. You are making a grandiose assumption when claiming I have no idea what a family in such a situation is going through.

    2. When I presented Christopher Reeves, it was to point out that people who are in an equally desperate situation as Craig can still see the point in life. The point is that it's all about perspective, values and will.

    3. Instead of limiting your response to you, I, Christopher and Craig, have you a comment on the impact of normalizing, mass-processing suicide on society?

  • 4. Also, your attempt to trivialize my comprehension of suffering is only pointing out that you're not taking a broader look at open acceptance of suicide.

Your examples you cite as being limp reasons to kill one's self... people HAVE killed themselves over those matters. Are you prepared to defend them?

If you are, then you have a pretty weak value of life. If you're not, then you better take a closer look at accepting suicide at all, because this is where it leads; more pathetic reasons.

  • The man had ALS, he was suffering. He was going to die very shortly anyways.

  • The Jedi has spoken.

  • @TheJediCharles I have a hard time seeing past the fact you're comparing a cervical spine injury to ALS; I think thats a moronic argument. Also how can you even think for a second that his suffering is at all comparable to yours or anyone else's? Do you have ALS? Do you understand the level of suffering one experiences with such an illness? Let me make assisted suicide very simple for you; A person has the right to make decisions about their own body especially if they are terminally ill.

  • excellent point!!. They are such "caring" christians

  • God, what a program. Thank you! Such a brave man. My heart is crying for him. Bless you sir. Safe journey indeed. :-(

  • The poor guy is right. Screw the bible thumpers and any other fools who are stuck in belief traps and try to force it onto others.

  • Why do so many choose to deny God? Yes, technology is different today, and yes 50 years ago this man woudl be dead. But God allowed him to be alive today WITH the technology. I have seen the Lord do mighty miracles on death beds that boldly proclaims, He allows what He does to be glorified! Trust Him, and see Him glorified. Trust Him not... and die. One of the beauties of God is He gives US the choice. See John 9:1-7

  • If you believe in god or you don't it all boils down to one thing. It's HIS decision.... otherwise it wouldn't be called "FREE WILL".

Even though everyone has their own opinion I believe that he will do what he wants to do and he will face the outcome.

But if I "judge" him, then I'm no better myself.

  • The man has a right to take away suffering while he can make the decision rationally. There are nursing homes filled with living vegetables without a quality of life at all, and no way to make the same intelligent decision. The title means that he must go to Switzerland to ease his suffering. I did think that Oregon had a death with dignity law, but, it may be that there is less red tape in Switzerland.

  • The man is right. Why should he be forced to live like that when he doesn't want to? We extend lives in numerous ways, but, we don't do it with a proper quality of life. Our nursing homes are filled with "living vegetables", beyond the point of making any decision. This man has made his decision after a long period of intelligent thought. Pay him the honor of obeying his request.

  • I agree 110 %

  • i dont get the title

  • he's american and he's come to switzerland to suicide.

  • poor men the hardest decision of his life i feel for him

  • I see the bible thumpers are all over this, as expected. The man makes some very valid points, and has much to say, from the viewpoint of someone who is THERE, facing the inevitable. When you reach the bottom line, who is saying that who is playing God? This is a show I will very definitely watch, grim though the premise may be.

  • The issue isn't religion; that's a deflection.

The REAL issue is the inevitable results of increasing normalcy of suicide. The inevitable result is devaluing of life and the definition of suicide, and the inevitable slippery slope.

Why must a person be ill? Why can't one kill himself if they're just fed up? Why not "assist" those who were not conscious? Should children be allowed to? Why not assist someone who a board rules "should" die?

The problem isn't where we are. It's where it leads.

  • wow this is the saddest thing ever

  • sad...whats wrong with him?

  • A man with terminal illness, or one kept alive with machines should be given the choice, and his or her wishes should be respected.

  • 2:29 - 2:39; I'm confused with what he said here. The man believes suicide is the best solution to his dilemma; he will not inflict further suffering on himself and his family.

When he claims that only when we reduce people's suffering that we can't play god, does he mean that we aren't doing the right thing to ease what the patient believe is less of a suffering?

  • he's a wimp he aint gonna do it

  • He did it.

  • :( such a sad reality :(

  • There is a place for everything.

  • we are not playing God with thos babys.God gave us the gifts to invent the tube on your face thare for God still whunts you alive.

  • whunts.

    good word

  • It is so easy to make an opinion when we are not suffering the same situation. Sorry for being skeptical about god's discernment, but I think this kind of decision should be left to humans. Yet, I have to note that legalizing euthanasia could create a loophole that may lead to wrong decisions.

  • God is the 1 that gives life & God should be the 1 2 take it! When its your time 2 go the lord will come take you! no doctors can stop him!It goes against God 2 take life, we need 2 think of the after life! & stop being so selfish and vain! life is hard at times & we are born with free will 2 choose right from wrong, good or bad! maybe Im morbid but I would rather watch a loved 1 suffer & die a natural death then 2 kill them in vain! for what some might is think better 4 their loved 1 or 4 them!

  • @Mandy86lynn How do you know that God is not acting through a person who commits suicide when they are in pain. If a person is killed by a bacterial infection, does that mean that the bacteria are going to hell?

  • ouch, too much thinking

  • this is interesting. I am a nurse. I have to face pts that want that Morphine Drip which is actually prescribed to "control the Pain" . I was however, questioning it. Cause once the pain is undercontrol, we should not titrate the Morphine, which is a narcotic, b/c it will cause respiratory depression and eventually death to the patient. But you know, it makes me think...When that patient wants it titrated up to "control" the pain....Am I really controling the pain or causing death.

  • then how do you explain keeping people alive with treatment and technology. wasn't it "god" who gave them the illness. isent keeping them alive going againced "god"

  • Ya got my prayers brother.

  • Yeah, there's no black and white on this. This is what it means to be a human - we aren't bound by the laws of nature. We essentially operate in the worlds of good and evil constantly, and it's not easy to know where our actions will take us.

  • depressing :(

  • This is to painful to watch. My brother died the same way, can't be watching this crap all over again.

  • he makes a great point.
