OMG!! thank you for posting this!!! i am a huge lover of big band songs...and orchestras..and philharmonics..this band is off the chain!! and yes I'm black and young and I LOVE this song!!!!!!! always did...but hearing this beautiful band in the background is bringing tears to my ears...because they are crystal clear!!! sooooo beautiful!! thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!
Robin is a very good singer but singing this one an octave down doesn't work as he probably did a middle harmony on the original. I am not sure though why he would pick this one as there are plenty of other songs that work with him singing lead. But he was one of the writers of this song so why can't he do it if he wants to?
Grande canzone ma..Robin va per i 60 e si vede.., ma soprattutto la base musicale sembra una vera falegnameria che rovina tutto, per fortuna lui e` sempre bravo! Certo era piu` bello negli `80, Ciao Robin I always loved you Barry and Maurice
The Bee Gee sound was the harmony between the three. Without that harmony, it's just lacking, and it's just sad to hear just one lone voice. I miss them and I feel so sad for their loss of Maurice. and of course Andy, years back.
It was what it was, for a season, and the season is over. Lovely memories.
Yuck! I'm sorry he is NOT a good singer! I can uinderstand now why Barry always sang lead! Even Andy, God Rest his soul, would've done a better jOb! I love the
Bee Gees as a group and I have always been a fan, but this was painful to listen to. Sorry.
The guy is 61 years old, for God's sake! Do you think that Barry sings fine nowadays? Robin had the most unique voice of the three brothers, if you are a fan, you should know the examples.
@comtransbg ..I'm really not sure what age has to do with your ability to sing..(generally speaking of course)....If you can sing you can sing. Age is not a factor, at least it's not for Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Steve Perry, Daryl Hall, Tony Bennett,,,,,,and so on and so on,,,,,these artists are over 60 and above and CAN SING! Everyone is entitled to their opinion and so that is mine. Thank you for sharing yours. :)
@anatudes Robin has always been painful to listen to. He should've stayed at home and let Barry & Maurice be the BeeGees! He also dances like he's having a seizure on stage & is in no way attractive. He was very brave to stand next to Barry all those years. I suppose he helped write the songs, but all the parts of songs he soloed on were annoying & unnecessary. All he really ever did was interupt Barry's lead.
@wp1953 how dare you talk about such an artist this way!!!!Sure you don't know much about Robin Gibb to talk this way,so try to be fair and carry on discovering him!!!!
This is so sad not seeing Barry and Maurice, brings a tear to my eyes. Robin did good too, God Bless Bee Gees. If only I could live my life all over, I would but my life is coming to a closed chapter, all of us do.
What kills this song here, it is the back vocals, and the music too loud and heavy, that what kills it, of course, it won't be as the same as the original, like - Bee Gees harmonies in it, but over all, Robin is still sang very good with his own beautiful voice in this song.
Not quite as dynamic without Barry and Maurice, and Andy for that matter. Andy always had the best voice of ALL the Gibb's brothers. Sure, Barry has that strong falsetto voice, but Andy had the best voice overall. Robin needs help without the rest of his clan.
Robin is more comfortable on stage these days. His voice is still great. Love the different mix with or without Barry and Maurice. Love to see him interviewed. He was always the most quiet Bee Gee. He his smart, interesting and funny.
I think it's AWESOME to hear Robin stand out...I always wondered who was the beautiful voice in the background on this song LOV BARRY...YES. But what would Barry have been without the rest of the GEES? (Gibbs) I luv it!!! GO ROBIN
i think Robin does beautifully on his own. such a sweet melodic voice with or without accompaniment, in fact the less backup the better i say. stay well Robin and thanks for this upload
@sneezie2 - I totally agreed with you on this one, it is way too much voices of all those backing singers, it is all wrong blended, and made this song out of the line to a wrong path, it totally loss it sensational melody and vibrations, no matter how wonderful this song is, it just doesn't work like this, Robin is a very good singer, but he in this song, he was kind of loss a little I would say, even though, I am a big fan of him
@shmoeburger76 It annoys me how after the Bee Gees split he started singing everything in lower keys. I'm sure he can still hit those notes. Also he hardly ever uses his famous vibrato these days and in the last few years or so has adopted a completely different accent when he sings. Like you say...puzzling!
I believe the song is a good copy of one of the bee gees but like what other fans have been saying it's not like Barry was singing along side of him. I feel Barry makes a good part of the whole group.
answer to the comments below- Oh that's not true.. i like him so much and loved the way he sings, i loved him in all ways and like his voice very much.
Sorry, I disagree. Robin is good but does absolutely nothing for me without Barry. I have no desire to listen to him and I love the Bee Gees. Have followed them since the 70's. Liked them better than the Beatles but can't take Robin by himself. Sorry Robin, for my listening pleasure, you just don't have it without Barry.
@LukeShoveller He sucks even worse on this song and I didn't think that was possible!out of tune flat singing bitch! Damn if it wasn't for an orchestra and background singers this would be completely unbearable! I hope he refunded everyone's money for this shite! Can u imagine Saturday Night fever album being done with just robins vocals? They would have sold one album! Baby you and I can sell One, One!
With Robin's '70s falsetto, you could quite easily, in fact many of the leads Barry sang were double leads with Robin. (Fanny Be Tender, How Deep, Tradegy)
I love barry, I think he's great, Ithink Robin is great, I think Maurice is great, why are you being such a horrible person?
Robin is my favorite & this song is just great!!! I've seen the Bee Gees twice & shook hands with Maurice & I can say THEY are my favorite BAND od all time...
they are & always will be ONLY 1 great group!!! But don't get me wrong I luv ALL the great groups including...Beatles-Tommy James & Shondells & Stones & Herman's Hermits etc...Luv u Robin & THE BEE GEES!!! :) And ALL fans!!!
Sorry but the beatles and the bee gees aren't related in their music, both are awesome in their own way, and you can't say they are each other either australian or english. now if they were doing each others music then you could say that
I have attemped to reply to this comment 3 times but my connection failed each time!
Anyway, The Bee Gees and Beatles are massively related in terms of music, I suggest you listen to the first decade of thier catalogue to realise why those in the know often view them as successors to the Beatles.
The Bee Gees were one of the most unique bands in history, both vocally and with thier songwriting, but it is something you have to witness yourself, so have a listen to Horizontal, Odessa and First.
Robin is great, but without Barry who has always been the force and the heart and soul of the Bee Gee's is quite not the same, but not bad, there were awesome when they was all three together. One of my favorite groups of all time.
@rdgjun It's so strange you said it this way...Barry being the heart and soul of the Bee Gees, when HE said it was Maurice. I think the three of them together shared a heart and soul, and ithout the three of them together, that heart and soul is incomplete. I still love Robin and Barry, and if they were to release a new CD tomorrow, I'd buy it without a second thought of what it may sound like.
@rdgjun I agree with everything you say. Shows what a big hole needed filling with all the backing singers, without the Brothers there, Still, a great big band sound. The extra strings(Violins) made it more dramatic. B x
@rdgjun A very excellent point. Robin has an amazing voice, but look at what he has to do to make up for not having Barry. He has to have an entire orchestra.
By the mid 1970s Cheryl Gray had changed her name to Samantha Sang, (under the guidance of then manager Robert Stigwood) and had moved to the United States where she renewed her acquaintance with the Bee Gees. The Gibb brothers wrote another song for her, which coincided with their huge level of popularity, and the single "Emotion" (with back-up vocals by the Bee Gees) became a major hit worldwide. It reached number 3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1978, and earned her a platinum record.
When i say "overproduced', I mean far too many musicians, sounds, overdubs, background vocals, things going on around the stage, etc. You can hardly hear his voice... too much other nonsense going on around the vocal. An embarassment. I think this is Robin Gibb's lowpoint.
Its poorly mixed, the levels aren't right and certain instruments aren't low enoughi n the mix than they should be (like the drums) its more under produced than over produced.
Its not a lowpoint, just a mediocre performance; if you watch To Love Somebody from this same concert, you'd regard it as a high point; as its one of his best songs to sing solo.
Just search 'Robin Gibb - To Love Somebody' and you'll get that version and a deep, beautifully mixed version from last year.
Robin, please sing songs that fit to you and not songs that fit to the Bee Gees! Or sing singles that you sang. You have a beautiful voice and should show it too but it isn't being shown.
Well you have to remember it has been a long time since he sang this song with his Bee Gees group members. He is old now so as singers get older, their voice changes and it is harder to keep up. I also blame the background music that's making the song sound bad in this video.
RObin never sang this song with the Bee Gees, they recorded a version in 1994 that wasn't released until 2001, that was it.;)
Check the To Love Somebody performance for a perfect showcase of his voice. (and you are right, the background mix on this is dodgy, the lead vocal isn't pushed forward enough either, which would usually be done in mixing)
Barry and Robin sang lead on the 1994 version, they both sing it, he starts concerts with this because its a nice long intro, I fail to see how he's weird.
(obiettivamente :)
robin thought he's the man trying to sing this song lol.. leave the lead singing to barry, cause if you don't your just going to butcher great bee gee song...
He and Barry are filming a documentry this year, Robin did this little comeback tour in 2004, give him a break, he sounds great, other people like it, this was the song he left out of his live CD though, try my video from October.
He does choose songs he can perform well live, look at his set lists, he always starts concerts with Emotion.
His website has clips of Holiday and New York Mining Disaster from 2007, very, very good, if you're really interested.
I am seriously anoyed with the #$!#$%#% that mixed this show. Had it been mixed correctly, and Robin's voice would have been much better represented. Robing has always had an incredible voice, this was a disaster that could have been prevented; I hope that he fired every one involed with this show.
The bloody drums are way too loud and its really annoying because Robin sounds great, but you couldn't hear him, the lead vocal wasn't pushed forward properly, must have been a drunk engineer..
He's working, doing what he loves, and he does it brilliantly, come on, the majority of people who follow him everywhere will disagree with you.
Barry is performing on his in February and Robin should be allowed to as well, he sings beautifully, this is fine even though it doesn't suit him, but he does really well, he's got a brilliant record coming out for charity this winter, that vibrato is incredible as ever, some evidence here watch?v=Vz-2B5Kpqpg , what is wrong with that?
i know your not deaf, so please listen to him carefully and find it in your heart to judge his voice accordingly. if he was to perform in front of simon on american idol, robin will get shredded apart and you can take that to the bank. lol
Emotion doesn't suit his voice but he sings it very well considering it isn't his song at all.
He'd blast away judges on American Idol singing one of his, christ, go listen to some Bee Gees records now, and don't comment without doing that because you're showing ignorance and you'll realise you're mistake soon enough.
Start with I Started a Joke and 'And The Sun Will Shine', Love Never Dies and go on from there realising what you are missing.
Let's face it, Robin can hold a performance and a crowd solo. That in itself is something. We could be bias in our preferences especially where art is concerned. For me Robin is the best of the Bee Gees.
I think many people will disagree with Robin's voice being monotonous, although that Emotion isn't the best song for his type of singing, and he'll probably agree with that.
Considering this song was written for a woman I think Robin does it justice with the range, perhaps he could try a more vibratoish version to make it more exciting if you like.
But this was an encore performance I believe so I think we can let him off.:)
Let's be honest - even though I love many versions of this song Robin kind of destroyed this version. This song was written for the falsetto of Barry. The orchestra is incredible though. In fact it seems like the orchestra has the great energy ready to bust out but Robin with his monotonous voice just puts everyone to sleep.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I think a lot of people appreciate this version solely out of respect for him because he's a Bee Gee. If you listen to it closely though, with no biases, it would truly sound like a rich man's amateur karaoke night.
Be fair, if you think of Robin you don't think of the song Emotions, his voice is incredible and this song doesn't have any long notes that suit him in any way shape or form, yet magically, he sings it very well, and if there is someone who can do karaoke this well and softly needs a medal, no one can do an impression of Robin singing this and that is an achievement in itself.;)
This song wasn't released on CD and it was a bonus on the DVD so I'm sure he doesn't rate it as his personal favourite
Robin does have a great voice, but this is not his song, he is too harsh, it is a soft sounding ballad. When the Bee Gees decided who would sing lead on the songs they had written, they were usually right on the money.
the music is just too loud.. robin's the only one who's hearing his voice. it's like farting on a crowded place. but never the less, it's still a great show.
Can someone tell me who the blond back up singer is? Thanks

OMG THEY ARE ALL ENGLISH!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Bee Gees aren't the "Australian Beatles", The Beatles are "The English Bee Gees".

Robin is great, but without Barry who has always been the force and the heart and soul of the Bee Gee's is quite not the same, but not bad, there were awesome when they was all three together. One of my favorite groups of all time.
rdgjun 2 years ago 27
@rdgjun It's so strange you said it this way...Barry being the heart and soul of the Bee Gees, when HE said it was Maurice. I think the three of them together shared a heart and soul, and ithout the three of them together, that heart and soul is incomplete. I still love Robin and Barry, and if they were to release a new CD tomorrow, I'd buy it without a second thought of what it may sound like.
1Witchitait 1 year ago 12
@rdgjun I agree with everything you say. Shows what a big hole needed filling with all the backing singers, without the Brothers there, Still, a great big band sound. The extra strings(Violins) made it more dramatic. B x

@rdgjun A very excellent point. Robin has an amazing voice, but look at what he has to do to make up for not having Barry. He has to have an entire orchestra.

@rdgjun
Yes, genau so ist es.
I was in a Concert from him in 2010.
He is a Shadow from the Bee Gees, he is a great singer, but he is alone not "the Bee Gees".
Greatings from Germany.

Sort of an embarassment for an otherwise great singer... this is the single most OVERPRODUCED song i have ever heard.
fakerating 2 years ago 2
What version are you referring to when you say its overproduced? ;)
This song doesn't suit Robin's voice, thats right.
LukeShoveller 2 years ago
When i say "overproduced', I mean far too many musicians, sounds, overdubs, background vocals, things going on around the stage, etc. You can hardly hear his voice... too much other nonsense going on around the vocal. An embarassment. I think this is Robin Gibb's lowpoint.
fakerating 2 years ago

You have a beautiful voice and should show it too but it isn't being shown.
ohschakalaka 2 years ago
Not a bad performance, but I think Robin has a much better voice than he is showing here. And yet again the band is much too loud...

Just a very bad version.
johnchannetshow 2 years ago
Well you have to remember it has been a long time since he sang this song with his Bee Gees group members. He is old now so as singers get older, their voice changes and it is harder to keep up. I also blame the background music that's making the song sound bad in this video.
supertrouper 2 years ago

Why not pick songs he could actually perform well live???
mjr4064 3 years ago
Does Robin need money or something? This is awful. Man he misses Barry and Maurice.
mjr4064 3 years ago
Robin is minted.;)

BeeGeesJunkie 3 years ago
Exactly.
The bloody drums are way too loud and its really annoying because Robin sounds great, but you couldn't hear him, the lead vocal wasn't pushed forward properly, must have been a drunk engineer..

hunters11111 3 years ago
He's working, doing what he loves, and he does it brilliantly, come on, the majority of people who follow him everywhere will disagree with you.
Barry is performing on his in February and Robin should be allowed to as well, he sings beautifully, this is fine even though it doesn't suit him, but he does really well, he's got a brilliant record coming out for charity this winter, that vibrato is incredible as ever, some evidence here watch?v=Vz-2B5Kpqpg , what is wrong with that?
LukeShoveller 3 years ago
i know your not deaf, so please listen to him carefully and find it in your heart to judge his voice accordingly. if he was to perform in front of simon on american idol, robin will get shredded apart and you can take that to the bank. lol
hunters11111 3 years ago
Emotion doesn't suit his voice but he sings it very well considering it isn't his song at all.
He'd blast away judges on American Idol singing one of his, christ, go listen to some Bee Gees records now, and don't comment without doing that because you're showing ignorance and you'll realise you're mistake soon enough.
Start with I Started a Joke and 'And The Sun Will Shine', Love Never Dies and go on from there realising what you are missing.

Let's face it, Robin can hold a performance and a crowd solo. That in itself is something. We could be bias in our preferences especially where art is concerned. For me Robin is the best of the Bee Gees.

hannahrenz 3 years ago 3
Correction:although I agree that Emotion
LukeShoveller 3 years ago 2
I think many people will disagree with Robin's voice being monotonous, although that Emotion isn't the best song for his type of singing, and he'll probably agree with that.
Considering this song was written for a woman I think Robin does it justice with the range, perhaps he could try a more vibratoish version to make it more exciting if you like.
But this was an encore performance I believe so I think we can let him off.:)
LukeShoveller 3 years ago 3
Let's be honest - even though I love many versions of this song Robin kind of destroyed this version. This song was written for the falsetto of Barry. The orchestra is incredible though. In fact it seems like the orchestra has the great energy ready to bust out but Robin with his monotonous voice just puts everyone to sleep.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I think a lot of people appreciate this version solely out of respect for him because he's a Bee Gee. If you listen to it closely though, with no biases, it would truly sound like a rich man's amateur karaoke night.
jao8085 3 years ago
Be fair, if you think of Robin you don't think of the song Emotions, his voice is incredible and this song doesn't have any long notes that suit him in any way shape or form, yet magically, he sings it very well, and if there is someone who can do karaoke this well and softly needs a medal, no one can do an impression of Robin singing this and that is an achievement in itself.;)
This song wasn't released on CD and it was a bonus on the DVD so I'm sure he doesn't rate it as his personal favourite
LukeShoveller 3 years ago 3
I wish I could sing in a karaoke as good as robin does in this song :)

Robin does have a great voice, but this is not his song, he is too harsh, it is a soft sounding ballad. When the Bee Gees decided who would sing lead on the songs they had written, they were usually right on the money.
