  • i am only watching this because my teacher whats to instead of she building an assignment

  • what does RIA stand for? can't quite understand him :S

  • examples would have been good......

  • All well and good but WTF are you talking about?!

Have you considered who your audience might be?

Do you realize you're using ancient 2D tools to explain

concepts that are way beyond a simple whiteboard?

Anyone can write all those words on a whiteboard!

That doesn't mean that you've actually explained what they mean!

The hypocrisy of this video becomes apparent if you consider

what'd happen if this guy used the same method to

explain the complexities of the universe and quantum theory!

  • No videos! No software examples! No real-time action on a monitor!

People would fall asleep faster than the speed of light.

They'd be snoring their way into a blackhole!

And they'd drop your class the next morning!

How can you be talking about all this stuff (or the universe) and have

no real life examples to show us!

    DUH!

    You'd be a perfect university/college professor!

  • I had a mashup at my house last night.

  • not easy to understand what u are saying

  • his handwriting is awesome!

  • really a good intro of web 2.0

  • to everyonethat does not know what mashups are, they are 2 or more internet applications mashed together to make a new app, such as twitter mixed with google maps, this allows the user to see where in the world the tweets are coming from. Also there is friend finder app which uses your facebook friends list and incorporates it with the earth satellite program so you can see where your friends are in the world hope this helps :D

  • thanks......i did not understand shit.

  • This video was very useful, thanks.

  • what the hell are mashups

  • @StaticRequiem mashup is achieved when you integrate web services to your application. e.g. making use of twitter, facebook etc. functionalities through their API on your website.

  • Man...Mash ups are infamous...

  • web 2.0 is completely made up by social media idiots. it doesn't exist

  • @socialsatirist IF you were to compare websites like wordpress and other related blogs and social sites that allow commenting, rss feeds, etc....to what was available 10 years ago (static webpages with at most, a contact form lol), you could get what "web 2.0" is. It's simply a better way to present web content and allow interactivity and feedback and more functionality. This is what web 2.0 is.

  • Asian wives alone and try to chat her lushfmlk.info

  • Dude, I am still a green giant -_-

  • orange wall:)

  • Ummmmmm. What?

  • @My44445555 This is for web designers who know what he's talking about.

  • Amazing to see how dated the definition of web 2.0 has already become in just 4 short years.

  • Interesting concept. Web 2.0 did revolutionize the internet. I am sure that the internet hasn't peaked yet though. Web 2.0 is just the beginning.

  • Soooo....what is web 2.0?

  • What is Web 2.0? A Sea of Mediocrity without vision or purpose to an end, and all the passionate web guys, now follow the money grubbing bastards of Google et al.

  • Mash-What???

  • What again?????? he just explain d INTERNET ITSELT! wtf lol...and someone say its a GOOD VEDIO?! lol sory but his not explaining WEB 2.0..WEB 2.0 is a fcking MYTH! and LOL someone selling WEB 2.0 on the INTERNET.. I hope there not serious about this...

  • he didnt tell you about the censorship did he? the internet will be nothing more than a tv soon

  • Very informative and good content !!!

  • that's a good video on how to develop content for the Web 2.0

  • Check out my remake of the movie "28 weeks later"

It's awesome, you guys will love it. :D

  • I thought web 2.0 was just the internet covered in gloss...

    ...oh, the gloss, THE GLOOOOOSSSSSS

  • You can't explain a buzzword by using *other* buzzwords.

  • ok, from what i've learnt from various other sources, web2.0 is not the actual technology of the Internet itself, but the way in which people use it, for example, blogging, communication, etc... even wikipedia said that (while reading from wikipedia, i kept in mind that not all information from that site is correct, so i checked with other sites to make sure).

  • Comment removed

  • In web development, a mashup is a web page or application that uses or combines data or functionality from two or many more external sources to create a new service.

    #Source: Wikipedia

  • Really bad explanation.

  • This guy speaks funny. His voice is funny lol

  • That's ignorant. He's foreign -- give him a break. Lol...

  • What are mash ups?

  • wtf is mash-ups?!?!?!

  • Comment removed

  • For ******* sake, look it up!!!!!!

  • Why do there have to be so many acronyms in technology...

  • web 2.0 will be like China. they can spy on you, shut it off when they want to the cons of this are hidden behind a few new features that make 2.0 seem so great.

  • @bradMi80 What is the basis of your claims

  • I think that what really differentiates between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 is when websites rely heavily on user generated content. This is most successful when there are social networking elements involved because people are motivated by responses/social interactions with other users. YouTube's a good example of a web 2.0 website. Having a site that simply uses Flash or Ajax does not automatically make it web 2.0.

Web 2.0 companies always make use of a database for storing the user generated content

  • thanks...was an easy and quick and explanation...

  • baazwordssss...

  • I like it very much! It seems to me very slowly and clear!

  • The Internet changes every second... saying we're on version 2 is stupid. I suspect some journalist somewhere thought they were clever and things just went too far. Yeah, things are improving and evolving, and new stuff has come out, but to say "Oh, we've reached 2.0" is STUPID. It is ALWAYS changing.

  • don't get it

  • Phew, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that this explained nothing. lol

It sounds to me that Web 2.0 is a buzzword for a new style of applications. NOTHING seems changed or even added to the web INFRASTRUCTURE itself, just some of the information being transferred on it, which is confusing people and causing frustration. Does that sound about right? I'll need to see if I can find a better description of what this is, but it seems like a pretty dumb term so far.

  • Basically, it's just about the way the web technologies are used, and for what purpose. That's where the difference between Web 2.0 and Web 1.0 is.

I agree on that Web 2.0 is just a term to describe a new "era" of the web technologies, where it's more about the richer experience and user involvement. In a summary, that is how I see it.

  • Hey.

You still didn't tell me, congratulations.

  • Thank you. excelent

  • I really hate the RIA buzzword.

Some desktop applications today are actually internet-powered. Does that mean they are RIA because they are "Rich" Internet Applications? You will answer "no" because RIA runs on web browsers only. So why not call it "Rich Web Applications" or "Rich Browser Applications"? Hmmm more confusing.

  • Your internets are obsolete. We are all using Web 3.0. It's awesome and now includes rape!

  • hahaha best comment ever!

  • bekar

  • Web 2.0 is bullshit.

It's the same technology as before.

Hipsters trying to classifiy it by a different name.

  • actually web 2.0 is shows more development that when we first started off. web 1.0 gave us an internet with mostly static pages and the admin or developer was the only one that cud update content. Web 2.0 now gives us a more dynamic experience allowing registered users at home to update content at any time.

  • but it is 10 times easier

  • nice, simple description of web 2.0. your PHP is also nice, simple & powerful.

  • check out thesocialshopperdotcom

  • Good..

  • This is a good video

  • WTF is a mash-up??

  • Mashup (Remezcla) is a website that uses information in diferent formats to create a new service based in them. It uses Web services or Public API. There are diiferent types os mashup: photos, videos, maps, news... When u use a video from youtube or a map from googlemaps in order to create new info in other web, u r doing mashup. (Really stupid example)

    apologize my english!!!

  • Thank You.

I've know everything else in the video, but I've never heard of that one. However, the guy in the video says: "and everyone's heard of mash-ups!".

He must not get out much.

  • @okvideos5 so true.... so true, when he said "everyone has heard of mash-ups" I thought that I was a shame, I was like "thats pitiful that I don't know what mash-ups is" LOL, I didnt feel dum but I did feel low. lmbo

  • Thanks a lot. I appreciate having educational videos on this website, so thanks for the post.

  • hahaha, he is still at web 0.0.

it is funny seeing someone talking for the future, using a pen writing.

he cannot even use powerpoint !!!!

  • isn't the whiteboard for aesthetics? It's suppose to feel like a class room / college thing.

  • But I have to give credit to Mr. Bean for one thing: I didn't really understand what a "mash-up" was, or how it related to the fictional "Web 2.0" until I was it written in green, and underlined in dark green and pink. That crystallized everything for me. Thank you.

  • "What is Web 2.0?" Easy answer: it's nothing. It's the fucking internet. The notion that there is now a an entirely new, clearly delineated "Web 2.0" is pathetic masturbation. Please shut the fuck up. Thank you.

  • I believe that's the worst case of geekspeak I've ever heard. Hope it's not terminal.

  • Thanks for the video, but you still threw a lot of buzzwords there. I guess it's impossible for an IT guy to explain things in a simple language. Someone with no geek blood in hm/her should re-do this video.

  • good video, very informative.

  • Wrong...

The programmers have been the ENTIRE part... now we are sharing our power with you users... but only SHARING ... you are not the ENTIRE part.

  • "Our power" you make it sound like your special. Why would you program something without having a user? Unless your just referring to your blow-up doll 3.0 in your moms basement.

  • It is OUR POWER because people like myself have spent about 20 years of our lives learning to do very difficult technical work which allows us to do things that smart asses like you cant... and then share it with you.

  • Just so you know, This guy made PHP what it is today.

  • Just so you know, This guy loves markers. Look at him, he is holding like 4 of them :) He won't let them down because that would be inefficient to pick them back up later, plus he is very object-oriented. ahh, nevermind.

  • That told me fuck all.

  • I cannot believe how stupid things have gotten that a development of something called a 'wiki' or 'link tagging' becomes part of a term. What a freaking joke. They're services, nothing more, nothing less. Let's do not define any growth in technology with a bunch of nonsense. We don't have Life 1.0 and Life 2.0 do we?

  • rss high media .txt

  • Best explanation? Web 2.0 is a marketing term. Web 3.0 is a marketing term. These things to not define innovation or inventions in technology, but rather, an increase in particular applications of existing technology. For example, user-generated content sites, simplified searching, etc. It's a bullshit term unless you're in the business world, basically.

  • Nickel and dime the people that use the stuff for the profit of those that don't.

Innocence theorists still deny we live on a prison planet where you have to either work everyday of your life to pay the rent/property tax on the land or keep moving for fear of being thrown in prison for trespassing.

Food, air and water are no longer free. They have it all locked up in boxes and you need their fiat paper money to get any to survive.

    Slave world 2.0a

  • Yep man, that's good comment.

    Please, keep up commenting.

    I fully agree with Reality.

  • What is Web 2.0? A Frankenstein monster that will kill the net as you know it. Difference is this is a blessing for commercially viable sites only.

    All you need to know:

    Wikipedia

It was originally developed by Andi Gutmans and Zeev Suraski while they were students ... The name Zend is a combination of their forenames. Andi Gutmans (Hebrew: אנדי גוטמנס‎) is an Israeli programmer with Swiss roots, PHP developer and co-founder of Zend Technologies.

  • Another BS

  • web 2.0 is interactivity and usability

  • What is Web 2.0? Simple answer Web 2.0 means nothing. The Web is a collection of HTML websites. Web is not a technology. HTML, for example is, so it can be upgraded. The web cannot.

  • hey the dude below bob. haven't you heard... its not a new version. its just how things are done on the net today... its totally the EXPERIENCE. dude!

  • you sound like a scot, Im a scott!

  • you sound like a scott, Im a scott!

thanks for explaining how it works!

  • so what... their gonna remodel the internet?? this does not explain anything, it just tells you what is going to be in it, and that its going to put all kinds of stuff together. tell us how its different from the internet we use today not how alike they are. or maybe i just don't get it yet... wtv.. this video is unsatisfactory.

  • gay i hate it boaring

  • Good One, Thanks for posting.

  • i thought it is the glass-like and glossy buttons like the ones in facebook?

  • that was really interesting :)

lol..wow surprisingly got every bit of that :D

doing a communications course in uni helped ;P

  • like we need to know any of that to use the web just fine...

  • I thought Ajax was something my mom used to clean the kitchen sink when I was a kid?

  • Well, they thought that the web needed some cleaning too...

  • This is one of the best videos I've seen on Web 2.0. Thank you so much for this great great video.

  • this is very confusing

  • ARRRRGGGH....GEEK ALPHABET SOUP!

Lost me at the 5th - tria-alpha buzzphrase...

    grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr................

  • I think he is just kidding.

  • this has only confused the little i already new abt web 2.0

  • I understood...NOTHING...

  • WTF? Now I still don't know!

  • is ptcsearch dot com part of web 2.0??

  • no.

  • one must not think that v kno evrything....he must give a short description of the things concerned.

  • concise presentation! can someone write down in English the content of this video? (like subtitles...)

  • mashup is a web application that combines data from more than one source into a single integrated tool; an example is the use of cartographic data from Google Maps to add location information to real-estate data from Craigslist, thereby creating a new and distinct web service that was not originally provided by either source.

  • Yoyosmack, in one simple, concise paragraph, you explained it perfectly. I wasn't sure what a mash-up was, and still didn't know after watching this video. I saw your paragraph--and now I know. Thanks:)

  • BYTEmeCITY "Internet Education Award" nominee. Quality production, good sound, great script, excellent performance, Rated PG

  • he looks like mister bean in his junior years

  • Is Web 2.0 over? What's next?

  • An Internet world based on learning and the collective intelligence. I'm completely in love. This is what it should be about. We're all connected so why not share ideas with each other?

    Sheree

  • Wahahah he say's flickr which is dutch for retarded gay person

  • "retarded gay person" ???

  • I enjoyed the explanation, but I'd like to point out that not everyone has heard of "mash-ups". Nevertheless, very useful.

  • these are the smart guys who brought PHP for all of us. more than 50% of the web 2.0 (facebook, friendster, myspace) are developed in PHP. my own web apps & open source is based on PHP. i owe a lot to you guys. Thanks guys!

  • MYSPACE FULTONCOUNTY404

  • Web 2.0 is social networking unfortunately we have to take the bad along with the good. Web 2.0 is a tool that has the same impact for evil as it can have for GOOD. Twenty six (26) tiny soldiers, the alphabet can control the world through education. WORDS are the transfer of thoughts and ideas. SCARY thought..

  • I strongly recommend to ICT entrepreneurs to read these books

1- Crossing the chasm (Geoffrey Moore)

2- Blue Ocean Strategy(W.Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne)

    3- Red Ocean Strategy

4- Inside the Tornado (Geoffrey A. Moore)

5- Good to Great (Jim Collins)

6- Art of the Start (Guy Kawasaki)

7- Rules for Revolutionaries (Guy Kawasaki)

8- Made to Stick (Dan Heath & Chip Heath)

These are the books that we use in The Royal Institute of Technology/Stockholm

  • what is a mash - up?..... i feel so noob now lol

  • OK elf u said it, now just translate in english

  • Right, i have nooo clue whats he talking about. can somebody explain this in normal person terms and not use IT/HTML vocab? i would be very much appreciative. im sorry im new at this. XD

  • oh my god how quickly he prints!!

But its really a good web2.0 explanation

  • thanks

    now i know web 2.0

  • ...

  • thats really helpful. Thanks for sharing it.....

  • Ther have been a lot of negative comments on this post, and I didn't want the author to think that the rest of the world was equally unappreciative. This is a very good representation of the key concepts of what "Web 2.0" is.

A lot of people seem to get the impression that "Web 2.0" is another application or platform, but it's a concept of "the next phase of web design".

    Thanks for the great video!

  • so, basicly, it's just adding some functionalities that are related to the web interface

  • How come I heard of everything BUT a mash-up?

    LOL

  • I dont know but there have been quite a few very large "mash up" conferences from companies as large as Microsoft for software developers who have been working on these mash ups or whatever you want to call them.

  • u look like mr.beans from mr.bean's holiday yep

  • interesting.. thanks.

  • Didn't the "Buzz Word" Web 2.0 stem from virtual worlds like Second Life?

  • Web 2.0 doesn't exist, its just a mix of hyped technologies. You seriously need to work on your articulation.

  • Web 2.0 does exist. But it was implemented slowly hence people such as yourself didn't notice.

  • i would argue that delicious would be web 2.0 without ajax or ria, or web services support; or an iterative language or any of most of what he's saying; i'm sure people have said it - but it sounds like he's just trying to sell some programming language.

  • he's just trying to sell bleach using subliminal messages. first, he makes you sleepy "explaining" web 2.0, then you keep seeing Ajax written everywhere. wham.

    good try though.

  • AJAX will PWN your HTML and CSS N00B this site is written in AJAX

  • Riiiiiiiight. And normal people "own" nerds like you.

  • xD Rofl

  • Hi! I just wanted to let you know I've added your video to a group - Social Media Marketing. Please, feel free to join and add videos. socialmediamarketing is the group on here.

  • He's proven, if you underline certain words...they "must" be important and true. Especially if you look like the white guy from "hustle and flow".

  • but wait a minute.. mash-up, blogging and web2.0 ... arent these just buzz words that dumb people use to sound important? not that im accusing you of any thing... im fired arent I?

  • you are fried its web lingo for more conplex terms and acronyms AJAX is the future

  • Stop hating on this guy.He has made it big,and doesn't necessarily need you to phone to ask about Mash-ups to make a living.

Check out his company's website to see how big it is
