I know that death is a bad thing, but if your loved one was a Christian, he/she should be in Heaven. Everything dies eventually. It is just the way this life works. As for the animals, I always thought that because they lacked a soul, they automatically went to Heaven (or a heaven of their own) because they were unable to choose between Jesus or something else. After all, it does say in the Bible that in Heaven, "the lion lays down with the lamb". I don't know WHERE it says that, however...
