@nickjonaslvrxoxo baaahaahahahahahah ahhhh your credibility was killed so many times in that statement. first, youre clearly biased because you username is nick jonas lover. second, you think samantha barks is british. third, samantha barks is literally TEN TIMES the musical theatre performer nick jonas is. he was absolutely TERRIBLE!!! just go watch 25th anniversary concert. he is such a joke!!
Nick Jonas seems like he has a good little voice on him and that if he had some intensive training he could be up to standard. But hearing him with all these amazing singers just shows up the weakness in his voice at the minute. His voice is too pop star. Which is fine, cos thats what he is.... But I just wish they had let someone else play Marius in the 25th Anniversary concert. I think he was the weak link...
I think Nick was really good honestly,, the only person I didn't like in this version was Samantha Barks. She tried to hard to do the british accent, and her voice is just to harsh for the part, I'm not saying that she's a bad singer, because she's very talented, She just isn't right for Les Miserables.
@Cuppus94 Yes. That's not what I meant and I'm not bashing her because she's very talented.. what I'm saying is that she "over-pronounced" word's I guess. If you look at past version's of the play, they were much softer with their words and she's pretty harsh with how she say's them.
Here's a comment on the fantastic Killian! I saw him and some of this cast in London in September - it was so good the first time, I went back a few days later for more. Killian was an absolute knock-out, wonderful strong voice and stage presence, and he has a wonderful future in front of him. Only wish I could have seen him earlier in the year playing Valjean and Javert too! Jonathan Williams as Valjean was also fantastic - glad I saw him both nights instead of Simon Bowman.
Bowman will always be my Chris, so it's kinda weird hearing him as Valjean. Samantha kinda sounds like Rosalind from the 25th Anniversary Tour, but she's pretty good. Camilla is ok. Nick surprised. Killian Donnelly was amazing. Probably the only one who really really surprised me.
I'm not liking the lowness of this. I prefer Nick to Alistair Brammer, I was slightly horrified when I heard he was going to be playing Marius, but fair play he's doing a good job :) Killian sounds fantastic, I'm glad he's been promoted. The sooner Simon Bowman and Hans Peter Janssens leave, the better !!
Nick has way to weak of a voice in this. During when Emjorlas and Marius are going back and forth he sounds like a small little boy. He needs to grow up before he could play this role. Great Potential though just needs to really work on his voice before he could play it well
I was in my school performance of Les Mis and it is my favorite broadway musical....and when i heard Nick was going to play Marius i was thrilled! I thought it was going to be in NYC......which got me excited cause i'm like an hour away from there...but it was in london and that mad me sad...lol but he sounds like he did amazing :)
To be honest, when I found out Nick Jonas was playing Marius I was pretty annoyed. I mean, he hasn't proven he has any talent playing with The Jonas Brothers. And he lost any respect I had when I heard his comment on Bob Dylan. But after listening to this...he did better than I thought he would. He's definitely the most talented out of his brothers. But I'm still not a fan of him playing Marius. He needs to work on his emotion and being able to hold the notes. Other than that, he seems okay.
@MsMichelle103 I highly doubt it was a joke, and if it was, it was a terrible joke. I saw the interview...and he seemed pretty serious on what he said. Which what he said was a ridiculous thing to say, because Bob Dylan has lasted longer than The Jonas Brothers ever will.
@NinjaHaberdash Lea Salonga is playing Fantine at the concert. There's a big difference between the concert at the O2 concert in October and the original production that's playing in the West End. The current Fantine is Rebecca Seale.
I honestly don't even think Nick did as bad as some people are making it out to be. People are over reacting because he's a JONAS and got cast in Les Mis. I agree that his voice could use a little more work on but it's not THAT bad. Also we're only listening to some crappy audio of him. He could sound much better at thr actual theatre. And I heard he's been getting some good reviews anyways.
The contrast between Killian Donnelly and Nick Jonas is staggering, why has Jonas been cast for a bloody concert when he's completely outsung? Not sure how I feel about Samantha Barks, let's wait and see how that goes...
@LegsandJump Honestly, you sound pretty biased here. Think about it, Nick is only 17, he hasn't been in a musical in I think 7 years, and this was his first night. He was probably a nervous wreck. He's just a kid. And frankly, I think he sounds great. I was expecting anything like this. Listen to him singing "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables". I was shocked.
I do agree about Samantha. Right now, I'm just not loving her. She seems to shout... It's rather unappealing if you ask me.
@lesmisgirl90 I know he's young and I know he's nervous. I'm not blaming him! The problem is that at the concert, he is still going to be young, and given that it is the 25th Anniversary Concert of Les Mis at the 02 Arena, he better be nervous. And his voice just isn't trained enough. It's not his fault, but he can't hold his own against many of the cast. Therefore, it seems nonsensical to cast him for a concert. A concert is primarily about singing. That has nothing to do with bias.
@LegsandJump I see what you're saying, and I think his main problem is holding notes, which only takes practice. Hopefully by the time the concert comes around in October (?), he'll have improved on that. I apologize, your first comment did sound a little biased to me. But I do understand what you're saying though, but given that it's only June, he does have some time to improve his voice stamina before the concert. Personally, I'm not going to judge before I hear how he is in a few months.
@LegsandJump look at it from the perspective of who was going to sell tickets. he may not be the best but putting him in the concert brought in a whole new group of ppl to see les mis
i had no idea when he was singing! i had to look through the comments to see that he starts singing around :027 im impressed! its very hard to be able to do musical singing!
I'm no Jonas Brothers fan, but Nick does a really good job as does Camilla. Killian is a great Enjolras .. but sorry, Sam Barkes is pretty bad .. she's way too aggressive and her diction "clipped" .. listened to her "Little Fall Of Rain" and she sounded like she was telling Marius off rather than dying .. but perhaps she'll improve into the role
@karendiamond Sam was sooo amazing!! Blew me away!! You have to see the show to fully appreciate it, this video and the other ones just do not do her justice!
This isn't the best song Nick sang. He wasn't able to hold a lot of the notes long enough. His Empty Chairs at Empty Tables performance was surprisingly good though. He needs to work on his parts in One Day More a little bit more though.
Anyone saying they do not like the rest of the cast: I'd like to hear you sing these notes in full belt like these women are doing. They are all doing a phenomenal job.
@prettyprincess1307 he's still doing some pop stuff at the end of some notes, he's sometimes off tune when he sings with both Cosette and Enjolras... On the positive side I can say I thought it would me much worse...
Wish I couldve been in England to see this. Nick is exceeding my expectations of him and as a longtime Jonas fan, I couldn't be any prouder to call myself one. I'm quite impressed with Nick Jonas. I didn't expect him to sound anything like this. But I don't much care for this Eponine. Do you have any songs with Gavroche?
@lesmisgirl90 I agree! Nick is blowing all of my expectations away. A little more enunciations, though?
Anyway, Eponine is slightly grating. We know you're upset! You don't need to shout. Grief, personally, Eponine's grief would be much more powerful imo if she was more subdued.
I agree about Eponine. Her voice isn't that fantastic and she is too emotional. And you're right, she does shout a little! Personally, I loved Diana Kaarina and Lea Salonga as Eponine, and this one just doesn't do it for me...
