Macs still only exist because Micorsoft needs a competitor so it isn't hit with allegations of monopolizing and to avoid infringements on competition laws. Same reason why ten years ago Microsoft invested 150 million into Apple, and why Office was made for Apple. If Microsoft wanted to they could have been the only players in the market, but that is counter productive and dangerous.

Not entirely correct.. Microsoft used Apple G5's with a custom video card and custom OS as a development platform the the XBox 360. Apple didn't help very much with this project

Not only that, but Apple has a strong hold in the education and creative professionals market. Mac users are increasing consistently, and more and more programs are being designed for Mac. We even see games coming to Mac that never would have in the past, such as EVE Online.

Sure. That's a good thing. But then again, it will be an uphill battle for apple to expect users to switch sides and start from scratch again. There are too many unknowns for them to risk anything. MS may have bugs but there have been proven ways to go around them. With Apple, we don't know if we can even go around them once we encounter them. It is just not viable.

Windows is not the only thing available. Somewhere around 30 million or more home PC users are running Mac OS as their main operating system, and an unknown millions are running a version of Linux. With more and more people only running Windows "when they have to," we'll see (and are seeing) that number decrease proportionally as software is becoming less Windows-only. The only significant reason to use Windows (software) is quickly fading.

I use mine as my main operating system for all my needs: word processing, presentations, internet, movies, music, graphic work, mail, games (EVE Online, Halo), study software, P2P, Web design, and anything else. Viruses have been almost wholly absent from Macs since OS X because it's Unix at the core. Also, many of the websites you visit everyday were made on Macs, not to mention much of the graphics. Estimates are at around over 60% (at least).

I used extensively every version of Windows, save a mere short Vista experience. I was using Windows machines for over 10 years. After switching to Mac (OS X), I never looked back. I do everything on my Mac, and so does my wife. Many of my PC using friends love using my Mac, too.
