  • I don't speak Chinese, are they saying you should block the opponent's arm before sliding yours towards his neck? Or should you make it one smooth sliding move instead?

  • @paddotk It's a smooth motion meant to push the opponent of balance. Because of the stature and motion the defender is in; The punch would glance off the chest leaving them off balance just long enough to do such a technique.

  • @Soyouraracisthuh ok thx, but what i meant was, there is a moment where the arms cross each other. At that moment, does the defender make a blocking move, before he slides him arm to the opponent's neck, or is it one solid slide without a block?

  • @paddotk It's all one smooth move; If he stopped at that point to block said blow the momentum would be lost and the opponent would be able to collect themselves. I would imagine, They're showing that spot as a main focus of movement to throw the attacker off balance. Sort of a step by step how to; If you will.

  • Very much related to the style of karatedo Shorinjiryu, founder Kori Hisataka; as the style is more a culmination of the more efficient fighting / defensive systems. i.e. only a fool thinks he, they, their system is best.

  • Some techniques in aikido resemble this very much, since the roots of Jiu jutsu lies in Chinese Martial Marts.

  • @yegenek

Yep the baji quan technique wrapping snake and aikido technique iriminage are the same.

  • who the heck attack with a horse stance straight punch nowadays... it is either a jab punch or round house

  • @evilren008 If you aren't able to do the technique against a wide range of attacks, including jab and roundhouse, then you haven't learned it properly. When you study it the first time you study it against that type of attack (horse punch) because this is the type of attack they use in baji. After this, you need to do your homework and figure out how to apply it against any other attack. If you don't do this, you are studying dead and empty forms. I hope this answers your questions.

  • @Myhai01: I totally agree, and yet the majority of any kind of Gung Fu student wouldn't be able to apply this kind of technique against those methods due to the way this stuff is trained. Not saying it can't work, it's just that the tradition works against itself in that way.

  • @WarriorBoy if find that personally students sould spar more and learn persnall theory develpoment. if look at chinaboxer video on movement vs technique. he doe s a good job and showing that rather learn one move to address one situation learn to use the move to address a many situtations as possible.

  • @WarriorBoy from what i can see a great way to break it down for modern practioners. (when isee them actaully spar they look like a slap fest ) is to make it clear through modern classifications of martial arts taht thsi is a hybrid art focused on trapping bridgeing and grappling with undertones of striking rather than think it is a purely striking art(how hollywood depict it)

  • @kaindrg: That's a very good point. A lot of Gung Fu, Baji included, is very centered around the clinch fighting and trapping range, where a lot of real world fights can become very hard to handle. Taking the practical parts of Gung Fu when it comes to redirection of energy and dealing with aggression up close can be very valuable, especially for self-defense against untrained people and not ring-fighting. I've definitely used some good techniques in my own experience.

  • @WarriorBoy also the historiclal context. anything before teh Marquis Queenbury style boxing was similar even boxing at the time with its low figthing irish gaurd had an emphasis on trapping. the modern high gaurd pound for pound start after WW1 due to the fast pace nature of that new rule and the restriction of grappling elbowing and wearing of gloves. old bouts lasted up the 35 rounds or a whole day.

  • @WarriorBoy the clinch was relatively how most ppl fought before the use of jabbs and foot work invented by daniel " the jew" Mendoza. even teh greco roman fist fighting was semi clinch. teh reason is most likey all ppl learning martial arts were proabably going to use weapons. and whem weapons of 2 adversaries are pinned together u used shoves and grappling ie (german : kamphfringen, traditional jujitsu, )

  • @kaindrg: Good information.

  • @evilren008 actaully if u know how to ride a jab back to the torso like boxers this would work pretty well as a follow up. or just do palm strike while sticking to the guys hand since most ppl keep them either too close (like peek-a boo) or too far. too close allows u to push the guys fist in to his face or too far allow for u pass them.

  • I wish I could learn this. There are no baji/pigua schools where I'm from.

  • does a boxing boxer deliver a punch so slowly and so long and so low (and not aiming at the eye or head) so as to be thrown off balance by a baji person? i m not degrading baji, but i just ask !

  • @washingzoo1

Think about their legs instead of their punch then.

  • thankiu !

  • @washingzoo1 It's just a demo. You can obviously use this technique responding to whatever you want, not just a punch. The video shows the correct position of the backbone and the body.

  • @washingzoo1 actually, bai ji concentrates much of the training on the stance and foot work as it "borrows energy from the earth" (of course not literally) to increase the power when they attack or to upset the opponents balance. the positioning of the arms and legs are there so you are effectively stuck to the opponent most of the time. but then again, how effective this will be in real fights, hard to say

  • @MartinTofu merci beaucoup ! i learn something !

  • @washingzoo1

There's no need to wait for the punch. You can use this technique offensively. Just charge in and slam them. Instead of wrapping over the arm, better to just dodge the punch to the inside and slam straight into his torso with your footwork cutting of his feet from under him.

  • @washingzoo1 and would this be the only way to respond to any attack in baji. of course not, this is just one way to counter and is demonstrated here because it is flashy as well as intructive to the nature baji.

  • @juhizz94 thankiu ! i think i understand what u say.

  • Cool!
