well no matter how high they were they are not elite in the world of classic rock bands lol.....so cool he bloated up and died in 2 yrs OHHHHHH YEEAHHH the man
@me1513 according to the recent documentary film that aired on public television last Wednesday more than 80 million albums have sold since the Doors made the scene..........for Morrison death was just another form of consciousness as he fell under the philosophical grip of Nietzsche and The Birrth of Tragedy...
girl, we cant get much better. lol. did they get in trouble for that or what? i havent seen the movie. Do they explain what happens after he said higher?
The way Ray Manzarek tells it, the Ed Sullivan or his producer or whoever told the band they'd never do the Ed Sullivan Show ever again. According to Ray, Jim's response was, "We already DID the Ed Sullivan Show!".
The show's producers were freaking out behind the scenes when Jim shouted the word "Higher" according to the movie The Doors. Jim was gutsy and would never sell out!
I think at 2:06 Ray acctualy says "come on" real fast as if too keep the tension rising, but idk maybe he did say fuck, possible since Jim said higher and Ray realized that they indeed blew it. wouldn't doubt either possibilities.
he should have just got on stage play the song then let ray play the keyboard solo and keep saying higher higher higher higher while hes doin the keyboard solo
yeah Ed sullivan didnt want jim to say couldnt get much higher because he thought it refered to drugs he wanted him to say couldnt get much better which is stupid!you cant tell jim morrison what to do!
haha...@ 1:43 where did the English accent come from? When he says "if I were to say to you." He almost sounded like a Beatle there for a minute. haha. The great Jim Morrison ladies and gentlemen.
At 2:06 after one of Jim's "Tryin' to set the night on fireeeeeee;, you'll hear FUCK yelled and it's not Jim, as he's holding a note! Listen for it! Maybe Ray? Ray kind of looked disgusted when he sings with Jim (first camera pan on Ray's face. Robby smiled at Jim's "higher", but the camera pans on Ray and he looks pissed Jim said "higher". So, maybe at the end of the song, he realizes they blew it and yells fuck!?
@jcstriper Is that what is being said? I've heard and seen this many times over the years and never could figure out what was said. You might be right on the word and who said it.
Fantastic performance! The pose by Jim at 2:17 is just epic! There's just something magnetic about Morrison. The guy just exuded sex appeal! There will never be another like him but his music has made him an immortal.
It was likely the lousiest live version I've ever heard due to the time constraints the song is all over the place the solos are missing and frankly the music was equally as important as the words old Eddy tripped on them about. Anyway I thank you for sharing as that is what Rock 'n Roll is truly all about Right Man? If only eddy had smoked a joint once in his life he might have understood the amazing acts he featured as ell as censored(Dink!)
Jim Morrison was a beautiful possessed dark knight who came to this earth to unleash us from our captive selves (and explore our world to the full) ;)
si tuviera q decidir en mi destino por existir, no dudaria en abrirme camino a travez de las puertas y descubrir lo q realmente somos, infinitamente libres.
Legendary band and legendary performance. Fuck why can't music be like this today. It's a shame I have to go back 30 and 40 years to be wowed by music. There are exceptions today, don't get me wrong, but that's exactly what they are: exceptions. Most of "popular music" today is a joke.
@sccitylhh Agreed! now days most these 'artists' cant sing! its all about image and not talent and it makes me sick!!! The music that I know and love is long dead!
Did you know that the only way Ed Sullivan would let them perform was if they did not use the word "higher"? Jim Morrison agreed not to include "higher" in the song, but did anyway...........LOL.
I don't believe they ever played for Ed Sullivan after that.........
Yeah .. Jim wasn't supposed to say 'higher' .. unbelievable!.. but I remember the incident well, even though being a UK citizen and we didn't get this show in Britain, I saw it in Australia at the time.
Another similar piece of shit at the time concerning this show was that Gary Puckett wasn't allowed to sing 'the facts of life' line in 'Lady Willpower' .. he instead sang 'did no one ever tell you ...the WAY of life' .. anybody else remember this?
Awesome post & Awesome quality! Tho what I still find strange is that I downloaded this exact same version years ago from limewire and the 2nd verse was not cut out, unlike in this version......still wicked but that part is a mystery to me......
The Doors ROCK!!! & THX for all of your Beautiful poems, Jim!
amazing to me how far music has regressed. we've had so much inspiration and creative direction and the 90's and this decade have been a Wasteland of nothing The Doors were ancient yet futuristic. they were too great to be understood, and given all the schmaltz we've got now, they obviously still aren't...
@sebfynn I've seen these sort of trends happening on and off for over 40 years now... in the 60s when I was very young but into music, I remember thinking that the rock scene then would only get better.. then the 70s came and there was some good stuff, but also a whole bunch of a-holes got recognition for nothing .. the late 70s saw some innovation.. as did the early 80s .. and since then it's gone way downhill ..
@sebfynn dude look more closely the 90's had some some good stuff too like rage against the machine those guys were ahead of their time and still sound awesome to this day
@jasmace: You should have seen the look on Ed Sullivan's face when they cut to him a moment later. Back stage, someone said to Jim Morrison: "You'll never appear on this show again!" Jim's reply: "What do you mean? We just were."
Hand's down, the most unique band of their time, I'm also a Zep fan. But this band is so great. I can't even describe them,. they're just great. In fact, most unique band of all time.
The Doors only appearance on Ed Sullivan. The censors had warned Jim not to say the word Higher, but he did anyway and was banned from return performances.
they got askd to leave for saying higher cause sullivans kid said can you please change the lyrics but jim did not care insted he said after they got kicked out was who cares we just fucking played the ed sullivan show
I agree. He WAS a bit awkward and nervous during this performance. He kept getting tangled in the wire for the mike, and he hugged that mike stand for dear life. But he still put on a HELL of a performance.
yeah thats why he just put out the when you're strange documentary to show the real jim morrison and as he said "not the oliver stone box office ticket selling jim"
@denzellskater i vouch there expensive though all the ones ive seen are the realy loose biker ones ive looked all over for some more fitted ones i spose youd have to get them tailerd.
Ed Sullivan asked the band to take the word "higher" out of the performance because it suggested drug use. The band agreed, but Jim Morrison, obviously, used the word during the performance. After that Ed Sullivan told the band that they would never play on the Sullivan show ever again, to which Jim replied "We just did the Sullivan show."
Why the hell did The Stones get a better applause than The Doors? Is it because the teeny boppers were too afraid of this amazing band? Were The Doors too deep for them? Yes. We still haven't caught up to them. I can't even begin to imagine how they must have sounded in 1967!
@iggypoprhcp Why does others' taste in music bother you so? Why do you have to look down on people who appreciate RS more than the Doors? YOU know what YOU like, so just enjoy the music.
i like how he said higher on tv he wasnt saposed to do ed sulivan said he would never play on the show agin and jim said why in the hell would i want to play this show agin. praise the lizard king forever!!
I heard a story that Jim Morrison was asked by the producers to not use the word HIGHER while doing this performance because it was too suggestive, and he agreed and when he went on stage, he did what he wanted to do anyway. LOL Way to go Jim. Just wondering if there was any truth to this story
@appleandhoneyspice ...Ed Sullivan ruled the t.v. back then and ruined a lot of promising careers. Jackie Mason was one of them. Jim Morrison stuck to his guns and didn't let anyone interfere with his artistry. Good for him in that aspect
@Marvcohen Yes there was truth to this. I watched The Doors on Sullivan that night. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the way they did that song. Jim was a rebel, and a rabble rouser. Sorry! My spell checker doesn't want to work on this site. Jim must be trying to tell me something. Jim, I love you dear! You did the song your way, and that was the right way!
@SweetSue4 That's what made Jim a true artist. He was true to his material to the end. If you didn't like his music, there are still millions of others that still do
@Marvcohen I had some of The Doors records when they were in their hay day. At that time, there wer other bands that I liked better. I was (And still into) The DC5, Herman's Hermits, among others. But over the yrs, I have realised that Jim was a very talented person.
@Marvcohen Total truth. that was not made up. he was very drunk that nite (you can tell by how he was walking), so he probably thought the producers were taking him to a party.
i made the doors logo as a paint sticker on Forza Motorsport 3..... if you want it search the doors logo or bhouse62...... NOTE: I had a little trouble with the "R" so it looks funny
I like the way Ray uses the keyboard as both percussion and melody in this song. Cool version.

lmfao, look at Rob's face after jim says "higher"
rockenspike2005 1 year ago

I heard a story that Jim Morrison was asked by the producers to not use the word HIGHER while doing this performance because it was too suggestive, and he agreed and when he went on stage, he did what he wanted to do anyway. LOL Way to go Jim. Just wondering if there was any truth to this story

@Marvcohen he did this was the last time the doors were on ed sullivan, he put it too him the times were differant but he stuck it too all of them.

@appleandhoneyspice ...Ed Sullivan ruled the t.v. back then and ruined a lot of promising careers. Jackie Mason was one of them. Jim Morrison stuck to his guns and didn't let anyone interfere with his artistry. Good for him in that aspect
Marvcohen 1 year ago
@Marvcohen Yes there was truth to this. I watched The Doors on Sullivan that night. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the way they did that song. Jim was a rebel, and a rabble rouser. Sorry! My spell checker doesn't want to work on this site. Jim must be trying to tell me something. Jim, I love you dear! You did the song your way, and that was the right way!
SweetSue4 1 year ago
@SweetSue4 That's what made Jim a true artist. He was true to his material to the end. If you didn't like his music, there are still millions of others that still do
I know I'm a fan

@Marvcohen I had some of The Doors records when they were in their hay day. At that time, there wer other bands that I liked better. I was (And still into) The DC5, Herman's Hermits, among others. But over the yrs, I have realised that Jim was a very talented person.

@Marvcohen Total truth. that was not made up. he was very drunk that nite (you can tell by how he was walking), so he probably thought the producers were taking him to a party.
