  • SHE rules the world?

  • Is this from a TV appearance? I've never seen this clip. Thanks for posting, I love the Roches Christmas album!

  • can you upload the song "We Three Kings"

  • Of all the records that I have, more that 3,000, The ROCHES Christmas is my favorite.

Three girls A CAPELA, they sound better that a full orchestra they are just Too much

  • I remember seeing the Roches do this piece on the Johnny Carson Show I think quite a few years before this performance. It knocked my socks off to see these teenage girls throw their heads back and belt it out. I saw them perform live last year and they're still good.

  • yep .."we three kings" is a longtime favorite.. rats! i have the cd packed away somewhere.

  • Great voice

  • They are just so fabulous--this is one of my favorite Christmas CDs.

  • Who needs music when the singing is this beautiful? Not just beautiful - full of the spirit of Christmas, a reminder of the Lord's gifts to us.

  • another Christmas passing through..

  • My all-time favorite Christmas album. I listen to it all-year round. Find their original song, "Star of Wonder" - it is incredible.

  • @bakayaroonna8 - Mine too. Since it was first released, it's my favorite of all my Christmas CD's. . I play it for days on end from November to January! So glad to see vids of them here.

  • @sunnygrl

Agreed! Ever since I was introduced to their Christmas album back in the early '90s, it's been my absolute favorite. Gorgeous!

  • I was looking for something to get me into the Christmas spirit..... this did it!

  • I heard it on the radio one winter night while driving home through a snowstorm....it picked me up right on the spot.

The tempo is great for driving. And great for everything else too.

Best new version of a great old song I know.

  • Will someone upload these guys doing Good King Wenceslaus from the We Three Kings CD?

    I can't get it now.

  • I would LOVE for that to be uploaded here too! I just adore that song!

  • @wqpeb - I am about to upload it...

  • Theirs is my favourite music album ever. I can't believe it's just three voices. I saw Suzzy's daughter Lucy perform this summer, she was amazing, her voice is that clear fabulous sound of her foremothers.

  • Very distinct, unmistakable voices. A pretty sound. Merry Christmas Eve 2008

  • Love to you guys!

  • Love it

  • wow this is so cool, cant wait to see their show tonight. :)

  • Their voices blend so beautifully!! Wonderful!

  • I think it's really pathetic, for crying out loud, if someone is so insecure they can't deal with the fact that Jesus was a man, and therefore a HE. Deal, already.

  • @agirlforbryn projecting a bit, are we?

  • love the roches

  • Does anyone know where this video is originally from? Was this a tv show?

  • I love this christmas album. It's one my faves and shows just how good their chops really are.

  • Actually, the whole question is based on the assumption that the song is referring to God, and God does not have gender. However, the song is actually talking about Jesus Christ ruling in his capacity as the future king of the world ("let earth receive her king"). And I think even the Roches would agree that Jesus is a man, not a woman.

But enough theology - I love the Roches' awesome harmonies!

  • I think it's actually "Chi rules the world".

  • great, right up until they sang "she rules the world." rubbish.

  • geokaplan:

Oh yeah. We all know that God MUST be a bearded white male who lives in the clouds wearing a toga.

Thanks for setting those heathen Roches straight!

(And I'll bet you'd take "God-fearing" as a compliment. Probably scares the crap out of you.)

As for me, if angels exist and sing, I'd bet they would sound like the Roches and would be unoffended by the "she."

  • "For in HIM dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." - Colossians 2:9

  • Well now. Once again you have bested us heathens with your superior knowledge of God. Thank you so very much.

Now go vote for Bush again. God speaks to him PERSONALLY.

  • Actually, the problem in English is that "He" can include femenine and neuter. But "She" can only mean feminine. So, if the Roches meant that Jesus is a woman (not historically acurate, but that is beside the point) it would have been acceptable to use He or She. (Similar to when Elizabeth I called herself a prince, not a princess.) But if the Roches wanted to say Jesus sex was unimportant they should have used "He" for the simple reason that "He" can include everyone, whereas "She" can not.

  • dork

  • Does God have a gender? The painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel not withstanding, we really have no way of knowing the gender of God.

Some may claim they know but honestly, considering that every ancient source you can cite as evidence of God's gender was written by a man and therefore written with a male bias, who can really know for sure.

  • If we speakers of English had a more complete set of choices for pronouns, we would not be having this conversation. If some women, or for that matter, men, wish to refer to God in the female gender what harm does it truly do?

  • Arguing that using he, his, him is technically inclusive of both genders is pointless since the vast majority of English speakers were never taught in school such etymological subtleties.

  • Besides, English is a fluid and flexible language which grows in richness and breadth daily due more to the common speakers of the language than to English professors and the otherwise well educated. It would certainly do no real harm to refer to a gender neutral entity as either he or she. Perhaps the solution is to coin a new word which encompasses both yet neither gender, something less offensive than "it."

  • its only fluid and flexible when " english people use it! god knows what language "yanks" speak! lol.

  • I propose "e." Remove the "h" from he or the "sh" from she and you get "e." This resolves third person Subjective. I am at a loss for third person objective or possessive.

Anyone care to second my motion?

  • The problem with using "e" is that we'd all sound like Cockneys. 'E rules the world, 'e does!

  • oh I know and I thought about that. but my point was not to reshape the language but to get people to think about how they can find better ways to use language. And perhaps inspire someone to come up with a better idea.

  • Now that's what I call Christmas music

    All the best for 2008

  • these ladies sing like angels,they played here(chicago)last week,unfortunatly missed em,darn X mas party!!!

  • I wasn't feeling much Christmas spirit until I saw this clip. Thanks for the inspiration of such beautiful music & voices. The Roches performance is filled with spirit & grace that touches the listner.A merry Christmas to all!

  • One of my favorite Christmas albums ever!

  • Sheer Beauty. Priceless. Thanks a million for posting.

  • My favorite Christmas album. I even play it in July. Such lovely voices.
