step 1 find hammer 2 beat it with hamer untill satisfied and there is the sound of broken platter ratiiing inside. (if wanted toss in fier then toss down a old well and fill with concreat lol)
Lot of effort there. Lets keep it simple. Step 1 remove hard drive. Step 2 pick up large axe or sledge hammer. Step 3 Destroy. Step 4 throw the disc in the fire.
Its the only way to protect old data...whenever you buy a new hdd you need to destroy the old platters if you wont be using the old disc, otherwise someone, somewhere could get the data off them, no matter how many times you shred or secure overwrite.
anyone know how to open the older seagate drives with the rubber insulation/dampener? i removed all the torx screws but the thing is still shut tight. wtf!?

It's alot easier, faster and more fun to stick it in a ceramic pot filled with thermite, then light it.
Zurgalon 6 months ago
A hammer works just fine. You are supposed to render the platters unspinnable and damage the connection area. No gloves??

i destroy my hard drives by wrapping them in 3kgs of explosives, hmm not much left after that
Zzub7 10 months ago
WHERE did you surf, since it needs that kind of shredding???

where is the "Destroy"????...stupid
Lux0rNT 3 years ago
I would suggest a drill press, but a Dremel works I guess...
infantryhawk 3 years ago
prolly would have been easier on your dremel to cut a slot in each one and use a flathead
nafango22 3 years ago
Isn't it hust so much easier on your ears to go buy a set of Torx screws?
Even in Australia it easy to find a set.
Tarzbloke 3 years ago 2
The screws on the drive were miniature star bits, and rather than spend money it was more cinematic to dremel it.
chaostheoryfilms 3 years ago
Yeah spose so.
Ingenuity +1
Tarzbloke 3 years ago
where do you get torx in australia? btw i managed to open mine using a flata head that fit perfectly
Krisspychiken 3 years ago
Yeah I tried that too. A very small flat head sometimes works.
I got my torx bits from the local hardware store. They were the 1cm or so long bits that attach to a those "kit-style" magnetic screwdrivers.
Tarzbloke 3 years ago
e so desaparafusar
derewerhgfuytd 3 years ago
Or you know you could just get some torx bits for your drill driver at Home Depot.
