the greatest of them all?jez.why there always has to be an argue about that matter.i guess, roger is right there with him,on the top.and novak is still young,we`ll see what his legacy will be after his pro-tennis time.i loved seeing pete playing.andre was the emotional one,the emphatic one.pete was perfection in every aspect of the game.is he the best ever?maybe.why just embrace him,for what he is:a great human being, with a great gift.in sports is only one"greatest":mj.he defined basketball new.
Paul Annacone is trying to pass on his sage wisdom to Federer and make Federer play how Sampras did. Sorry Fed, never going to happen. This is an admirable speech and the emotions pouring out is what Sampras tried to repress.. its amazing to watch.
@jaitock1991 You're telling me Federers hasn't changed his game (more aggressive) since Paul became his coach? It's not working for him because he cant execute Paul's ethos to his pupils as good as Pete did. Go unsubscribe and shut up.. if you say I'm as far from being correct, prove me otherwise.
Haha. Listen. Being more agressive is one thing. But rushing to the net about every time you get an opportunity to is a completely different thing. Let's use last year's tourney at 02 in London as an example. Fed played increadibly well, and what he mainly did was to play really aggressive tennis FROM THE BASELINE, taking the ball extremely early, hitting a lot of winners. Go watch the highlights from his final against Nadal, and try telling me that's how Pete would have played..
A player cries for his coach not getting the credit he deserves. That shows what Pete is all about. Greatness, humble, a man of principles. He is just the best till date for me and so many millions acroos the world. I just love not only tennis, just how he carries himself in his victories and defeats.. The greatest ever for me.
That was an amazing speech, full of emotion. About half way through when he told his wife he loved her I choked up pretty bad. What an amazing tennis player Pete was (and is for sure).
@nouw23 6 year straight number 1 record. 286 weeks number 1 record, federer stuck on 285. 14 slams best player of his generation he faced them all lendl, wilander, mcenroe, edberg, becker, chang, courier, agassi, rafter, etc. he was the best of his time. sampras had all the weapons the only player to win slams in his teens, 20's and 30's and if ever wanted to make a comback he can win a slam in his 40's.
@themios72, why the need for the comparison? As far as great human beings go, one could argue that Sampras could never match Agassi. Let's face it, off the tennis court, Pete has NEVER done the kind of philanthropic work as Agassi has. Not even close. Agassi has helped many, many children with his school and his donations for almost 20 years now. THAT is a great human being!
How about this for a speech, it tells a lot about what kind of a person Pete Sampras is, the emotions were too great to control there as he had to point out the role that his parents, coaches, his wife and all the fans had played in the whole story. He cried a lot of tears and we could cry with him, therefore it is a privilege to be a fan of him. I identify myself with him especially in his humility, he was not as much a sports champ made of steel, he was much more a human being full of emotions
I agree with you 100%. There is no-one greater than God. Good on you, preach to these lost souls. You're one of the first sane person on you tube that watches tennis.
Sampras is the GREATEST tennis player of all time.......and dont be telling me Federer is because he's a weak faggot !!
Besides.......Pete got a really hot wife! Look at Federer's wife -- she's ugly as sin......no wonder Roger wants to play tennis all the time......who wants to snuggle up to that ugly skank!
Greatest ever, this guy named Pete Sampras. I grew up watching him and he was always such a humble champion, not needing flash to enhance his game. Love you and amazing speech!!
pete sampras was and it will be the greatstest of all tennis player not for his 14 titles os grand slams if not becouse he retires becouse there's no more challenge for him when he reach is 14 titles he thinks that was enoughf but if he listen about the danger about roger federer hi never been retired and he still be a number 1
i feel for this champion, he is the best tennis player of all time, and even if federer or nadal or murray passes his 14 grand slam record, pistol pete will always be a generous sportsman, and i feel his emotions too.....touching hall of fame for pete sampras.
Pete or Rod Laver are the best ever. John Mcenroe is also up there. They had serve and volley plus groundies. Federer and all the players now are strictly baseliner. That does not make for exciting tennis, especially on grass. finally, people are starting to think about the loss of the attacking game.
@spjfrat Come on man, Federer is an exciting player you've got to give him that. He does much more than sit at the baseline. I'll admit he does it a LOT more than those you mentioned, but I think he's played his fair share of exciting tennis that's all. Peace.
I cant say Pete is the greatest tennis player of all time as he did not win The French Open like Rod Laver who has won the Grand Slam on 2 occasions. But the fact is he has most major titles(14 in all) and I believe Pete was definitely the best ever serve and volleyer in tennis history.Anyone does not agree?
Pete Sampras is a tennis legend, but he also is an example of a great, great person, and as he said in his speech, he kept his values, his authenticity, his seriousness and humble approach, withstanding the "danger" of appearing as a "boring" player, through all his incredible career. I appreciate him today more than ever. Saying thanks to all his loved ones in his hall of fame speech, with tears in his eyes... wow.

@themios72 And sampras can never match agassi, because they are both great players.
They have given so much for the game of tennis. All that we can do, is respect that.
