I am from America and can understand it fine. If I showed this video to my mother though, she would fail to understand most of it, I am sure. She is horrible at understanding any thing other than thick Midwest American English.
I'm not quite sure what you mean. I find the words quite easy to understand, if that's what you mean by "what are the words, where are the consonants." They don't roll their rs like other English boys, but their consonants are audible nonetheless.
The Libera boys have quite broad English "Saaf (South) London" accents that they retain somewhat whilst singing...it might be difficult to understand if one is not used to hearing it. Even though I'm an American, I watch a lot of British TV and lived in London for a short while, so they're completely clear and understandable to me.
@paracletelux Very true. A number of non-Brits often have trouble attenuating their hearing to English (and similar) accents. What many Americans, in particular those with flat mid-western accents, don't register is the pitching and blending in many Brit-accents; funnily enough, part of the flattened mid-western (and related) accents in the U.S. apply an inverse effect (in the flattening/blurring of vowels) that mirrors the perceived dropping/blurring of many "Brit-consonants"...
I haven't seen this video for years. I seem to remember being incredibly cold and wet as they filmed the raining scene with a sodding great hose and soaked us all. Brought back some memories!!
Thanks for being a part of a beautiful song. And for being in something that has blossomed & grown to fill the hearts & souls of millions of people around the world. God Bless you.
This song brings back so many good memories of my great grandparents, the song is so beautiful the title rightly says "Voice of Angels" as thats what it is. I don't think words can describe how beautiful the song is until you have heard it.

The choir used to be called Angel Voices from St Phillips Church in Norbury...i grew up with them as my brother was actually in the choir! This was my absolute favourite song of theirs and used to watch them in church mid 90s.

The choir is Libera, although at the time they were called Angel Voices!! I don't know what album this is on, but it was about 16 years ago and I don't know if the album is available anymore, as many of their early albums are not!! Libera does have an album that was realized in March though called "New Dawn" and if you search Libera New Dawn Promo on YouTube their promo for the CD will come up and it has clips of some of their new songs on the CD!!
This old Shaker hymn dates back to 1860-- great song. If you want to hear a FANTASTIC version -contemporary with a black gospel flavor-- email me -I have an audio of EVA CASSIDY singing it live with a great choir . I will send it to you on request. She hits a high A as clear as her lower notes--it really is wonderful-- refreshing take on the song .
HI-Thanks for the correction-I definitely will not believe every website I read !!! I grew up in a large ,very musical Mennonite church and I'm sure we sang every hymn ever written-except this one !! But having said that--my fav version of this song is Eva's even aft listening to others! PS--Shall We Gather at the River-was a very popular song in our circles-especially funerals !
i luv this song...i also love singing so much. i've been in chorus for 4 (going on 5) years, and it's so fun! this version is really pretty, but i love the enya one!
The music is heavenly... Another nice group is Sexteto Cantabile. They are grown up but they're worth the listening... Tell me afterwards what you think
lol, that sucks, i choked on my chorus solo, but people didn't know, they just thought the mic was too far away from my mouth cause i'm way too fucking tall for the rest of the people who had solos and the mic didn't go any higher! it sucked, but i did pretty good for the parts i sang, i only forgot liek one line so it was alright.
Glen is the one in the red shirt the camera pans to right after Daren. He's in a lot of these early videos. Like in Footsteps, he's one of the soloists along with Daren, Ollie, and Anthony Maher.
What's most important......Is the beautiful music they share with all of us......if we listen with our hearts....

Where are the consonants?

To be honest, the vowels are more important than the consonants.

Well if you sounded bad singing, wouldn't you sound 10x worse in a place that would amplify your sound?

I don't understand it either. Apart from a word here or there...

I lift my eyes; the cloud grows thin; I see the blue above it; And day by day this pathway smooths,
Since first I learned to love it. The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart, A fountain ever springing;
All things are mine since I am his--How can I keep from singing?

Sorry, but this is not a Shaker hymn. It was written by Robert Lowry, who is best known for "Shall We Gather at the River."

For a more contemporary version, have a look at Holly Kirby (Alpet07). It's simple, but quite lovely.
