NEWS: Skype on the Nokia N800!

Skype on my N800 won't make a ringing sound when I make or receive a call. I've tried messing with the sound settings, and I still can't seem to get it to make a ringing sound.

I think I figured out how to fix it. I had to mess with the settings in the N800's native internet calling feature, not the settings in Skype.

when you call him i wonder how is your number coming through. does it show your skype account name like jason.smith or it shows your mobile phone number like +1 906 ... smth?

Im looking into skype. You get a separate number for skype? So you have you're cellphone number and your skype number. From skype, you call directly to any number you want? and is the computer to computer like an instant messenger?

How do u clean up/defrag your n800?

You don't actually have to defrag the N800, but if it's running slow, you can clean it up by removing some applications that you do not need.

Folks, watch out! Skype rips off its subscribers through the skype messenger software. I have checked the number of minutes and the amounts of fees for the durations of calls. You are being overcharged by average of 20% or more than what they have advertised.

The N800 has Skype. The 770 can do calls over Google Talk only to other tablets.

that´s false...you can download the gizmo project from the maemo website, so you can talk from your nokia to any landline or cellphone worldwide. gizmo project is cheaper than skype and also you can chat with your msn contacts or myspace or aol at the same time. is awsome. i also recomend you to download canola 2.0 and starting to watch youtube videos...now my n770 is awsome!

free Skype-to-Skype. Cost $3 a month for unlimited calls to local and long distance landline, cell, etc.

Or you can add Skype credit with minimum $10, for about 1 cent per minute.

Well over here in Europe nothing other than HSDPA would make sence, unless there is a module which can be switched in the future with a WiMax module to be totally future-proof.

Really, I don't think the normal cell phone would be needed if HSDPA could be integrated, in such a way it wakes up the device from sleep-mode on incomming IP packets be it VOIP, IM, Email or other..

Which do you prefer? N800 or your UMPC? I'm sure they both have their own great features.

Both for different purposes. The N800 goes with me everywhere because it's so functional and so damn small. The UMPC goes when I need PC apps on the run.

Won't happen. AT&T's EDGE is too slow and only "approved" applications will make it. I don't think AT&T/Apple will approve VOIP.
