  • It must be a southern thing ---- we'll eat pretty much anything. I've never tried vegemite, but most people describe it as tasting like bouillon cubes ---- that doesn't sound bad to me.

  • @jaegerhund That's not far off the mark...that it tastes like bouillon. Whether we'll eat ANYTHING depends on your definition of 'anything' though!

The mistake people make with it is that they smear it on the way we'd smear on peanut butter...and expect it to taste like chocolate or Nutella or something. It's not sweet at all (which is why I like it), and that much is way TOO much. I suggest using it like hotsauce...if you're new to it just use a dab and see how it goes!

    Thanks for watching!

  • @RedneckCasanova "Anything" is an exaggeration . I was just picking on myself (ourselves) :) I can't tolerate much of anything sweet anymore so I might be more inclined to like this Aussie food. Anyway, nice respectful video ---take it easy.

  • Mate thats awesome that you like it! I bloody love it! The mistake people make when trying it is putting it on too thick! But then again some love it thick. I think we should export more and more :D

  • Top job mate. :)

  • Thanks so much! I really DO like the stuff...which reminds me, I'm fresh OUT! Time to place an order I guess!

    Thanks for watching!

  • lol, if you came here to aus, people would be very accepting of you, knowing that you like vegimite

  • That's good to know!

    Thanks for watching!

  • It's actually made from brewers yeast (beer leftovers and sweepings off the floor). We are a bunch of boozers down here, not only do we drink beer but we have discovered a way to eat it. Your mum has good taste.

  • Waste not WANT not!

Yeah, I think she does...and this was truly a blind test since she'd never tried it and didn't pretend to like it because I told her to, not that she would have! Kinda hard to FAKE liking Vegemite!

    Thanks for watching!

  • ookay

  • What turd star downed MamaCasanova's YT debut? Shame on them!

    I'm hungry!

  • It's OK dear...not everybody's momma raised them right!

  • Oh BURN! LOL

  • hahaha i liked the look on her face as you was makin it. it was priceless... now do ya realize your gonna have to start orderin even more at one time and sending it to ya momma hahahaha

  • That's OK...she can send ME goodies from the Amish village nearby so I think we can work out a deal!

  • That was awesome. Hope you are having a wonderful vacation and safe travels back home! Hugs, hmarty :)

  • I'm having a WONDERFUL time, thanks! I just wish you and some of the other new friends I met at SouthTube could come hang out on the porch with me n' the Casanova family!

I gotta admit it gets a little boring sometimes...but boring in a GOOD way! Take care, Matt

  • You fed our mother Vegemite?!?!?! Are you nuts??? Well, she is pretty adventurous when it comes to food, so I shouldn't be surprised... this is the same woman who taught me to eat pickled herring straight out of the jar... Now I AM surprised that Daddy tried it, however!

  • Well you know it was more of a case of spousal abuse since he can't escape as quickly as he used to so he HAD to eat it!

    Pickled herring...MMMM!

  • Howdy, Beautiful Josephine!

  • Well, to me Vegemite is like Spam (except for the vegetarian part.) But You're MOM is KILLER!

  • Well thanks! I've been passing along all the nice things people have been saying about her...though I'm not sure I'm ready to break the news to her that the vid has some honors attached to it! I don't pay attention to that stuff much, but she'd be mortified! ;-)

  • Hey, I recognize that shirt! I'm glad you're having fun on your vacation, buddy!

    Jen

  • I'm having a blast...and just FYI I've had some nice comments on our videos of Katjusha, Ieva's Polka, and Staines Morris...particularly Staines since a British fellow who likes that kind of music told me how much he liked our version!

Check it out when you get a chance!

  • Oh, his Mom is an absolute hoot! Really nice.

  • I'll second that!

  • Hey Cat...just so ya know Beach1963 is Jen my music partner and a REALLY cool guy! As long as you don't need to GET anywhere on time!

OOPS, sorry buddy, just kidding...you're doing MUCH better these days! ;-)

  • Yeah, I now show up at 7:xx, which is anywhere during the hour that we agreed to meet up. I really am trying! I know, my place is a temporal vortex, and I just live there.

  • Howdy Mike, glad you were at SouthTube too!

    Matt

  • Your mom must had you when she was 5!

How much did you pay her Matt!??!

  • Well DUH...welcome to Tennessee! ;-)

    And no...if she'da hated it you'd KNOW!

  • Well now...I am surprised. Everyone says how awful Vegemite it is. Oh, I just love your home..what I can see of it. hugs, Chris

  • I have to say it IS a bit unusual at first, but it's really no worse than other things we eat all the time over here. Soy sauce comes to mind as something with a somewhat similar taste...so don't mistake it for chocolate sauce!

  • wow that jar is huge

way to go Momma Casanova, another Americam who likes vegemite!

  • Actually my dad tried it, though I'm not sure if he was just doing it to humor me. Momma actually LIKES it!

  • I tried to get my mom to try it, but as soon as she smelt it she said no haha

  • If I'd known there was an Australian bakery in Marietta, GA I would have picked up the REALLY big plastic tub while I was at SouthTube!

I buy those jars by the half-case (6 jars) and it lasts me for a few months at a time.

  • I tried Vegemite about 2 years ago. It is NOT for me (lol)....Truly, I am SHOCKED that your mom did not FREAK OUT....Congratulations to you for introducing your mom to something new...successfully...WOW, Vegemite....

  • Actually I've been enjoying it for so long that I can't see what people DON'T like about it. Strange! ;-)

  • Matt I'm going to take your word on the vegimite. LOL Your Mom is very nice and I love that log cabin. -Jim

  • Read my response to Glenna just below...that's the best way I can think to explain it...at least to someone from the South!

    Later, Matt!

  • Matt.. Your Mom's beautiful.. Well if your Mom says it's good..I must believe.. Love your parents house..

  • Aww thanks...and Linda says hi! I think it's just like deer meat...if you KNOW what to expect and it's fixed by somebody who knows what they're doing you STILL might not LIKE it but you probably won't HATE it!

Oh, and I'll be posting some shots of the house pretty soon.

  • Your mother is much braver than I.

  • I think she nailed it later on after filming this when she said it's kind of like a fairly potent soy sauce and we sell LOTS of that in the States. Still, I'm sure I smear it on MUCH thinner than some Ozzies!

  • What? I thought Vegemite was illegal in the states...or at least Tennesee! You must have a blackmarket source! Well, at least your mom has laid to rest the ugly rumors we've all been lead to believe about the stuff tasting so bad!

  • It's still NOT to everyone's taste, but hell if you can eat soy sauce you can eat Vegemite...it's just thicker! But most people try to spread it too thick and eat it by itself on a cracker or something...BAD idea! Use LOTS of butter or cheese and a TINY amount of Vegemite!

  • Can't get ENOUGH of the sacred VEG!

  • Very cool Matt! That was awesome. I'm going to make my video tomorrow morning! Russ

  • Looking forward to it!

  • Meat In A Jar? I Think You May Be On To Sonmething Matt. Just Make Sure You Don't Kill To Many People In The Taste Test. LOL!

  • I'm Not Sure If That's Grammaticly Correct. If It Isn't Could Someone Correct Me. I'm French Canadian And I'm Not Good At Spelling. (Or Grammar LOL) I Like To Lear From My Mistakes So Could Someone Let Me Know?

  • Your grammar and spelling seem just fine by internet standards, though you could save yourself a few keystrokes by not capitalizing every word. No big deal...just more work than you need to put forth! :-)

  • It's Just The Way I Type. It's Kind Of A Habitt.

  • Not criticizing at all! :-)

    Take care, Matt

  • What Is In Vegemite Matt?

  • It's a concentrated yeast extract that's a bi-product of the beer brewing process. It's very salty and has a flavor somewhere between beef bouillon and soy sauce and a texture sort of like drywall joint compound but it's dark brown and FULL of B-complex vitamins so it's an excellent hangover remedy!

  • Gotta love the iron skillets in the background. Best for fried chicken..mmm.

Nice to meet Momma Casanova, bless her little heart being so willing to try Vegemite on camera. I wonder if it is in the genes?

    Take care,

    Martha

  • Yeah, good cooking and craziness run in my family! ;-)

    Thanks Martha!

  • Hey Matt,

MommaCasanova it so pretty, and totally cool! She's brave, I hear you're not supposed to smell it before you eat it, and she did both (enjoying the vegemite to boot)! Maybe it does run in your genes!!

Loved her kitchen too, she's even got a collection of Iron skillets!! That tells me she totally knows how to cook!!! *hugs* Angie

  • Linda says thanks and she's still alive!

  • Who is Linda and what did she do with MommaCassanova?? *tilt*

  • Matt

I see you got a new supply of vegemite.

    Your Mom really liked it.

I need to try this stuff..lol

Your mom is so down to earth just like you :~)

Thanx for sharing her with us!

    Hugs

    Jen
