It's important to take note of Smith's talk, since it's typical of extreme conservatives to misrepresent those who have liberal, secular value systems. Not only do these conservatives often quote-mine, taking conclusions away from their other supporting premises, but they, then, all of a sudden, link the misrepresented viewpoint back to Hitler and Nazi Germany. This routine is all-too-common, shameful, and boring (cf. Ray Comfort, Kirk Cameron, William Lane Craig, Dinesh D'souza).
I was going to say that his little tantrum at the end was unbefitting of any thinking person. I then discovered that this Wesley Smith is involved in the Discovery Institute, and therefore is not a thinking person. The big difference between the Nazis and Peter Singer is that the Nazis killed disabled adults without regard for their suffering, while Singer advocates infanticide precisely because it would reduce future suffering.
cokemagistrate, You should be offended by Singer; he's a neo-Nazi. I certainly am, he wants to kill my precious daughter Christina, who has an extra chromosome.
he didn't take it out of context. Just because Singer notes that some disabled people enjoy life, thus their disabilities do not make their lives not worth living, he nonethless takes the position that Wesley articulates. You are actually taking Wesley's comments out of context when you slam this "by the way" comment of Singer's against his words as a trump card. All anyone has to do is read Singer's work (as I have), and have training in the area of disability advocacy to know this.
I support Mr. Smith and his comments. I do not believe he took Singer's words out of context. Yes, he did get angry. While he was angry, however, Mr. Smith acted in a perfectly acceptable manner. He was not offensive in any way. Quite frankly, I'm insulted by Singer's ideas. His grandparents were murdered by the Nazis. Yet, Singer holds the same values as they did. One last thing: Aren't "disabled" people, even with their perceived flaws, able to enjoy the beauty of life?
You may or may not be right, but still by his, in my opinion facsist, definition of a person, my sister might as well be a pile of straw, since she has a condition (Trisomy 13) he would consider "so crippling as to make life not worth living." And still, even if he wouldn't kill a haemophiliac baby he would agree with it being legal because the baby is not a "person." Very benevolent.
This man doesn't understand what he is reading. Unless this man is actively trying to stop the US genocide in Iraq there is absolutely no reason to listen to him.
See if you can talk about even one issue without mentioning Iraq, Marx. Wesley Smith never even mentioned his stance on the Iraq war. How does that change the fact that Peter Singer supports killing newborns?

Funny to hear an American talking about the sanctity of life.
Ouch.
According to a conservative estimate by peace studies expert Johanne Galtung the yanks have killed more than 100 million people since the end of the 2nd World War.
Why worry about a few dead gimps? If someone had post natally aborted the Bush gimp the world would be a much happier place.

Since the comment was 8 months ago I don't remember the context. I presume it was some seppo moron whining about Singer wanting to post natally abort the disabled. A fine idea in my opinion. I guess I'm a no frills tool - don't speak to shock just like rational public policy unfettered by religion or hopeless notions about the sanctity of life and hate the US with a passion because it is largely populated by people who are oblivious to or uncaring about the policy of mass murder for profit.
You really don't need to believe in God to have a problem with killing newborns, ya know. If you think the sanctity of life is a hopeless notion then don't come running to us the next time you think your rights are being trod upon.

Perrine how do you feel about being married to your animal of choice? Singer thainks that's fine. Wesley's too polite to mention that.

By the way, someone mentioned the Sudan. Wesley has written about such issues, including slavery and human trafficking in that and other countries.

Quotation from Professor Singer in the very same chapter:
"Note, however, that neither haemophilia nor Down's Syndrome is so crippling as to make life not worth living".
Smith, despite having said, "I don't think you can takes these quotes [sic] out of context", takes them out of context.
I really wish people wouldn't spread propaganda about Singer. Read his books, find out what he's about, you'll realise he's a benevolent man.

I don't know if you're some tool who tries to say outrageous things just to shock people, or if you're just a no-frills tool.
