If you watched this video, the carjack suspect was already subdued when the officer began beating him while the other officers held him down. That is just senseless abuse of 'power'.. not the maglite's fault.
I think police have enough gadgets to cause harm to an assailant, so this isn't really an issue of Political Correctness about a flashlight either.

Oh yeah . . . Apparently it's also perfectly fine to hit a dangerous suspect with a police-issued baton. But not with a flashlight. Nope! That's just evil apparently.
God-forbid a police officer should defend himself with his flashlight if ambushed by a suspect, thus giving him enough time to go for his issued sidearm. You can shoot a murderous suspect, but hitting him with a flashlight is apparently somehow evil.
The sad part is, the Pelican is actually a very good flashlight in its own right. But it was adopted for that reason. It was adopted due to Political Correctness B.S.
