I get the impression from how the stabbed man (who was bitten earlier by the zombies in a previous scene) turns around that he's on the verge of going full-blown zombie. It looks like he's fighting with the affliction before he manages to get his humanity back (just prior to being attacked again). He was bitten, it was only a matter of time before the effects would start to take hold.
