I finally understand a little bit about toss and fall... ( I started golf 9 month ago). I initially focuses on a feel of tossing club head and falling club head. But later to me, the feeling was more like hands were tossed, hands were fallen. And club head is in sync with hand by grip... something like that.
THE ONLY THING I DONT USE THAT YOU PREACH IS HOW YOU GRIP THE CLUB, I HAVE MEDIUM LARGE HANDS BUT THEY ARE FAT SO I KEEP GRIP IT A LITTLE SLANTED BUT IM PRETTY SURE THE CLUB IS SNUG WITH NO PLAY
Hi Shawn, I found your videos and went through most and found something to work on. It was getting the back leg braced in a good position for that push forward feel. First I tried getting that back turned toward the target on a plane to the back foot. What made my session much better was getting the arms to momentum along with that move to what I would say a comfy back leg feel. Pretty soon it was arm cadence and my end of bucket going MUCH more solid and straight. Keep er up!!
great vids they really help...im kina confused on this though.but i was wondering what clubs you ussually use?and what would be the best for a reasonable price, because im just beginning and only have a ram set.thanks
Great videos. I have a question that i hope you may have an answer for. Toss fall, brace tilt, along with being sure i have front foot braced all work well for me. My problem is they only work with a full swing. Do you having any ideas what i should do when i choke down, or make a shorter swing? I am "toast" when i do this, and can't find what it is i'm doing wrong. Thanx for your time. (fyi....i am not making solid contact with adjusted swing...all over the place).
When doing a shorter swing; do not restrict the hip turn! When a baseball pitcher tosses a ball to first base he uses a full body motion; it is just not a full range of his full body motion! The constant needs to be staying over the left ankle and left hip with the pressure; have a look at the "Chip Yips" video from the you tube shawn page of my website...Thanks for the comment and question! Shawn
thnx i'll have a look. just got back from the range and am in trouble with me drive. only way i'm making it work, is to close face at address and feel as if im really closing it on downswing. otherwise ....push/slice.
i need to get into these videos you have a lil deeper.
This video was fantastic. Very interesting you chose the 6iron from 123 yards though... would have guessed 9 or PW, but I guess you were trying to lower the trajectory and bounce the ball up.. a fine strategy which I use all the time down on the hard greens of Texas!
Hi Shawn. Great videos! I have a problem maintaining my spine angle through inpact. My shoulders rise up as I begin my downswing. I love that squat position you get into. Almost like Snead on a stool. I've understand what I should do, from watching 'Hogan's power drill' and have watched almost all your videos, but can't actually "do" it myself. Any drills that could help. Thanks so much,
Have a look at the "Don't Keep your Head Down" part 1 and 2 videos from the "You Tube Shawn" page of my website; they have good tips on how to maintain your forward spine angle...Thanks for the comment! Shawn
Shawn..Your emphasis on "effortless" swings prompts me to ask you if you've ever learned Transcendental Meditation. It is based on effortlessness. The notion is that naturally the mind will be drawn to the state of least excitation of consciousness at the source of thought, where the mind is "restfully alert" (and infinitely expanded)...like an arrow drawn back on a bow, there is rest but a dynamic rest, poised for dynamic activity. Nature uses minimum energy (effortless) to do what it does.
I noticed that too! It was unconscious and tells me to be aware of my alignment a tad more...I hit the shot 4 feet so it was not that bad and it could have been outside factors such as the slope of the fairway and the contour of the green and the way it fit my eye so I would say that it was subconcious...
Hey shawn another awesome video. I would be well and truly lost without you and your tuition. I'm still having some problems with my left to right control with the ball. I played on sunday and lost 3 balls to the bushes which i wasn't too happy about. Any tips that would help me have more control of the ball's path? I have a video of my swing on my youtube page.
Once again Shawn does a brillant job explaining expecially the sensations during the golf swing; one of the most difficult aspects of teaching and learning golf. Unbelievable how effortless your swing looks like! Thanks a lot.
Hey Shawn, I noticed you have some really great lag on the down swing and your right elbow is nice and close to your body. Are you conscious of the amount of lag you're creating on the down swing...or is the lag and elbow close to the body automatically created without thinking of it?
I have a hard time maintaining lag because I don't know how to do it and I also feel as though I might miss the ball entirely if I try to maintain the lag until the last possible moment.
Great question! It is done through letting gravity hinge and unhinge the wrists; it is not done manually! Watch the "get some Lag", "Catapult Power", "Arm Motion", "Elbow Close?", "Through the ball", "Contact and Spin", "Bridging Flat wrists with hinged wrists" videos and there is sure to be something in there to help!! You know where to find those right? On my website in the "you tube Shawn" page...
I notice on your shift of the hips (toward the target on begining of swing), that your right knee goes toward the target and stays there throughout the back swing. Is this worth focusing on or should this be ignored?
Always Skip everything; Imagine the sole of the club like a skipping stone...it deflects off the ground after impact with the ball; the longer the club, the shallower the skip...you should be focused on anticipating the skip with the turf and not the impact with the ball...check out the "Fairway woods", "Hybrids" and "Don't Keep your head down part 1 and 2" from the "YOU TUBE Shawn" page of my website for skipping details!
Hi Shawn, thanks for the videos they're a great help. I putt realy well on uphill and long putts but I get the yips on downhill ones. My husband says I need a new putter, what do you say. Also he says I should use a new ball every round of golf.
It just sounds to me like your backswing is just a bit long and you need to decelerate on the short and downhill ones causing that steering effect. What you are sending to the hole is the "momentum" of the stroke and not the ball...the ball gets washed into the hole with the wave of momentum...draino!
Check out the putting tips on my website's "you tube shawn" page where all my videos are...my dvd has a great section on putting too! :)
I can say that the one concept that I've absolutely incorporated into my game and that you've emphasized over and over again is using momentum to swing the club rather than any physical exertion on my part. And I gotta say with each round I'm getting more and more pleased with the results. Thanks!
Trying to hit the ball with every muscle in your body instead of using momentum is probably every amateurs biggst problem in there swing. Thanks again Shawn and I really envy you´re students for having u as a trainer.
just wondering if you have any videos on putting? im having trouble reading greens and i often over compensate for the surface. and also judging the power i need to get it to the hole.
I have 2 others on putting for the moment; we will spruce that up a bit but the ones that are there will definitely help with the basics and speed control; the titles are "Putting secrets" and "putt grip" on the "You Tube Shawn" page of my website...

It looks like you hit Your 6 irons from a little closed posture alignment being to the right of the target? Is that concious?

Let me be clear, I realize that your knee rotates, but do you try and keep it toward the target for brace?

Hi shawn another great video!!!
One question when hitting 3 and 4 irons should you take a divot or should you play them more like a fairway wood and stroke it of the grass?
Cheers
