@rdrakken, Yes it is DC that creates the incentives for corporations to buy off politicians. The current tax code is enormous, filled with all kinds of special favors. The worst part is that taxes are passed on to all of us. Payroll taxes reduce wages by increasing the cost of labor for instance. The fairtax, while not perfect would be a vast improvement and would just about eliminate corporate incentives to buy off politicians for tax breaks, regulations are another issue though.

The current tax code being enormous has more to do with people finding ways around them making the government create another line to close the hole, the special favors in them, again created by people bought out.

Did you know that when the income tax was first levied in 1913 the income tax brackets were from 1-7% and corporate taxes were first levied at 1%, since then they have grown and as they have grown the incentives are to get around them and that is why we have politicians paid off. The fair tax would eliminated the income tax and hence the incentives to buy off politicians.

If a corporation can spend a million bucks on a candidate and then get 2 million in return in tax breaks, fewer regulations and so forth they are going to do it and so would 99.9% of the rest of us, which includes the OWS folks. @rdrakken, Yes it is DC that creates the incentives for corporations to buy off politicians. The current tax code is enormous, filled with all kinds of special favors. The worst part is that taxes are passed on to all of us. Payroll taxes reduce wages by increasing the cost of labor for instance. The fairtax, while not perfect would be a vast improvement and would just about eliminate corporate incentives to buy off politicians for tax breaks, regulations are another issue though.

The current tax code being enormous has more to do with people finding ways around them making the government create another line to close the hole, the special favors in them, again created by people bought out.

@rdrakken, You are correct. It is about finding ways around the tax burden, which is the incentive to buy off politicians. Did you know that when the income tax was first levied in 1913 the income tax brackets were from 1-7% and corporate taxes were first levied at 1%, since then they have grown and as they have grown the incentives are to get around them and that is why we have politicians paid off. The fair tax would eliminated the income tax and hence the incentives to buy off politicians.
