  • rock on Lindas sons

  • Memories with this song.

  • I'm an atheist and I love Christian Metal. How about that :P

  • Hey guys, shut up...you hear that? The silence and the music blending into perfect harmony? I'm a christian, and I love this song. Now all of you need to stop disputing their lyrics. If you have a problem with the song, don't listen. Most of you just came looking for a fight. Now, enjoy the music or get out.

  • Here is a hint: If you don't want to have religion mentioned, then don't even acknowledged anything.

  • this song will always be one of my favorites. Dead man.. we're you ever.. alive?

  • I was about to like this band until i saw all the religious bullsh*t.... I guess music can't just be music anymore...

  • @sackd18w And if you cannot look past views while listening to music than you don't deserve to listen to good music. Go listen to K3$#A asshole.

  • I used to be agnostic. Just recently fully went to athiest. I was baptized a catholic. Religion wise I've been through some... The music is still great :)

The song talks about shooting up and its not all based on religion.

  • I'm an atheist and I still like this song if they're christian or not. Don't know why people have to bring religion into everything.

  • @spizec When a band follows themes that people can't relate to, it's kind of hard for those people not to point out those features.

Not that hard to figure out.

  • this song is heart breaking , but i love it.

  • gross papyrus font

  • i thik it's important that everyon eis entitled to their own opinion and you don't have to force your agenda down their throat

  • is this the boys frm clondalkin, dublin?? if so its me Jay!!

  • again with the debates. Is it that hard to agree that this band just kick's ass. if you don't like the religious aspect of them then don't listen to them. I'[m not the most religious but I'm not going to start petty debates and arguments.

  • gives me chills every time. This song means so much to me.

  • The most depressing song on the face of this earth. I'm a fan.

  • @SuckDatAGS this is not the most depressing song. not even close.

  • @SuckDatAGS Try Timothy.

  • I'm a Christian, and I even avoid religious debates because it gets you nowhere. Plus, half the "Christians" that are starting these debates don't know what they're talking about. Once an atheist or agnostic gives them a rebuttal that they can't answer, they start condemning and judging that person. Sorry to be a hater on my own people, but a YouTube thread is no place to start a holy war. Witnessing is better left face to face on a more personal level than a cold thread. God bless!

  • God is real, and he sees and understands all of your problems. I met as Cities burns, and they are so strongly concerned with people lives and understandment of the jesus. If you have opened eyes, you will see what you were truly ment to see. but for those of you who have closed eyes, then if you think that "even if their is a god, he must be asleep"- As cities burn.

  • As long as were all being obnoxiously vocal about our opinions, I'm agnostic and I absolutely love this band along with my epic who is much more obvious with their Christianity. I capitalize that only because the red squiggly lines beneath it frustrate me. ps I love you.

  • Absolutely great song.

  • You guys can argue all you want, but I will sit here and enjoy this song.. -_-

  • I hope im not the only one who got tears in their eyes from this song

  • in my opinon I dont think you have to look closely to find its about his father but to find a chrstan meaning (for lack of better words) tho you can take it as you please I dont see the point of argueing about it

  • stop having religious arguments. if you were truly a christian you would acknowledge the fact that in the bible it teaches us to be tolerant and excepting of other peoples beliefs, even though you may disapprove of the way they live, you don't have to shove your religion/beliefs down their throat and likewise for the atheists.

  • @sunchild94 Why not discuss Christianity on the comments relating to a Christian bands songs?

  • @777Sir because it just sort of makes a mess...

  • if you read the lyrics closely this song isnt even about jesus...its obviously about his dad

  • this is a lovely song its a passionit twist of the father leaveing his family he did it so...... well I can feel what he felt I get what he went threw and his mother "and my mothers heart breaks like the water inside of her" I love ths son

  • i havent really followed the argument or whatever religious talk is happening right now on this video; but judging from the few comments i've read, its apparent that some sort of disagreement is going down.. but musicians make music for us to enjoy and love.. not to argue about, whatever the message of this song is, this song is undoubtably awesome.. can't you just listen and appreciate it for what it is and presents itself as, rather than think to hard and delve to deep into what it implies? :)

  • @LetsMakeLemons95 too* forgot the second o ;D

  • I havent heard this song in ages, and i still get chills and on the verge of tears. tears of epicness.

  • Message

  • I seriously doubt you took a shot in church, we all know you're just trolling. If you're not christian, take nothing from the song and enjoy the music. If you are, then hey there's a

  • lol you stupid loosers are still arguing about religion in this music...fact is that there is no god so i think with this oppinion we can all enjoy the song, right?

  • After listening to the live performance so much this just doesnt cut it.

  • @teejay89656 musically its better, emotionally not as much because it was so personal to him in the moment of the live version. example: Leeland's "May Our Praise" was way better at Harvest Crusade Anaheim a few years ago rather than the album version because of Leeland's own emotions in that moment (you could see the tears running down his face at Harvest and felt the emotion in his voice). So for me, I would rather listen to this to hear the song itself.

  • @kirbypufball I geuss i just value the emotion in music more than anything else. I mean that is why most people enjoy music. Because its a emotional link to something. Or they relate to the song on a emotional level.

  • who can dislike a song like this? seriously?

  • Or wa i just some seed buried inside a woman u wed? I always wonder the same thing about my dad bc hes not here either

  • dead man were you ever alive? the same thing i ask my father.

  • I bought this CD years ago based only on the album art. Never heard them/heard of them before buying it. Glad I did!

  • this sing reminds me of the sims... cause i listened it on repeat for like hrs straight while playing the sims 2:D

  • Eh, my friend recommended this, and I don't care whether or not it's religious. I dislike dissonance and this song is full of it. Especially the dissonance between the voice and music.

  • unfriendable brought me here :P

  • Praise the Lord

  • everyone looks for what they believe in, in the world around them. i used to be a really strong christian. but i cant help but think of my ex-girlfriend in the last 5 lines of the first verse. because i think of her that much. evolutionists come up with hoaxes. why? if what they believe is so true, why? maybe because they dont feel assured by seeking evolution in the things around them. but we shouldnt avoid each other. we need to learn to live together so the past never repeats.

  • also the song is called the widow. I.E father dying living his mother a widow

  • I love this song but i could have sworn it was about a father who leaves his family over drugs. He loved the world he lived it but decided to choose a heroin over his family and over life. Maybe i missed it, but where is god reference in this song.

  • @JaceyLP agreed

  • @JaceyLP who said it did? if anything it tells how he forgives his dad like god ... and have you heard the lyrics? "my god what a world you love"

  • What this song is saying is that our world is litterally hell, and though everything might stock pile on eachother, Losing a father, Losing a family, Heroin addiction, anything, that if you learn to love like Jesus taught us to love, it's all forgiven, and if you learn to live in the Lords will, everything will always turn out for the best, In pain theres always a lesson to be learned, Blessings in disguise, What is lost is later gained on earth and also in Heaven, We're here to love like Jesus.

  • Dang, you're only like 3 years older than me.

  • This kills me to take what I have for granit.

  • Sad. This is a glimpse at the world. Im need to find a way to broadcast this across my entire school and open the eyes of the ignorant. This and 'The World as We Know It' by SKSK and some ather eye opening songs.

  • yeah you're right this song is called "the widow" because the song is about their father who left them when they were small and did drugs, and how even though they were constantly let down because of his faith he is able to still love his father.

so yes and no its about god.

  • I can honestly say that I love this song... It reminds me of all the things I've gone through and how odd this world is, even though I'm still young, I've found myself at dead bottom with no one to go for comfort... and at that time I felt so far away from God, I just didn't feel him with me either ..I was basically alone... But fortunately now I'm regenerating and continuing my walk with Him <3

  • i know theres a lot of reference to god in this song, but dont the lyrics point to him talking about his father deserting him? or am i just misinterpreting it?

  • @DarkSpark94 it is. I guess it depends on the coloring your view coming into the song, but the main point of contention is that we don't know if he is saying "My God, what a world you [God] love" or "My god, what a world you [his father] love".

  • @XXRoseWeedXX well, i'd assume he's saying it as like...'god, what kind of world do you love', trying to imply why god loves a world where everything is wrong.

  • thats what she said :D

  • the end is the best part of this song...

even after all i've done, HE still loves me.

  • When will this pathetic excuse of a race known as humanity learn to stop bickering with each other over topics that are and will always be opinion based. The bottom line is that when it comes to religion, there is no right and there is no wrong. It will be or not be whatever the individual chooses. If Christianity, Satanism, or Atheism is the way a person chooses to interpet religion, who are you to call them stupid for it? We need to learn to look past our opinions, they make us barbaric.

  • I looked up this band, must have been an act of god....haha, ohh now he is telling me to give my money away.....but god im broke and i need it, ok, i can give my money away, thanks god.....

  • @gerudobombshell ... what? the bible never says that you're required to give money..

  • @Bojl95 the bible actually says to give 10% of your earnings but with faith you will receive more in return. Ever since I started doing this and actually meaning it I have actually been finding loads of money on the ground, and also finding money I never thought i had! haha Unfortunately some churches take away money and spend it horribly but I joined my church to build homes in other countries with the money we received.

  • @avisionofcall Yeah, the bible also says we shouldn't sin, but we do anyway. What i'm trying to say is that God won't hold it against you if you don't. But a true Christian will always WANT to do good.

  • Dead man were ever alive.

  • Can't stop crying.

    I love As Cities Burn.

    For life.

  • My bestfriends father just died today at such a young age, life isn't fair and even though he wasn't my father he treated me like i was one of his own. This is the only song that really describes how I feel.

  • i miss the old As Cities Burn

  • Question everything Believe in nothing live your own life not a gods

  • Im atheist and still love this song, who cares if its religous? good music is good music, and the song has a different meaning to me then god, theres nothing wrong with people having different interpretaions of the lyrics

the lyrics are beautiful even if i may have different beleifs <3

  • @WeAreAWalkingTragedy well, its mostly because christians always seek god in everything, they try to find the smallest thing to point out god, then they exploit it, then it becomes an arguement, so its best to stay away from any religious comments whether christian or not....

  • @rutledge123 thats very true you gotta good point there

  • @rutledge123 agreed :)

  • @rutledge123 But the songs are about god, they dont hide it like most bands, therefore it makes sense for the comments, you could argue about whether my name is tony or john, but that doesn't change the fact i'm named christian, although my religion is of my own, as I believe that there is a god but I dont believe most of the bible, but I still don't bend this band towards my religion

  • @rutledge123 thats right .. to hell with religion ! It's all about a personal and intimate relationship with the Savior. Great song

  • @rutledge123 we don't always look for every little detail to prove God is real. I am a leader at church and when christians do this it makes me sad. this action seems like they are forcing beliefs down people's throats. ACB is a band that does the opposite. All songs have biblical references but they don't force their beliefs on people but spread his love through songs and allow people to perceive them as they wish.

  • @rutledge123 Gotta give God the glory though right

  • @rutledge123 But if your a true christian you know God is capitalized...not just god. Lower case is like ancient greek gods

  • @21dirtbikegirl thanks for the input, though if you didnt make assumptions that i am christian, it would be greatly appreciated considering i am not, and whether god is capitalized or not has no importance to me honestly, plus even so, its the internet and proper punctuation has all but gone to shit, so why would u even care

  • @rutledge123 lmfaooo win

  • @rutledge123 I think that you can both stfu

  • @rutledge123 your starting the same argument you talked about avoiding... just tlk bout the music fuck everything else if the songs about God let it ride....

  • @21dirtbikegirl being a true christian has nothing to do with capitalization... just because you capitalize the name of god doesn't mean that you're going to heaven smart one

  • @21dirtbikegirl shutupshutupshutup. Bacchus is the one true God.

  • @896748rhjbasgjjgankl All hail Bacchus!! XD

  • @21dirtbikegirl

You miss the point in faith and the love of the Lord if you focus on capitalizing a letter.

  • @21dirtbikegirl Your god and his capitalization can suck my dick, This is an amazing song. dont ruin it with bringing in your god.

  • @DahmDruid god doesnt ruin anything...your saying that to the one who cares about you most in this world...next time think before you talk. god gaves us 2 ears and 1 mouth listen more before you speak

  • @MLyoupunk would you stop fighting

  • @DahmDruid you criticize God and Christianity without understanding them

  • @MLyoupunk OMFG all you christianfags stfu! This song mentions gOD like once and it is criticized for loving a world where sin and evil thrives. If gOD is so good and powerful like you believe than why did ur gOD let this shit happen to the singer of this song. Why'd he have to be hurt so much that he wrote this song? You know why? Because your gOD is pathetic and can't do shit cuz we got free will. I can take a shit in a church and he wont do shit cuz i do wat i want beeotch!

  • @TheObamican your obviously stupid the singer himself is a christian...you cant blame God for the death of his father f you do that then you have to blame God for everything that happens in the world. we have free will therefore it is our faults and our sin that causes heartbreak in the world. and if you go take a shit in a church your mocking God and the punishment for that in the Bible was death. salutations to you sir

  • @MLyoupunk I took a shit in a church 16 hours ago and guess what? I'm still alive! And I know the singer is christian I'm just saying that this particular song only mentions gOD once. But you wouldn't get that cuz all u christianfags do is throw things out of context. Also, when I bad situation occurs I blame the person who can do something about it. Like a man watching a child playing in the street while a car comes rushing down about to hit the kid.

  • @MLyoupunk Could he do something? Yes. Did he? No. Thats gOD for you. Letting people just get hit by cars and not do shit. He has the power to do something why not do it. Either he is an evil fuck or he is not real. YOu decide.

  • @TheObamican God definitely isnt evil...obviously you don't know who the devil is. just because he has the power to do soemthing doesnt mean hes going to thats how we learn as humans and as those who are christians if everything went right in the world there would be no point. and send me a picture of that shit in church id like to see it. the mentioning of God in this song obviously is the whole point of the song. its not being thrown out of context numnuts

  • @MLyoupunk Your God lets babies get raped and you worship him. Fuck your shitty ass religion.

  • @TheObamican you cant blame God for that. he gave us free will and with that comes tose bad choices peopel make like raping babies. you seriously need some help with you life kid if you think God is to blame for everything

  • @MLyoupunk what god?

  • @TheObamican you whore

  • @WeAreAWalkingTragedy and pretty much in the smallest way he's showing grace. because how it says "though i'd still love you, if you told me you just walked away" then goes on to say "i believe there is something here to be learned of grace because i can't help but love you" that takes an enormous amount of grace.. because the natural thing to do is to hate, but love is soo strong that it overcomes hate.. if you dont believe in God, just know that God believes in you. later man..

  • @WeAreAWalkingTragedy agreed. For me, music is humanity's closest expression of divinity and religion is only a benign by-product of an inherited power struggle - an expression of dominance. For me, music is the language of god.

  • @WeAreAWalkingTragedy I'm a Christian and would like to tell you that As Cities Burn is a Christ following band but what I love about them is that they don't force their beliefs on people. I mean, their music has a message behind it that one must seek out and yes it's biblically related throughout most of their songs but they leave the listener to perceive it as they wish. :)

  • @avisionofcall

I feel like a lot of Christian bashing goes on because of those people. And They have every right to do so, as often they are bashed right back. I, myself, have been gay bashed by christians. Both sides need to realize is that bashing the other doesn't make the offender hurt, it just justifies their bashing.

I feel like the people who i would listen to the most are the ones who have the undertone, but it can be enjoyed without a belief in your god. Like superchick or ACB. :D

  • @WeAreAWalkingTragedy amen, i think most artists write their songs KNOWING that their songs will be interpreted differently by listener. and that's okay. i myself, am a christian, and what i take from the song might be different than yours, but it's still just as amazing regardless of who you are or what your beliefs (or lack of) are.

  • Wow, to get redirected here from an Acacia Strain video. Gayer than Aids. Someone should take this down.

  • @BodeTheJedi Someone should take you down.

  • Wow, to get redirected here from a Acacia Strain video. Gayer than Aids. Someone should take this down.

  • Why does this song HAVE to be about God? Why can't it be about a son talking to his father? Oh, because you said so? That's awesome for you. I'll take it as a child talking to their father about his mistakes.

  • why do christians think they are soo high and mighty ohh all praise be to god because someone made a song about their love for god

    I DONT NEED TO KNOW

i believe in god and i do love god but this isnt going to help you at all in the afterlife when it comes down to it is everyone has their own grave and their own meeting with god its not my job to tell people how to live their lives or show off my love for god

    christianity is corrupt btw :p

  • "Dead man is it being high that makes you alive."

  • this song brings back memories=)

  • One of my favorite songs ever !

  • nice

  • ugh its a pretty nice song. although i am the opposite of a religious person. Guess if it wasnt religious i'd love the song...ugh. not gonna listen to it again i guess...

  • great song.

and one of the most talented bands ive heard in my day.

  • I'm not even religious... but damn this is a good song.

If I WAS religious... then this song would be perfect.

  • @stinkerlinker2 for real im not Christian at all this guy is just amazing an amazing song writer

  • this song is perfect.

  • This is my favorite song of all time.

  • My God....what a world you love.

    thank you

  • my god, what a world you love

  • Great Song!

  • what're they saying at the end?

  • no i can't help but love you. even with a heart that breaks. like the promises that you made.

  • @gravityroxz Let the dead bury their own dead.

  • @gravityroxz "Let the dead bury their own dead" its kind of like an intro into the next song on the album, "Wake Dead Man, Wake".

  • amen!

  • Comment removed

  • @samageinmuhhead yea tell it until god leaves you empty and cold fuck god ive grown up loving him and not one prayr answered not one that would change me and lead me in the positive direction im sure theres a pile of unopend prayrs from me and a million other people that he dosnt want to take in

  • @stopdropndpanic I'm sorry you feel that way.... I can't speak on HIs behalf, I do know what I have felt though... Loved. I won't argue with you because it sounds like you need to talk with Him yourself. God loves you, please know that. He was the one who created the rhythm of your heartbeat. Take a look at John chapter 3 in the Bible.

  • @stopdropndpanic you have to give to receive

  • @dfds07 Give to receive haha! I gave everything I could. I'm cursed with the gift of giving. giving forgiveness to to many people who don't deserve it, giving people an ear to listen until I can't hear anymore, putting my pieces back together so that I can build people I don’t even know back up and give them a shoulder to lean on, I've been there for so many people who just leave, and forgiven so many people who deserve to die and nothings happened I'm done destroying myself for other people

  • @stopdropndpanic I mean you have to give your life up to God to receive his blessings(the holy spirit). We pray to give thanks, we pray for strength, courage, patience, integrity, hope, and we pray to acknowledge we are sinners and for God to deliver us from evil. Life is hard w/o God, but it's even harder to walk in Jesus' path. Talk to God and tell him how frustrated you are with everyone and everything. He answers every prayer, but almost never in the way we'd expect.

  • @dfds07 Thanks for trying to help but I mean just that I've grown up in a christian home so I've naturally been generouse and stuff and I've always look to God but I just don't feel the love I'll see after I'm dead

  • @samageinmuhhead aye fuck you!! get outta here with that bullshit !!

  • this song makes me cry. *sniff sniff* it's far too close to my own life. I used to put this on repeat.

  • who cares if they are christian

    its about the music.

  • Why is there so much vulgar stuff on a comment board of a Christian band's video? This should probably be about the music or questioning it's meaning. There are also younger kids on youtube who can see this. Anyway, this music is their greatest - the newer stuff is not even the same band :(

  • Welcome to the sick world of YouTube.

  • i agree, if u dont like the song, dont listen to it but if u rly dont like the band then why are you listening to their music? and is ot rly neccesary to curse when commenting? i personally think its an amazing song. i had a friend whos dad beat him and his mom then left so for me its extremely powerful. "imagine all the people living life in peace"

  • People are what they are, we can't change them. It's too bad really because they really make a fool of themselves.

  • @gaaralover9416 "that line sounds really close to john LEnnon's opening line in "Imagine " hehe, both great songs, with an almost same lyrics line lol

  • it is haha

  • Yes, and I wonder where those kids got the words that's dirtying their mouth? Hmm, probably people who don't care about a problem, and instead of trying to fix it, claim apathy and just contribute. ie: "Fuck younger kids."

You're the reason they have the mouths that you're complaining about, friend.

  • Well said

  • I agree i mean alot of kids these days have the same language plus why would a kid go look on a song like that for comments? (BTW i like the song :D)

  • Such a great band.

Too bad they broke up, I wonder if Cody would be willing to perform it live with the new band he made... maybe =]

  • What is Cody's new bandd??

  • wait, new band?

    what? what?

  • hah i have no idea, thats why i asked. i'm hoping its not a rumor.

  • I love as cities burn! :(

    I miss them!

  • @greg on page 6. Switchfoot went mainstream because they wanted to reach more lives, which i think was stupid because it limits to what song could be about . The pastor at my church, his sister is the manager of them.

  • <3333

  • Quite the controversy going down below, oh my..

    Oh well, great song!

  • I like this song so much because after his dad left says that he still loves him! that takes a lot of love.. If my dad left me, man I would be hating him with every thing I got.. Only God could give us that kinda love

  • great song. :D

  • oh my god. commenting on youtube is for the specific video. either say you dont like the song/video or that you love it. if you wanna bitch about other peoples comments, blog it on myspace or some shit. so shut the fuck up for all you pussys just talking about other peoples comments....... as for me i love this song.

  • I don't mean to be rude or anything. But didn't you just do it yourself now?

Also: I've listened to come now sleep for a while. So I thought I might hear something from their other albums. It's nice :3

  • But if you think about it you just did too. But hey, then I did too. So it really doesn't matter. Just ignore the douche bags. Sweet ass band though.

  • POWERFUL lyrics

  • sick song
