  • Daniel Day-Lewis theatre and cinema genious

  • the beard & mustache work for him

  • a true man ... great actor and awesome man so not full of shit ...respect .

  • this man is a true artist, perhaps a genius. much respect.

  • His personality and way of talking reminds me of George Harrison for some reason. I know they're completely different types of artist but they're both extremely talented so they aren't completely removed from one another.

  • Thanks Jane.. Really piping in with something important there. Daniel Day is reaching the point of being prophetic and Jane Fonda comes in with her high pitched voice.... "You should pay Castro!..".. Wow.. Wow...

  • I would like to drink a beer with Daniel Day Lewis.

  • Of course Jane Fonda brings up Castro. Of course.

  • Daniel Plainview @ 0:35!

  • Remarkable man.

  • greatest actor ever

  • Daniel Day-Lewis shouldn't have to sit next to the talentless bitch bag that is Jo Brand -_-

  • He is such a good actor that he is almost discomforting to watch because of all of the scary/powerful/intense characters he's played. it's like you know what his mind is capable. His characters are so different from eachother... probably the only actor that NEVER plays himself

  • @majudua exactly

  • tbh im finding it hard to think of a better actor, in terms of providing a powerful and convincing role. genius actor

  • daniel day lewis has to be the best british actor going maybe only michael caine is better.

  • @woody8878 You joking about Michael Caine? I love Michael Caine but Michael Caine is the same in every film he is in Day Lewis is a whole different level

  • he comes with realness

  • O M G , i think he has parkison disease

    GOD SAVE HIM.

  • I really admire DDL because of his total lack of pretense about his profession, unlike those American ego maniacs like Sean Penn who thinks they are God's gift to the world and that every human being hangs on their every world, especially when it comes to politics. DDL is a breath of fresh air. What a wonderfully genuine guy.

  • THIS MAN IS DEPRESSED AND UNCHALLENGED.

  • Guys Parkinson is the old man, he is one of Englands biggest interviewers.

  • jeez i feel stupid was i only the only one who thought he was talking about parkinsons disease

  • @welcometotheshack retard

  • @evilgeniusluke nahh bro

  • @welcometotheshack yes you twat

  • @evilgeniusluke nahh bro

  • DDL's great as always. I don't get what Jane Fonda tells him. and what has Parkinson to do with it all?

  • Jane Fonda tried to speak to the king and got shut down.

  • I wish I could see the hole interview

  • @koalajones88 What? He's one of the most down to earth guys in the business.

  • ok...i don't know why but it's only know that i watched There Will Be Blood and I just had to know more about Day-Lewis. well, found out he is awesome and I propably going to be watching My left foot or maybe the one movie he did with Dicaprio.... He was terrifc in There Will Be Blood

  • Amazing actor, without intending to be rude, has Daniel had his nose broken?

  • @bobdy9988 Leo broke it in a fight scene in "Gangs From New York"

  • @MrCrim123

Not true. Leo did not. DDL broke it a couple times while he was training for the film the Boxer and then broke it again on a dummy that was a fill-in for Leo during the head-butting scene in Gangs of New York ( I guess he thought the sand-filled head on the dummy wouldn't break his nose when he slammed into it). Leo has explained this in an interview.

  • I think Jane must have daffodils stuck up her jacksie.

  • Comment removed

  • the most underrated actor ever..

  • @gingerbobful

lol....underrated? that man has two oscars.

  • @Gonko100 He is underrated, but that's a good thing.

  • FUCK JANE FONDA WHAT ARE YOU EVEN SAYING GET OUT

  • Jane Fonda almost ruined the video for me.

  • Wow, he's so much more down to earth than I expected!

  • what a fantastic man, he seems like someone you could have a great chat with over a beer at the pub, no bullshit like most of the other actors you see when they are interviewed.

  • Hey Proctor!

  • It's amazing that until only a few of years ago I actually thought he was Irish because I had only seen him in the films My Left Foot and In The Name Of The Father haha call me stupid but it really does illustrate how good an actor he is!

  • @hellraiser917 Well , he was born in London but has Dual Citizenship in London and Dublin , is of Irish Descent and in Later Interviews , his English Accent has become Pure Irish !

  • Such a lovely and polite man. So different to the characters he plays in films!

  • Since when is saying someone looks like Castro a compliment? smh

  • @crulio well he did say that castro was some lad and so he is.

  • I don't give a two penny fuck about your moral corundrum you meat headed shit shack

  • One of the best English/irish actors out there.

  • Epic beard 101 with Daniel Day-Lewis!

  • @koalajones88 Come on now, he'd only be a pretentious ass if he wasn't giving the kind of performances he gives. He's almost in a class of his own at the moment. Pretentious means thinking you're greater than you actually are. I think he shows some humility here, he admits he what does isn't normal work.

  • @koalajones88 Better than being an annoying troll on the internet.

  • J. Ross or this. Mmmmm.

  • merchant ships sent me here

  • @koalajones88

He is talking about how absurd his job is. That is the least pretentious thing an actor can do.

  • @koalajones88 pretentious? Check the meaning of that word again. Daniel Day Lewis is better than you, by default.

  • Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the greatest actors ever to live imho. He is my favorite actor, and I never really knew much about him until I saw thge movie "In the Name of My Father". After that movie I learned a little about him. His performance in "Gangs of New York" was one of the best acting performances, if not the best imho, that I've ever seen.

  • @3:15 Shut up Jane Fonda

  • @acehole7 Well, could you tell me what she said he should play? I'm hearing "cass crow"...obviously I'm hearing wrong ;)

  • Daniel Day Lewis -- Cool

    Michael Parkinson -- Uncool

  • he is the best actor i have ever seen. he actually transforms into the characters

    .

  • @cinema0fanboy dont forget John Proctor

  • literally such an incredible man. truly inspirational.

  • Whats a talented man

  • Fuck, he can grow the most EPIC facial hair.

  • @MeinKleinTier WOW TAHTS SO FUCKING FUNNY

  • power of self delusion

  • @Davidsondaini anglo-irish

  • i love this guy, i dont know any hollywood actors besides Zack Galifinakis who would come on a talk show looking like a complete hobo.

  • watch my left foot or gangs of new York or there will be blood and then compare him to real life

  • best British actor ever

  • OMG ive never seen him in an interview

just seeing how he is in real life has helped me gain a greater understanding of how preciouse his performance really is. astonishing

  • @10TJ10 have you watched the rest of the other interviews on here?

  • @LastlyMore no which ones?

  • He sounds abit scouse, like George Harrison or something.

    Weird

  • @mainadapter I think it's an affected Irish lilt, because he lives in Ireland and does seem a bit obsessed with the place.

  • Daniel Day Lewis' glare at Jane Fonda says so much about what he thinks of her.

  • why did the bitch feel the need to call him castro?, do i smell a antenion whore?

  • @kristian9010 I thought she said 'casserole' and I was confused. So she said CASTRO. Perhaps I am going deaf?

  • @AcademyAwardsPerson No, you're fine, I thought that too aha XD

  • hes half irish. think his father was irish and mother english

  • god i love him!!

  • I loved how he just totally made Jane Fonda look like an ass.

  • Impressive beard. Respect.

  • Why on Earth is there an argument going on about his nationality? By parenthood alone he's half-English and half-Irish but he was born in England so some might call him completely English. His mum's family also has Eastern European roots. So, in fairness, he's a bit of mongrel as many of us are if you were to trace back our heritage. His nationality is irrelevant, the only thing people should be saying on this video is what an absolute marvel of an actor he is.

  • @LiamCrowley1990 HAve to agree one hundred per cent Liam , take Phill Lynott born in England to a Irish mother and Afro-Guyanese Father. Some poeple say his is Irish some say he was English who really cares what we do know is he was a legend and so is Daniel - Day - Lewis, one of the great actors of his generation.

  • I dont think a comment with 'LOL' written in it should be allowed to gain popularity.

  • why do irish try to claim everything lol hes english! but has both british and irish citizenship!

    anyway class actor

  • I simply love this man as an actor and he is so insanely atractive and passionate!

He is Irish by the way!!

  • I simply love this man as an actor and he is so insanely atractive and passionate!

  • he's out of character....noooooooooooo! He doesn't even sound like the butcher. He's british! nnoooooooooooooo

  • So brilliant and beatiful......

  • I just recently got into him, Daniel is one of the greatest actors I know...I simply love his work.

  • @LucidDream go back and start with his early works they are brill. Just ignore his SE London accent in My Beautiful Laundrette, it is terrible considering that is where he grew up!!

  • fantastic brilliant flawless actor second only to di nero

  • That Castro comment was spot on.

  • Sounds like John Lennon.

  • Of all teh actors in all the world... he is simply the greastest. If he wasn't so anti media and anti showbusiness (not a bad thing) then the world would recognise him as so.

  • the man is a genius

  • He remind's me of Ed O'Brien, from Radiohead.

  • What's the Laurence Olivier quote???

  • @S2Cents Parkinson (the interviewer) actually says it; it was "Why don't you try acting?". Dustin Hoffman was having difficulty doing a certain scene (I forget in which film) b/c he couldn't feel what his character was feeling. "Why don't you try acting?" was Olivier's response. The comment famously contrasts two different approaches to acting, the "feel the part" approach and the more classical approach of using external techniques (such as adopting facial expressions) favoured by Olivier.

  • @Rev1913Rev1916 -fascinating-.

  • @Rev1913Rev1916 Hoffman was method acting and didn't shower or sleep for 3 days during shooting... that's why olivier said 'why don't you try acting'

  • @steph4theoc I almost used the phrase "method acting" in my last post but thought not everyone would know what it was, so I chose "feeling the part" instead, b/c that's what method acting is rooted in -- putting oneself in situations that call forth the emotions of the role. Thanks for the additional info about not showering/sleeping, I didn't know the exact circumstances involved here.

  • He's going to play Lincoln. Looking forward to seeing that.

  • @S2Cents holy shit thats perfect.hes the only british acor that can be mistaken for american if he wanted too

  • Comment removed

  • jasus always thought he was irish

  • @libertycaps666 he is, half irish half jewish, raised in england

  • @magua4 Who isnt jewish and have a few oscars in Hollywood?

  • i understood everything the man interviewing him didn't. I could tell he was puzzled and just like heh??

  • @ublec15 He wasn't at all. That's Parkinson, he's a living legend in Britain haha.

  • I understood every word he said.

  • Lol I didn't know he was British!

  • I'm a Social Conservative, and my favorite actor of all time is this man right here. After hearing how he so eloquently stifled Jane Fonda at the end, I got chills up my spine.

BRAVO MR. LEWIS! Down with COMMUNISM!

  • You can so tell he did this interview somewhere close to the time he did the bill the butcher role.. just the way he's acting. It's so fucked up how good he is. He literally becomes the character

  • Only guys that could rival him are Benicio Del Toro and Sean Penn. Fanboys please don't mention Dicaprio because we've all seen GONY and DDL blew him out the water.

  • he's just seems like such a nice man. Completely grounded, and utterly, incredibly talented.

  • I'm no COD fag but he kinda looks like Capt. Price

  • @pyroman645 HAHAHAHA

Two of my favorite things: COD and the DDL.

  • his next role should be a man who does cartwheels with a bunch of daffodils stuck up his jacksey

  • "You should play Castro."

    A genius among idiots

  • @ewanmcfadyen what is that ladys name? it couldnt have epitomized the discrepency between a man like that and the slew of un-talented hollywood actors....here is this genius of an actor talking about the very idea of acting and how bizarre it is, and mrs. airhead chimes in with a stupid comment about playing fidel....almost brilliant in a way

  • @ewanmcfadyen Of course, Jane Fonda, the idiot, has to throw her two cents in. What a piece of work that broad is.

  • There goes "Hanoi Jane" again with her idolization of people and governments that are really horrible people. Why is it a compliment to resemble Castro? He was not a nice guy? Oh, well......once a bubble head.....always a bubble head.

  • There goes "Hanoi Jane" again with her idolization of people and governments that are really horrible people. Why is it a compliment to resemble Castro? He was not a nice guy? Oh, well......once a bubble head.....always a bubble head.

  • he's just awesome! and so honest.....

  • parkisons?

  • My friend just said, "Daniel D Lewis has the voice of an English Jim Morrison

    Anybody else agree?!

  • Who is that moron of a woman? "You should play Castro?" Great contribution to the conversation...

  • ....Day-Lewis as Castro...that would make for a killer biopic

  • As an englishman i like to think he's one of us, but he's obviously an honourary irishman too.

  • Greatest actor with a great philosophy of acting. Brando, De Niro and then it has to be DDL

  • Ewan McGregor is Scottish, NovaScotia - Daniel Day Lewis is English. Their accents are quite different, they're possibly both very soft spoken, though? Is that what you meant?

  • I love artists like this. They speak so above everyone's head. Watching the puzzlement of the interviewer is priceless. And then after all of that this stupid bitch about Castro. LOL

  • What a DOLL!!! AND a fine fine actor! True to his lovely wife too! ♥

  • His voice reminds me a little of Ewan McGregor's. I'd be an Anglophile just because of the way these guys talk... So beautifully, eloquently, without being pompous.

  • Slightest hint of Daniel Plainview at 0:35

  • @CaliforniaJoker1 agreed

  • @CaliforniaJoker1 holy fuck lmao

  • Possibly the best actor of all time.

  • i love his irish twang and his laugh

  • what an actor .. what a guy

  • I lost the game about 6 times watching this :(

  • I think he thinks it's a game!

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

  • "He's some lad."

Could have quite easily been describing himself there. :o)

  • The next smart thing Jane Fonda says is going to be her first...

  • Jane Fonda is an Asshole.

  • he should play castro

  • If you cut the mustache you've got yourself Abe Lincoln!. Good Job Spielberg, hope the movie is good.

  • @Vash1286

Poor Daniel---people actually think he resembles the particularly ugly Abraham LIncoln. Lincoln with his leather-like skin, lopsided face and large ears.

  • @ShannonSam1 if abe was handsome and British, he would look like DDL lol.

  • @Vash1286

I was a little hard on old Abe. I recently read a web-page about LIncoln and his looks. There were several quotes from people who knew him....Interestingly most of them stated that when Lincoln wasn't going through his usual melancholy, he was vibrant and had an extremely expressive face and nice smile...they often said that he ceased to be ugly and became not so unhandsome when he was truely happy or when he was telling a joke. He seemed like a very charismatic man.

  • Never seen such a self indulgent prick...thank god he is off our screen!

  • @rjun67

A self-indulgent actor--IMAGINE THAT? At least he is honest about it. I like him.

  • MAN CRUSH CONFIRMED.

  • With the beard he looks like Jeremy Irons

  • I heard he has been cast for the leading role in a film about Lincoln. I'm not american but i know it will be stunning.

  • @nofx6678 really?! He would be fantastic as Lincoln!!

  • Daniel is a gentleman. One of the greatest actors of today, truly Inspirational.

  • one of the best artists in this profession.

  • one of the best artists in this profession

  • 3:11

And that's his next oscar, mark my words. Lol.

  • 12 assholes

  • U know what the mark of a real great actor is....He will give the most bore u to ur death interviews.....Eg: DD lewis, Al pacino...
