His personality and way of talking reminds me of George Harrison for some reason. I know they're completely different types of artist but they're both extremely talented so they aren't completely removed from one another.
Thanks Jane.. Really piping in with something important there. Daniel Day is reaching the point of being prophetic and Jane Fonda comes in with her high pitched voice.... "You should pay Castro!..".. Wow.. Wow...
Parkinson's is scum just a posh middle class asshole .here in yorkshish we hate him he makes out he is Yorkshire he as not lived here for over 50 years . he lives with all the rest of the twats in London and he as a son called tristram what Yorkshire man would call his son that
He is such a good actor that he is almost discomforting to watch because of all of the scary/powerful/intense characters he's played. it's like you know what his mind is capable. His characters are so different from eachother... probably the only actor that NEVER plays himself
@woody8878 You joking about Michael Caine? I love Michael Caine but Michael Caine is the same in every film he is in Day Lewis is a whole different level
I really admire DDL because of his total lack of pretense about his profession, unlike those American ego maniacs like Sean Penn who thinks they are God's gift to the world and that every human being hangs on their every world, especially when it comes to politics. DDL is a breath of fresh air. What a wonderfully genuine guy.
ok...i don't know why but it's only know that i watched There Will Be Blood and I just had to know more about Day-Lewis. well, found out he is awesome and I propably going to be watching My left foot or maybe the one movie he did with Dicaprio.... He was terrifc in There Will Be Blood
Not true. Leo did not. DDL broke it a couple times while he was training for the film the Boxer and then broke it again on a dummy that was a fill-in for Leo during the head-butting scene in Gangs of New York ( I guess he thought the sand-filled head on the dummy wouldn't break his nose when he slammed into it). Leo has explained this in an interview.
what a fantastic man, he seems like someone you could have a great chat with over a beer at the pub, no bullshit like most of the other actors you see when they are interviewed.
It's amazing that until only a few of years ago I actually thought he was Irish because I had only seen him in the films My Left Foot and In The Name Of The Father haha call me stupid but it really does illustrate how good an actor he is!
@hellraiser917 Well , he was born in London but has Dual Citizenship in London and Dublin , is of Irish Descent and in Later Interviews , his English Accent has become Pure Irish !
@koalajones88 Come on now, he'd only be a pretentious ass if he wasn't giving the kind of performances he gives. He's almost in a class of his own at the moment. Pretentious means thinking you're greater than you actually are. I think he shows some humility here, he admits he what does isn't normal work.
Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the greatest actors ever to live imho. He is my favorite actor, and I never really knew much about him until I saw thge movie "In the Name of My Father". After that movie I learned a little about him. His performance in "Gangs of New York" was one of the best acting performances, if not the best imho, that I've ever seen.
Why on Earth is there an argument going on about his nationality? By parenthood alone he's half-English and half-Irish but he was born in England so some might call him completely English. His mum's family also has Eastern European roots. So, in fairness, he's a bit of mongrel as many of us are if you were to trace back our heritage. His nationality is irrelevant, the only thing people should be saying on this video is what an absolute marvel of an actor he is.
@LiamCrowley1990 HAve to agree one hundred per cent Liam , take Phill Lynott born in England to a Irish mother and Afro-Guyanese Father. Some poeple say his is Irish some say he was English who really cares what we do know is he was a legend and so is Daniel - Day - Lewis, one of the great actors of his generation.

@Rollinsstomp82 the old vic theatre in bristol isn't classical training, don't assume that just cos i compared him to Laurance olivier, FYI he is from Greenwich and my husband's granny was his primary school teacher.
Of all teh actors in all the world... he is simply the greastest. If he wasn't so anti media and anti showbusiness (not a bad thing) then the world would recognise him as so.
@S2Cents Parkinson (the interviewer) actually says it; it was "Why don't you try acting?". Dustin Hoffman was having difficulty doing a certain scene (I forget in which film) b/c he couldn't feel what his character was feeling. "Why don't you try acting?" was Olivier's response. The comment famously contrasts two different approaches to acting, the "feel the part" approach and the more classical approach of using external techniques (such as adopting facial expressions) favoured by Olivier.
@steph4theoc I almost used the phrase "method acting" in my last post but thought not everyone would know what it was, so I chose "feeling the part" instead, b/c that's what method acting is rooted in -- putting oneself in situations that call forth the emotions of the role. Thanks for the additional info about not showering/sleeping, I didn't know the exact circumstances involved here.

There were several quotes from people who knew him....Interestingly most of them stated that when Lincoln wasn't going through his usual melancholy, he was vibrant and had an extremely expressive face and nice smile...they often said that he ceased to be ugly and became not so unhandsome when he was truely happy or when he was telling a joke. He seemed like a very charismatic man.

A self-indulgent actor--IMAGINE THAT? At least he is honest about it. I like him.
