I am going to go test drive 2007 SLT this afternoon, this is the only review that this guy was negative on EVERYTHING. May i point out you are pointing out and being negative on things that isnt a problem, like the rear door dont go up high enough. As far as gas mileage compare it to a GMC or Chevy mid size SUV, this gets better gas mileage. I have done lots of read ups and watched a lot of videos on reviews on this nitro, All great reviews except for this one, sorry but your out numbered bud.
The only reason I am looking to buy one of these is BECAUSE it is TRUCK BASED and not some peace of crap car or glorified station wagon. Which is the same reason I own Chevy Astros and GMC Safaris , wish they had never quit making them. The Nitro is one of the few truck based SUVs left and THAT is a BIG PLUS in my honest opinion.

I have had mine since '07, 60k miles on it, running stronger every day (did have to put thicker oil in it since the beginning though), after looking at this "hateview", I compared it to my parent's Altima, and a friend's L4 outlander, you know, as this guy would say. They are no comparison against the nitro, not in torque, not in room, not in looks. My humble opinion is that this guy is a douche (sorry).
i was looking for a damn review on a workout supplement and this is what i end up watchin, and im a Mopar guy so this was extra shitty. on top of all that this guy is a DUMBASS.
Having watched this 'review', thought the Nitro was going to cramped, noisy and unrefined. However, the 3.7 is smooth and quiet and the Nitro itself rides like a Buick. Trading back to a SUV because you can't travel or be safe in a Focus.
I just feel like travelling in this automobile; it has nothing to with the fact I look LAME travelling in a mini van or COOL. I believe strongly I would very much enjoy travelling this car.

I actually love my 2007 dodge nitro. Its pretty big inside I have to disagree with alot of what this guy said. You pay what you get for. If you do not want cheap plastic etc etc go buy your self a luxury SUV.
This car is honestly one of the worst I have ever driven! I just rented one recently, didn't even have cruise control! Drove terribly, lots of wind noise, etc...
I don't think a lot of reviewers like this car, and let face it that you don't see a lot people actually buying this car. They are plenty of other SUV out there. You could get Honda Pilot, Ford Edge, Toyota Highlander, Nissan Murano, and they are better with ride, handling, tow capacity, and fuel economy. I hope Chrysler did major refreshed on the Nitro.
Not a good review -- but this is more the result of a bad attitude. I like truck based SUVs -- more fun and better 4wd -- basically, if you like rugged the Nitro is a good pick. I have owned a lot of cars and a basic Nitro is a lot nicer than, say, a Sonata -- not as many creature comforts, but I like a truck feel. This guy acts like going on and off of 4wd is such a bad thing ...
That thing would compete more with the Nissan Xtrail - Definitely not the Nissan Xterra. I'd be fearful to take this Nitro to the offroad places where we've taken our Xterra!

I like the Nitro. This guy is very biased against it. It is comfortable, has great safety ratings and is fun to drive. If people wanted a high mileage vehicle they would have purchased a hybrid of some sort.

I sold my old Cherokee and bought a used Nitro about a year ago. He is right about it being a little small compared to the overall size. But the seats are comfortable, the air and heater are excellent. The power is good, traction is good. Everything works well. Used nitros are cheap and my 6 speed manual always gives me 20 mpg in city driving and 25 mpg on hwy. Not bad for an old fashion suv.
The Nitro is a logical choice if you need a mid size SUV if you are doing alot of trailer towing. I have a boat and trailer that weigh 3500 lbs. The Nitro can pull 5000 lbs. Most other SUV's that size can only tow 3500 lbs. I have also been told that full time 4 wheel drive systems wear out tires quicker(don't know for sure). I have a Pontiac G6. If I did not drive 30,000 miles per year I would consider an SUV.
This review is rather flawed and biased. He should have compared the gas mileage to other mid-size SUVs with a V-6. The Nitro is competitive when compared to similar vehicles and not just anything on the road. The Nitro is also capable of 16/22 gas mileage, depending on the model. What it boils down to is "what type of vehicle do you need". Do you commute a lot? Do you plan on towing? Questions like that will determine if this vehicle is right for you.
this guy doing this review is def a tool bad, and doesnt know what the hell he is talking about. The 4wd system does the same thing everyother one does, they all bind on dry pavement and will make the vehicle feel like its chomping the ground when turning so there's one thing he has no clue about. Trucks dont belong in 4wd when its not required to be...lol what a douche bag. And comparing this to a mini van? Come on, id way rather have my Nitro R/T than a Caravan. Never had any issues either
this guy is wrong about it ! my dodge nitro sxt when in 4wd i was able to go through 27 inches of snow ! with no problem! the road wasnt plowed and it was the only truck on the block to get through the snow . also i put a little work in mine and it turns heads
obviously this guy doesn't know the difference between his ass and and a whole in the ground. Lets see him take his car based SUV off road and see how well it does. When I mean off road, I just don't mean a gravel road, I'm talking about mud, terrace rows, and ruts and ditches. I feel safer in a full frame, "truck style" vehicle if an accident was to occur, especially side impacts. I have seen sub frame or unibody cars and SUVs split almost in half when hit from the side.

I Agee this guy is negative. Bad review! I just bought one for my family. And it's great so far. I will never drive a mini van either. One thing I can say is that this car looks small from outside but there really is room on the inside.
My father and I test drove this car today at our local chysler dealership, and after driving it myself i must say this is one of the finest suvs. Yes it doesnt get good fuel economy. but I drive a 2010 subaru forester and i hate it. the 2.4 does nothing! While the v6 nitro has just the right amount of power. This guy in the video is a tree hugging prius lover. Fuel eco is not everything that matters in a car.

I don't like the styling and the Grey Interior... May be a good car but it surely looks cheap, and the styling will cause you to lose it in the car park, especially with that grey color. Sorry guys... Don't flame me but to be honest i do like My Kia Borrego better. Better V6 mileage, diverse interior, much more space and seven seats and much more bang for the buck.

this guy is not a true american, i happen to think the nitro is the best suv out there and any nitro owner would agree. he failed to mention the great handling, excellent power, traction control, side air bags, and all the other great quality's the nitro has. this guy is very biased.

I actually, as a long-time Mopar fan, could not agree more with this review. ESPECIALLY the last sentence. People really do need to get over themselves and Chrysler/Dodge has a line of (mostly) well regarded minivans they can sell you.
Also, the Nitro has always been a pointless SUV that I would imagine only exists to amortize costs of the Jeep Liberty. Chrysler should've just spent the money they did on this in making the Journey a really kick ass profit-maker instead of a half-baked CUV.

@LarryDavidFreak That car is a gas burner machine with a lot of power but very inefficent for the engine displacement. It doesnt even have Low Range Transfer Case. It can never be better than a Vitara (FYI, Vitara DOES HAVE low range transfer case for real off roading), and its 2.4ltr 4 cyl is more than enough. Anyway, you can keep driving your massively inefficient American SUV with low resale value and quality like a real redneck, while other people drive something more reliable and efficient!

why do they keep putting push button or twist knobs for the 4wd that sucks ass if something breaks. they shoul just keep the old n handy hand lever. which is just as easy to use and doesnt have to use electronics and vacume hoses. that means less chance of it breaking or coming loose

I have had a real bad relationship with dodge because every model ive had from my avenger to my nitro was a piece of shit. I have never driven the R/T but I suppose the only thing that would better in it would be the torque curve from the larger displacement, but that is not nearly enough to get me to buy another one of these piles. The saddest part is that this thing was made in michigan my home state. Really hurts me deep down to know that.

DONT!!!!! buy it. This thing has one of the worst service history records out of any car from an american maker in recent history. Go to any Dodge Nitro forum and read about the nightmares people have with this car because of its poor electronics build quality and the underpowered based engline mated to a none responsive "old ford like" jumpy transmission. And this thing clings for dear life to top gear. The only way you can drive it comfortably is over 60 miles an hour IMO.
Another thing I'll add to fix useless Joe's review of this car: This isn't a luxury vehicle...it's meant for UTILITY. It might be hard plastic but i'll bet it is durable and easy to clean up. Hop in a Toyota RAV4 or Honda CRV and you'll find the same hard plastics, but LESS utility, less practicality, and let's face it the Honda CRV is on the ugly side.

Wow..... what RAV4 have you been driving in? I owned one of these cars which I bought in Japan (Im a very Patriotic American and OIF vet) and it was another instance of dodge garbage. I had 3 Chryslers in my life and they were all shit, a dodge avenger worthless after 120,000, a dodge stratus which was my GOV car when I was a recruiter 33,000 miles and was usless, damn thing would stall when you put it reverse because all the 2.7 were mated to a shit transmission with torque converter problems.
Not to mention that this car was built off of the old Liberty platform and still uses a shit 3.7 210 horsepower prehistoric engine. My 07 Nitro broke 6 times the first year I owned and three times it was for the same problem (driving side power window mirror door cluster would not work). Furthermore this car has a shit torque converter and bad gearing, the fucking thing would shake going up hill because it was geared to run a lower RPMS while at 40-60 MPH and didn't have wide enough power band.

It's not not about power to spare, it's about ample power, and its about trying to make it up a hill without having the car shake or slamming your foot down on the pedal to get the car to downshift so you don't decelerate. Truck based SUVs are made for a reason sure a CRV may get 6 more mpg but try loading two kids a dog camping gear and a pop up trailer or a boat and go camping. It will be the last thing that little Honda does. A Dodge nitro that has a 5000 lbs towing capacity. Most car based suvs are 2000 Most minivans are 3500 the smallest useable pop up trailer is 3000 empty. You still have kids dog food clothes bikes... You do the math

I just feel like travelling in this automobile; it has nothing to with the fact I look LAME travelling in a mini van or COOL. I believe strongly I would very much enjoy travelling this car.
Sir, why won't you talk about D beef matters such as driving dynamics, or the reliability or the steering weight & so on. There's light to talk about an automobile e.g. cargo space, high tech features, etc.

I actually love my 2007 dodge nitro. Its pretty big inside I have to disagree with alot of what this guy said. You pay what you get for. If you do not want cheap plastic etc etc go buy your self a luxury SUV.

I don't think a lot of reviewers like this car, and let face it that you don't see a lot people actually buying this car. They are plenty of other SUV out there. You could get Honda Pilot, Ford Edge, Toyota Highlander, Nissan Murano, and they are better with ride, handling, tow capacity, and fuel economy. I hope Chrysler did major refreshed on the Nitro.

Not a good review -- but this is more the result of a bad attitude. I like truck based SUVs -- more fun and better 4wd -- basically, if you like rugged the Nitro is a good pick. I have owned a lot of cars and a basic Nitro is a lot nicer than, say, a Sonata -- not as many creature comforts, but I like a truck feel. This guy acts like going on and off of 4wd is such a bad thing ...

I like the Nitro. This guy is very biased against it. It is comfortable, has great safety ratings and is fun to drive. If people wanted a high mileage vehicle they would have purchased a hybrid of some sort.

I sold my old Cherokee and bought a used Nitro about a year ago. He is right about it being a little small compared to the overall size. But the seats are comfortable, the air and heater are excellent. The power is good, traction is good. Everything works well. Used nitros are cheap and my 6 speed manual always gives me 20 mpg in city driving and 25 mpg on hwy. Not bad for an old fashion suv.

The Nitro is a logical choice if you need a mid size SUV if you are doing alot of trailer towing. I have a boat and trailer that weigh 3500 lbs. The Nitro can pull 5000 lbs. Most other SUV's that size can only tow 3500 lbs. I have also been told that full time 4 wheel drive systems wear out tires quicker(don't know for sure). I have a Pontiac G6. If I did not drive 30,000 miles per year I would consider an SUV.

This review is rather flawed and biased. He should have compared the gas mileage to other mid-size SUVs with a V-6. The Nitro is competitive when compared to similar vehicles and not just anything on the road. The Nitro is also capable of 16/22 gas mileage, depending on the model. What it boils down to is "what type of vehicle do you need". Do you commute a lot? Do you plan on towing? Questions like that will determine if this vehicle is right for you.

The 4wd system does the same thing everyother one does, they all bind on dry pavement and will make the vehicle feel like its chomping the ground when turning so there's one thing he has no clue about. Trucks dont belong in 4wd when its not required to be...lol what a douche bag. And comparing this to a mini van? Come on, id way rather have my Nitro R/T than a Caravan. Never had any issues either

this guy is wrong about it ! my dodge nitro sxt when in 4wd i was able to go through 27 inches of snow ! with no problem! the road wasnt plowed and it was the only truck on the block to get through the snow . also i put a little work in mine and it turns heads

obviously this guy doesn't know the difference between his ass and and a whole in the ground. Lets see him take his car based SUV off road and see how well it does. When I mean off road, I just don't mean a gravel road, I'm talking about mud, terrace rows, and ruts and ditches. I feel safer in a full frame, "truck style" vehicle if an accident was to occur, especially side impacts. I have seen sub frame or unibody cars and SUVs split almost in half when hit from the side.

My father and I test drove this car today at our local chysler dealership, and after driving it myself i must say this is one of the finest suvs. Yes it doesnt get good fuel economy. but I drive a 2010 subaru forester and i hate it. the 2.4 does nothing! While the v6 nitro has just the right amount of power. This guy in the video is a tree hugging prius lover. Fuel eco is not everything that matters in a car.

I don't like the styling and the Grey Interior... May be a good car but it surely looks cheap, and the styling will cause you to lose it in the car park, especially with that grey color. Sorry guys... Don't flame me but to be honest i do like My Kia Borrego better. Better V6 mileage, diverse interior, much more space and seven seats and much more bang for the buck.

Surprisingly it is a tow vehicle and can easily tow 5,000 lbs or a full sized truck or SUV.

the bottom line is, this review is just ONE guy's opinion. he's entitled to it but one should be smart enough to think for his or herself and come to their own conclusions about the Nitro and ANYTHING else for that matter. one's impression of the Nitro shouldn't be swayed by this EXTREMELY biased and one-sided "review".

I actually, as a long-time Mopar fan, could not agree more with this review. ESPECIALLY the last sentence. People really do need to get over themselves and Chrysler/Dodge has a line of (mostly) well regarded minivans they can sell you.
Also, the Nitro has always been a pointless SUV that I would imagine only exists to amortize costs of the Jeep Liberty. Chrysler should've just spent the money they did on this in making the Journey a really kick ass profit-maker instead of a half-baked CUV.

If you didn't already know the grand vitara is made by gm, it is based on the chevy traverse, gmc acaidia, saturn outlook, and buick enclave. it is obvious just by looking inside. the tiguan is the uglyest car on the market. however i think subaru makes a good car. im just saying that this review is extremely biased and the nitro is a great all around suv. ask anyone who owns one

@LarryDavidFreak Well, FYI, GM got just the brand from Suzuki, thank God they are not together anymore. and BTW, Vitara is a unique car, there is no other car in the market under the same segment with body-on-frame chassis. If they were the same chassis, then why they are not as capable Off Road as the Vitara?. Think about it.
I cant support something that is not improving accordingly with market demands, at least Ford and GMC are making well made and efficient SUVs.

@LarryDavidFreak That car is a gas burner machine with a lot of power but very inefficent for the engine displacement. It doesnt even have Low Range Transfer Case. It can never be better than a Vitara (FYI, Vitara DOES HAVE low range transfer case for real off roading), and its 2.4ltr 4 cyl is more than enough. Anyway, you can keep driving your massively inefficient American SUV with low resale value and quality like a real redneck, while other people drive something more reliable and efficient!

Nissan Frontier Diesel 4cyl, and many others....all of them with less than 200 HP, they can do amazing things off road. Use the internet to learn, not to hate.

this isn't as bad as you make it...i own a nitro R/T its great on gas.... you must be taller then the truck for your head to hit it.... your just putting this truck down... you must of had a bad relation with dodge maybe fired from a job.... yes it is cooler then a van!!!!!

I have had a real bad relationship with dodge because every model ive had from my avenger to my nitro was a piece of shit. I have never driven the R/T but I suppose the only thing that would better in it would be the torque curve from the larger displacement, but that is not nearly enough to get me to buy another one of these piles. The saddest part is that this thing was made in michigan my home state. Really hurts me deep down to know that.

DONT!!!!! buy it. This thing has one of the worst service history records out of any car from an american maker in recent history. Go to any Dodge Nitro forum and read about the nightmares people have with this car because of its poor electronics build quality and the underpowered based engline mated to a none responsive "old ford like" jumpy transmission. And this thing clings for dear life to top gear. The only way you can drive it comfortably is over 60 miles an hour IMO.

Another thing I'll add to fix useless Joe's review of this car: This isn't a luxury vehicle...it's meant for UTILITY. It might be hard plastic but i'll bet it is durable and easy to clean up. Hop in a Toyota RAV4 or Honda CRV and you'll find the same hard plastics, but LESS utility, less practicality, and let's face it the Honda CRV is on the ugly side.
Dodge Nitro is a great vehicle for someone looking for utility and practicality with a little style on the side.

Wow..... what RAV4 have you been driving in? I owned one of these cars which I bought in Japan (Im a very Patriotic American and OIF vet) and it was another instance of dodge garbage. I had 3 Chryslers in my life and they were all shit, a dodge avenger worthless after 120,000, a dodge stratus which was my GOV car when I was a recruiter 33,000 miles and was usless, damn thing would stall when you put it reverse because all the 2.7 were mated to a shit transmission with torque converter problems.

Not to mention that this car was built off of the old Liberty platform and still uses a shit 3.7 210 horsepower prehistoric engine. My 07 Nitro broke 6 times the first year I owned and three times it was for the same problem (driving side power window mirror door cluster would not work). Furthermore this car has a shit torque converter and bad gearing, the fucking thing would shake going up hill because it was geared to run a lower RPMS while at 40-60 MPH and didn't have wide enough power band.

It's not not about power to spare, it's about ample power, and its about trying to make it up a hill without having the car shake or slamming your foot down on the pedal to get the car to downshift so you don't decelerate. Yeah as a matter of fact I do own a car. 2 of them to be exact. And one happens to be an '08 corvette convertible. You bash a 3.7l SUV to not have power as if you want it to go 0 - 60 in 5 seconds and do the 1/4mi in 12 flat. I seriously doubt the car shakes on hills like you explain. Almost all people who bash cars (foreign or domestic) exaggerate about it. Secondly I am older than you and definitely more seasoned behind the wheel than you are.

Anyway you still don't know anything about cars, for example horse power to weight ratio which is horrible on the Nitro, also you obviously know nothing about the torque converter problems on this car. Truck based SUVs are made for a reason sure a CRV may get 6 more mpg but try loading two kids a dog camping gear and a pop up trailer or a boat and go camping. It will be the last thing that little Honda does. A Dodge nitro that has a 5000 lbs towing capacity. Most car based suvs are 2000 Most minivans are 3500 the smallest useable pop up trailer is 3000 empty. You still have kids dog food clothes bikes... You do the math

i have a bmw 1.16 2006 model. well, iam happy but it looks long in long trips like 100km away, it scks bigtime. i saw Nitros in the road..damn good looking..in 2008 i test drive it..well, it doesnt give the quality of a BMW but hey, this is another segment. nitro is safe, big, damn good looking...wat u say? i sell bmw 1.16 and get a nitro? iam married and we think for a baby so bmw 1 will be small anyway.

It would appear that way. However, as any reasonable person would agree, spelling "bigger" without a g is commonly referred to as a "typo." This is when someone who writes something knows how to spell the word, though misplaces letters or omits them completely. Forgetting periods, however, is not said "typo." In writing that is not done on the computer, one could expect that you would fail to recognize the proper punctuation of the abbreviation of "postscript."
