The man was the quintessential trumpet artist, bar none, but after the 50s he made peace with public demand and enjoyed life. The Counce Group was better than the Miles-Trane-Evans Quintet.. Land was the equal of his partner, Clifford. Butler was unreal on drums. Perkins the most amazing story of any jazz pianist, combining Errol and Clifford with a crippled left hand. And Jack was vital to the whole organism.
