@Wilson1592 I see your point but even the best mirrors in the world don't reflect 100% of the light that hits them and anything they don't reflect they will absorb, once the material inside the mirror starts to burn it's game over. I would hope the military has tested their lasers against possible countermeasures as simple as a mirror. Plus it's probably very difficult to get something like glass to stay attached to a missile during flight.

If russia had fieldable laser technology in the early 80's they wouldn't have lost the cold war...also this isn't a hoax but was recently shut down (airborn laser that is) as the system isn't viable since the aircraft would actually have to be in the air and in range of the missle before it leaves atmosphere. once a missile hits the just out of atmosphere stage of flight thats where the kinect kill satelites take over. System did work just not pheasible.

It´s been demonstrated already that such systems don´t work in a real combat scenario. The airborne laser project has been dropped, and the new missile defense shield that is due to be built in 2014 will not include any "laser cannons" either. Instead they will use SM-3 interceptors that will attempt to hit the missile while still in its second stage. Forget about intercepting ICBMs in their terminal phase.....

The bomb would not explode, the computer (communications, firing sequence, failsafe) would be destroyed by the exploding fuel tank.

but srsly, what exactly do you mean? f.e. there would be no (or only little) effects of the shockwave on ground, but the radiational damage and the fallout are being spread over a much bigger area, amongst other special characteristics of high-atmospheric nuke blasts. btw, this laser is NOT able to ignite a nuke before impact, it only makes it useless.
