This is unaccurate. "Soccer" started in Ancient China about 2000 years ago. Evidence even shows it. Europe and the West always pride themselves in inventing superior things. Many of the things we use today come from China.
God what is with you retards, can you not be bothered to spend 10 fucking seconds to look up the term online before spouting your ignorance all over the internet?
I mean the term soccer originated in fucking England to begin with. This shit isn't hard to look up
ok lets get something straight, SOCCER WITH A FOOT AND A BALL ORIGANATED IN CHINA! now the soccer/futbol as we know today origanated in england, with the rules and everything else with it
It's funny how the Yanks call it SOCCER and they show 'soccer' from the USA.. They think they are actually good... FUCK YOU, it's called FOOTBALL, and the USA SUCKS!
@diegomanya17, who cares what the name of the game is? Your bigotry is an embarassment, and your hatred of the world's only superpower shows your lack of understanding. Enjoy stereotyping 300 million people, while everyone else at least attempts to understand our fellow human beings. You Sir, have some serious issues to take care of. Thanks for the view :)

im an american and embarrassed that my country calls it soccer and the fact that we have someone trying to talk about the game as if he knows anything about it... guy has probably never experienced anything remotely close to understanding how the game can unite a nation and what it can mean for a country. probably why football isnt popular and gets no respect in our country...
@naniii99 The origin of football / soccer can be found in every corner of geography and history. The Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Ancient Greek, Persian, Viking, and many more played a ball game long before our era. The Chinese played "football" games date as far back as 3000 years ago. The Ancient Greeks and the Roman used football games to sharpen warriors for battle. In south and Central America a game called "Tlatchi" once flourished.
@TranThanhHai1 But it was in England that soccer / football really begin to take shape. It all started in 1863 in England, when two football association (association football and rugby football) split off on their different course. Therefore, the first Football Association was founded in England

why "soccer"? is called football (futbol) all over the world, USA wants to change the sport and even then, they won't like it. the most popular sport in the world does not need the USA.
@ReignzOfBrainz you don't care and neither do I, but the fact is the people in charge of the sport here in USA, refuse to call it football and they try to change some rules and the sports media keep calling it soccer, if, let's say England or France try to change the name or rules of baseball, in a world series, a lot of fans, here in USA, will protest that, I wouldn't care but some people would
We already have a football here so what's the point of calling two different sports the same thing? This whole conversation really doesn't matter because futbol/football/soccer isn't going to change because of what the U.S. says.
@ReignzOfBrainz I did not look it that way, there is not use to have two games with the same name, you are right and also the fact that nothing is going to change around the world because what the USA said (at least around football). good points, and I agree.
@ello951619 that was mi point, and my question was "why they call it soccer?" adding the fact that is called football all around the world, I'm mexican and I know how this game is played and I think should be called football everywere, but the other guy make a point because they have a football in the USA and make no sense to have two sport with the same name (at least in USA).
@yelowgizmo Actually it was called soccer even in Europe until the end of the 1970s. "Soccer" is derived from "association," as in "association football."
@TorreyGilday I grow up in Mexico, since I remember (the 60's and from my elders) it was called "futbol" in the world cup they, always, called football, even FIFA means: International Federation of Association Football, and it was created in 1904, like I said, they can called it soccer in USA because they already have a football but they can not make the world to follow, even more since they didn't even like it , but thank for the info I did not know soccer is derived from association
