  • You are so right! I jumped on the kinky curly and the natural product bandwagon and even though some people swear by kinky curly,it dried my hair out.knot today makes my hair crunchy.but other naturals might love it so i was over that hype.Next i tried the natural hair products,i tried natures gate shampoo and conditioner and it was terrible!! It dried my hair completely out!So now i'm just using stuff that i like,i like Aussie and Ultra Sheen and my hair is so soft now.i love grease in my hair.

  • Love this...........THANK YOU!

  • I like the part when you said "Natural hair is simple. It doesn't make you broke"

  • I know this video old but looking at ur hair makes me wanna hold on to my natural hair even tho I'm iching to get a perm.

  • As a mother with a household budget I am ashamed of my amazon purchases sometimes. I look back and think what a waste. I know what works now so I am going to stick to it!

  • Girl...I was that chi-chi and organic sister when I first started out. My first haul was $150. But...a light bulb went off when I caught myself obssessing over newest product review. Im now a year into the game and the best staple for my hair are the mixtures I hand mixed. I now live by K-I-S-S!

  • I enjoyed this...I'm newly natural-b/c was 10/15/11...but I have just been researching and trying things that work for me and my hair. I have truly enjoyed learning about my hair and watching how it reacts to certain things... shoot who wants to spend unecessary money on products that might and might not work...i agree with you completely..thanks for the video :)

  • Preach girl Preach!!! This knowledge can be applied to all areas of life!!

  • I know this is an old video, but I have to agree with you....Your the best....

  • well said! Ive been natural 2 yrs and that FIRST 1.6 yrs...I went 4 lots of things that someone praised as a HOLY GRAIL BUT in my defense I was a newbie. Until one day i said "stop!..what r u doing girl??". I came 2 the realization that its not that serious and alot of it was media hype & I was ALLOWING myself 2 be a victim of PJism! Once I found MY staples, I stopped looking! The Hair Industry is PREYING on ppl that r easily influenced and believe the first few testimonies they hear!

  • i am so glad i saw this video.

  • omg u r so right i hate when i get on here and these fools r pushing their HOLY OIL like please im really not trying to knock anyones hustle but i really think that they r just preying on the weak! the ppl that really just want their hair to blossom and thats not cool at all! Like i dont wanna threw shade but here we go BLACKONYX like go head and sale your oil sister but come on its not the reason y your hair is growing im sorry everybodys hair grows about 6 inches n a yr on average so stop it

  • When I had relaxed hair somewhere in the game I decided to cutback on buying products and found my mainstays, so when I became a natural the wisdom followed. I definitely felt the "product junky" returning back, but I've managed the urges to wanting to try everything. However I did try Kinky Kurly because of all the reviews. Some things I wish I can do a product swap (ugh), but you learn how to use the products you don't like maybe add a little oil or make up your own concoctions ect.

  • Tell me about it> I have already started :-). I've been natural for about a year and im trying to learn how to manage it.

  • I am a newly natural.. My mother did hair for many years, I SO understand what you mean about the bandwagons; THAT will make people lose thier hair. I use oliv oil, REGULAR Olive oil.. It works, and, it is cheap..

  • I gotta say this video hit the nail directly on the head. I have been natural for years but I've only been wearing my natural hair out- meaning no extentions- for a few weeks. Once I made the decision and started looking around for new products I was bombarded and wanted to try everything. I even dropped $70CAD on mixed chicks leave in only to find it didn't work at all for my hair. I'm falling back to my home made mayonaise and eggs conditioner and my olive oil mix. Cheap, and effective for me.

  • girl u look like the 80's and i mean that in a good way love the look and i agree lol

  • OMG, I have had to tell myself this over and over again!!!! Knowledge is power as well as knowing what works for not someone else but YOU!!!!! O.K. I know what I need to do! You right if you are seeking and searching you can fall prey to the overload of info on going NATURAL!!!!!!!! The best things in life are free as far as the array of info that is available and definitely inexpensive when that knowledge is used with common sense tailored to what is best for again YOU!!!!!! Much love!

  • you look like kelly rowland!

  • thank you. i am returning somethings this week.

  • OMG! When I first started watching curly hair videos, I was seriously at the store every week buying new products! It's crazy!

  • Funny, cause my husband keeps telling me the same thing! "Quit putting all those damn products before ALL your hair falls out!!" I get it, I get it. :)

  • Yep, keep it simple. Find what works for your texture of hair and stick with it!! Folks just be flip flopping using every new thing, technique or product being pushed on youtube. Then some people complain that going natural is expensive, cause they keep buying every new thing that promoted on youtube, without giving what they already purchased a chance to work.

  • wow! black girls look great in a pinkish tone lipstick!

  • Watch! I feel you and so on point! I'm newly natural and and I give some stuff the side eye. LOL!!! I was born at night, but not last night.... Love your channel!

  • What do you use on your skin? it looks soooo clear and beautiful

  • @DamnDeeRight Thank you , I have a skincare video that I JUST did, it may be a week old. Be well

~keep it real and thanks for watching and commenting

  • The first video i seen abt this vlogger and its the true Being that I am newly natural alot of info out there and some ppl think going broke it necessary in which i heard y alot of ppl dont go natural because they think its expensive. I think that going natural dont have to be expensive. I told me self not to be a product junkie. I had a spending limit and I wont buy new products until my my old ones are almost finished

  • @memebrady That is the smart way and the best way . Thank you for commenting and clicking to watch.

    ~keep it real

  • beautiful hair girl i'm subbing

  • Werd up girlfriend. Say that!

  • My concern is not about the product. I don't know that you've answered this in another video, but my hair is driving me crazy. I haven't used chemicals (ie perms, texturizers..etc) for about 4 or 5 years, but my hair is still processed. I have the right mind to chop it off, but what do you (or anyone who is reading this) suggest?!

  • @chchchinita20 You can't "unperm" your hair. The only way to get rid of the hair that isALREADY processed is to cut it off.

  • Your hair is beautiful!! I love the way it looks. Great video also!!

  • i have cabinets full....money spent...HUNDREDS of dollars :( im slowly getting it together

  • A lot of newbies will go through a product-junkie phase. I think the zeal is a part of the excitement one feels when they start something, it's like a new love affair. Just like the honeymoon in a relationship, in the beginning we're operating from emotion more than logic. Good points, Vanisha.

  • That's very true. I've only been natural for about two years so far and there ARE a lot of things that I've seen and been interested in trying, but I had to refrain because I don't want to do something that I can't undo, that's what made me give up relaxers in the first place. If I don't know for sure what the result is going to be and if that works for me or not, then I tend to wait and research, and actually a lot of the time I end up not wanting the thing anymore once I've looked it up.

  • You look lovely in this video. I like your hair and eyes, and your skin is gorgeous.

  • @middy444 Than you so much :O) Thanks for commenting and watching

    keep it real

  • Agreed!

  • I am newly natural and I have been waiting and watching. Glad to know it was a smart decision!!! Thnx girl!

  • Thank you for this confirmation, I refuse to buy expensive products because Guru Sally said it was good. I am enjoying my natural hair journey and just feeling confident that I will find my way...without overexpensive organic products.

  • This is so true; in fact, i think it is also true of make-up products as well. I love watching makeup and hair tutorials as l like to find out what methods/products other people use and maybe try it for myself. However, I have to be careful of not buying things - especially those that are similar to products I already own just because I saw such and such using it in their video.

  • You are right, Girl!! I have to keep myself from doing this and I know myself well enough to know that sometimes I try and do the next new thing lol But, in my natural journey, I have done so much research that I have my own way of doing things. I often want to tell people that what one person does is not for all naturals. We are not all the same woman lol Most of the things I do with my hair now, no one else is doing except me, and I must say, that makes me happy!! Great vid!!

  • You are very cute! And I love your hair! I also went natural and it took me 2 years to have my hair grow to half way my back, then I used the flat iron to make it straight sometimes and I damaged it, so I had to cut half of it (the damaged part) because I was literally drying my hair with the iron, and after that, my hair never curled, only the new hair would curl. I'm doing my research to, trying different products and watching the response of my hair. Thank you for that!

  • AMEN! Thank you so much for this. I'm not a new..new natural, I've been natural for 3 years. At firs, starting out, I too was on the bandwagon, but soon learned that everything was not for everyone, including me. I watched videos and took notes and learned the lingo. Now, I have learned what does my hair good and I do me. I still have those go to people that I keep up with to see what's new. I try and keep it easy for me. Thanks for keeping it REAL! Peace!

  • So glad that I came across this vid today. My cousin and I are both newly naturals and she is the pj (product junkie) and me not so much. This bandwagon you are talking about she is so there if she thinks a product will work she goes and buys it and if it doesen't work she puts it on her dead hair product shelf and off to the next thing. She thinks that I'm the crazy and cheap one taking time to do the research. Going to show her this vid I hope she gets something from it.

  • i know, been natural for a year , i learned alot of styling tips from other naturals, but as far as a regimen you have to seek it for your hair because everyone's is different and it does not take all of these rulesand product education to have natural healthy hair, you are right on, i love it!

  • Nuff respect!!!! Keeping it real is hard, but someone has to do it! :))

  • yea the natural hair bandwagon is on the rise...i've been natural for over 2yrs my hair is growing steadily and is strong and healthy...a friend of mine just recently did her big chop- afterwards had no idea what to do with her hair before she did this i told her to come to me so i can show her how to properly take care of her hair- she didn't listen and now she is scrambling! doing research before you go natural and learning about YOUR HAIR is KEY!

  • i love this video...i know u posted it a while ago. I am a natural hairstylist in a city where there aren't many natural salons...I see many many many people who are newly naturals and even somewhat experienced naturals who just fall into these products that are not necessary for healthy hair...Just wanted to say GREAT VIDEO

  • Wow this video really changed how I see my natural hair journey...I am done being worried and extra attentive to every single little thing people say about this product and that one!!!

  • And this is why this is the realest channel on the YT. I've been natural for 10 years and a lot of products with mineral oil and silicones have been good to me over the years. I cut my hair often and it grows back longer and stronger each time. Last cut was a chin length bob in Sept 09 and now I'm nearing BSL. My rule: Find what works for YOU and WORK IT!

  • "the bomb -dotcom" lol XD i needed this video...

  • This is so true. I love this, very informative...

  • Preach. I have been transitioning for 11 months and I was definitely suffering from information overload in the beginning, but when I started my journey I made a few rules that I stuck to. The most important being that I will try products to find what my hair likes, but I will buy *one* product at a time and use it until it's gone, as long as it wasn't horrible to my hair. That rule saved me from jumping onto bandwagons and really looking at my options to feel out what I wanted.

  • AMEN!! I just found your channel today, and i truly want to say thank you for this video, I am new to going natural, and so many people tell me I need to be doing this or that in order start this journey. I dont have money or time for most of these things. And I do tend to get put down because "im not doing it right" but you are right this is MY journey. and I will be telling all these people just that, i am fine with dipping in my kitchen olive oil for right now, much love♥

  • Good stuff AE..Favorited..'you dont jump on, you watch' well said

  • Great video. Let me say "thank you" for posting this. I'm newly natural and watched many YouTUbe videos before making the BC and wanted to be sure and take my time. I think simple is better. I can tell some of these you tubers are product junkies and it didn't seem to make much sense. I think a solid simple regimin that works is key and our natural hair will respond. Appreciate the positive post! :)

  • subscribing right now!!! i have watched and watched you...but this sealed it for me ma'am. Preach!

  • WOW!!! I LOVE IT!!! I've had locs for the last 8 years and now I'm combing them out and before I knew it I was on youtube just over-freaking-whelmed at all the advice and products and hair types and dos and don'ts and mannnn I was almost wanting my locs back. I like how you put it down in this video. I know I do what works for my 6 year old's hair regardless of what other's say and her hair and her afros are awesome. I need to do the same for myself once the locs are gone. Good looking out!

  • That is very true. I remember when the trend was olive oil and I kid you not when I say that my hair does not like olive oil. I tried repeatedly and my hair didn't like it. The castor oil made my scalp and forehead breakout... no matter how little I used. I am not natural, but what has worked for me is coconut oil. I use coconut oil to prep my hair before I relax. I have found what works for me. I used so many different brands and I got tired of wasting money on stuff my hair wasn't feelin.

  • It is so much information out here on natural hair, but you have to learn your hair and pay attention to what it does, sometimes you can out grow a product, stop looking for hair growth Miracles and learn you. I totally agree with what jaimuziq stated above. Be blessed Divas

  • Tell it!

  • This is such a great video!!!! I was on the bandwagon for a long time....no coned conditioners, no mineral oil, no sulfates.....blah blah blah... I am now beginning to use products that are seen as aplague in the natural hair community and my hair is doing fine!!!

  • @atinawaya Exactly, do what your hair likes, and forget about the rest. lol Be well

    ~keep it real

  • i sooooo agree with you..when i started transitioning i was doing so much research and following some many different tips i ended up cutting my hair way before i wanted to..

once i cut it i said f**** it im going to do my own regiment and try not to be a product junkie or follow anyone else's method

  • @bobbysalways I think that a regimen is good to have, if you find one that works, stick to it, as for products that is totally up to you and what your hair responds to. The things that are said to be bad, I stopped using not because of personal experience, but what was said. I had to check myself and snap back to reality, lol. Im better now. I use what I want and what works well. But the regimen is the same, detangle, shampoo, condition/dc, oil, leave in , and styler. Thats it

    ~keep it real

  • I do watch these videos for guidance and support during my transitioning. BUT I use the grocery store approach... I take what I need and leave the rest behind ! BTW I love your channel and am happy to be a new subbie :)

  • thank you so much for this video, i will defenately subscribe because i agree with evertyrhing that you said, i started transitioning a year ago, not even knowing know it was becoming "popular" (i just kinda didnt have money to buy perm anymore) and then i get on youtube and everyone is talking this product that product......i keep it simple my hair grows all the same!! congrats on your chanel i will tune in!

    xx

  • I'm transitioning and alot of ppl talk about all types of products I've never heard and I am worrying about spending money I have the basics and they are doing great for me!! I almost bought a 13ounce bottle of hair conditioner for $13 dollars and I just had to put it back!! So I really appreciate this vid it is very helpful I definitely will be subscribing

  • @grayshie Im glad that you enjoyed the video. Thanks for subscribing, welcome to the family.

    ~keep it real

  • amen!

  • Thank you for a great video.

  • this is my second time..going natural..the last time there was not this much information out there and it was not acceptable(society) without any help i went back to relaxed hair..and keep it braided..6 months ago I decided it was time again..a different space.spiritually, physically and mentally now..after doing research and watching videos..i realized that what i was doing 10yrs ago when i first went natural is still what works for my hair..i will have to try some of the new products..one day

  • im relaxed and i feel you 1000000000000000000000000000000% this should be a public announcement for all natural/relaxed/permed/kinky/straight/black/white/polkadotted ppl!

  • i truly heart this.. subscribed.

  • Awesome video thanks sis!!!!!!

  • I really do appreciate this video!

  • "natural isnt gonna make u broke!"lol. (great statement)..

  • I needed this reminder today. Thanks so much! I am such a product junkie and I get so excited.

I got some new twists yearterday, and now I am going to sit back and watch. Thank you. My money is short and my excitement is high.

    Thanks for the rant!

  • I feel you!!! My moms German and my dads black and I went natural about ...3-4 years ago...I have a spiral type texture (Not super tight...but not wavy) and EVERYBODY kept suggesting "Mixed Chiks"..I saw the prices and was like Thats SO ok... 3 years later I have my faithful products (drugstore brands) and my hair is just fine! I still try new stuff, but i dont NEED the high end stuff for my hair! Like you said...Its a PERSONAL journey...so EXPLORE PEOPLE and walk it for yourself! Great VID! :D

  • Like we say in my town..."Girl You Ah Trip...Yea Mon" LOL

  • i know this is off topic but that lip stick is sooooooooooo NICE on you.......truly beautiful

  • Amen! The circle I grew up in women have always worn their hair natural and still do. I've been doing my reasearch and I'm not feeling spending $20 for a little arse bottle of a hair product. I just don't think that its necessary! I'm not trying to grow my hair to my waist I just want natural and healthy hair! I actually recommend starting small and cheap then go big if you have to or want to.

  • OMG! Hallelujah!

  • Just now running across your vids. I have watched a few of them. I just want to say your hair is beautiful!!!!!! It really looks amazing!!!!! Im a Cosmetologist and believe in healthy hair! Im not natural, but love natural hair and working with it. Keep speaking the truth!!!!!!

  • Excellent advice ! i know your adressing the natural sista's ... but it should be applied to all our black hair types wither it be chemical or natural textures, as the same common sense logic still applies .

    A Gr8 vid.

  • Strong message! Your hair is lovely in this vid. I'd love to know how you achieved it. Did you use rods? My ends never turn out as curly and defined as yours :-)

  • In today's difficult economic client it is so refreshing to hear words of wisdom. THANK YOU for the validation to all of us who have are striving to be frugal yet beautiful. I stopped being a PJ-product junky and I have established my own hair regimine. I buy pretty economical products and I keep them on hand. I don't keep buying and buying because frankly I don't have it like that. You keep on keeping it real! You are a real BLESSING!

  • speak the truth love it keep keeping it REAL sis

  • You are sooo right! I had to learn this the hard way. I just stopped trying products. I was trying to achieve something that my hair really isn't meant to do (basically wash-n-go hair). We just need to study our own hair and figure out what works for us. We can't look to someone else and assume we're going to get the same results.

  • I love everything you stated,

natural hair is a personal journey

every product is not for everybody.

your hair is gorgeous by the way.

  • @lovelyti2002 Girl thank you, you know whats up! Love your videos mama.

~keep it real..... as if you ever stopped :o)

  • Educate and Research is the key to finding good products for your own personal hair. I agree with you. Very informative video.

  • sister, you are beautiful...you remind me of Phyllis Yvonne Stickney

  • wow. this is very interesting. thx :)

ilove how this applys to EVERYTHING in life, once yu think about it. natural hair or not

  • I approve this message.

  • this is so true and i have noticed lately one guru i enjoyed watching has gotten the big head and really cocky since they are trying to make a profit and the fact so many look to them for advice.there is no need for that.information is open everyone.we need to read for ourself and stop being puppets and running out to the store or purchasing everything. We have look at the reason a person is telling us thing to make money.ive been guilty of this as well by being a product journey.

  • Bandwagon? As an engineer I protest that statement. Creativity and competition is why we are improving in society. For instance, we natural started out using vaseline, now we know that fruit and nut oils are benefical than using a petro product. Should we go back to vaseline. Old competitor would appreciate the business. My suggestion try some new, if it doesn't work. Try another.

Gosh, girl. If I follow your opinion I would still be riding in a steam engine as opposed to a plane.

  • Wow I wish I wouldv seen this video about a month ago. I spent so much on all these different products and didnt like the results with them (im a newly natural).... and the products that work that best on my hair were the cheapest and simplest. I definitely know now!! Thanx for this video... it was very informative.

  • also please beware of the corporate plants on youtube claiming to have been natural for less than a year w. hair down their back and sporting products. I especially think its weird when the biracial/latina girls are promoting products and saying they have natural hair. Its like brook shields for the latisse commercials. she is promoting a product she'd never have to use cause her lashes are naturally long and full.

  • I became natural as a result of going organic. I decided not to give big business any of my money. Then i became convinced that the people who make hair care products purposely put out things that give temporary fixes with long term damage. So i just looked at whatever they advertised was in their product (shae butter, carrot oil, honey etc) and bought the pure products. It is disheartening to see the product reviews because the products are as if not more expensive than perms

  • @Offended83Shadow So you are a conspiracy theorist? I can appreciate your opinion and hope you don't mind my comment but guess what? I use latisse and I now have eyelashes and I was suprised at how much growth I actually experienced. So dont knock brooke shields baby...lol Just because its advertised doesnt mean it doesnt work.

  • @miss2umister Okay...first off, i never said latisse didnt work. Though if you do read up on the product your new long eyelashes will fall out. Also any off label use glaucoma medication will work. Latisse is nothing new. My point is the advertising tactics by using someone who naturally has the "look du jour" and giving people the impression that your product did it. Sorry if it went over your head. Next time i'll use smaller words.

  • @Offended83Shadow My new lashes may fall out if I stop using the med I am well aware but I was able to retain hair after i stopped using ro gaine so I am ok with that. Secondly not all glaucoma meds grow lashes only the prostaglandins have been showed to.Third as latisse is now a branded med with an indication it is no longer considered off label use. Forth as for your smaller words...

  • @miss2umister 1) so you admit to maintain your lashes you have to be dependent on the product, its just a temporary fix like most hair care products that claim to do xyz. 2) i don't think brooke shields has problems with her eyelashes falling out. OH because hers are naturally long and she doesnt use latisse. So her being the spokes person implying thats how she got them is a farse. Kina like when women w/ naturally long hair claim hair promote hair products to grow hair pretending they're....

  • @miss2umister the cause. EEEK smilies and examples are so hard.

3rd) using glaucoma products that arnt latisse for growing eye lashes would thus be off label. 4th) i will stop here cause you are going to find another way to validate your existance by arguing about trivial shit. Have a great day and enjoy being a marketing puppet

  • @Offended83Shadow Sounds like you have life all figured out, and I understand marketing better than you ever will. Its funny how you feel you are bringing the light. I am able to discuss any subject without lowering myself to name calling or being judgemental , you didnt invent the wheel and your opinion aint new, sadly neither is your attitude.

  • @miss2umister but i am right. Ps i understand the human psyche more than you ever will. I totally called your reply.

I exist I exist I exist and I know things you dont cause i exist....sangano

MY original post: be wary of people promoting products that they dont need/use ex latisse

Your response: blah blah blah i'm going to start an argument even though you are right. I just need my existence validated.

  • This is totally off topic...( well not really) but your hair looks soo good!!!

  • @MsCamilleB thanks chica

  • that nail polish color is hot!

  • good video i just went natural in june and i admit i do wanna try it all but i dont cuz i kno i cant afford it so i do wat works for me.. im a subscriber now=)

  • I agree....thats concept needs to apply to EVERYTHING in life!

  • great vid:)

  • off subject..you have beautiful skin..sorry had to say it lol

  • Loving that hair!!

  • I still do not think that natural hair has become as mainstream as you have said. Being natural is still a totally different way of life. I agree with you about the product "bandwagon". There are a lot of yt channels that exploit naturals by making it seem as though these particular products yielded their particular results. As a lover of beauty and health yt channels, some channels over the years, I've just had to let go because of their loss of integrity.

  • Thank you for this. The game has definitely changed since 2003 when I first started. It's great to have more options available as far as natural hair products are concerned, but they're not necessary to maintain natural hair. Keeping it simple works! Give me some shea butter, aloe vera gel and over-the-counter conditioner, I'm good.

  • @GCMuzik I went natural in 03 too and I can remember all the products I started with.. mainly Qhemet heavy amla cream and a few Abba products lol.. a lot has definitely changed but yes simple is good!

  • @curlychronicles Simplicity is where it's at! Autumn thanks for gracing my page.

    Peace

    ~keepi t real

  • ok.This isn't all about natural hair. I have a high school friend on YT with a make-up channel and she recommened Maybelline Dream Smooth Mouse. I was skeptical but went out and bought the $7.99 product and loved it. I have done this with other things concerning my transitioning hair and I have gotten good results. I think you should be smart do your research and have fun!

  • i hear you. everyone's journey is different. i don't know anything about hair typing but i feel people get too caught up in that too. it's whatever your hair and body loves. whatever you nurture will grow, literally and figuratively

  • Too angry..... its sad kindness gets you so much further. Sistas will never learn. Why can't we just be happy for people? whoever wanna jump on a band wagons and spend all their money then so then be it. There is too much animosity amongst the naturals. 1st of all being au natural and organic is about conservation not waste.

  • Thx for this video! It was the TRUTH!!

  • THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO. I will pass this along to my natural sisters on my blog.

  • AfricanExport you hit the hammer on the nail on this one and that's why I f%&#'s with ya...)

  • I like watching these videos because they do help us who have natural hair to learn how to care for it better. What I do is basic experimenting and trial & error because what works for someone else may not work for me and I know this being natural. We have different textures to our hair so all products will not work the same.

  • PREACH! You are not lying either already I've got more than I should've had. When it was all said and done....Jerry Curl Juice, a few oils, and VO5 Conditioner works for me. LOL Love your channel girlie! Look forward to more!

  • Agreed!! Everyone's hair is different.....What works for some is not 100% gonna work for all ...Great video

  • Thank you so much for this. I've been natural for 11 years, but I always wore wigs, weaves and braids. This past year I decided to love what God gave me. I turned to youtube vids for help, but became more and more overwhelmed. You said it best when you said, 'Keep it old school'. Thats what I will be doing from now on.

  • Omg...I must subscribe... These are the REALIST words i've heard on Youtube about natural hair, thus far.... Thank you SO much....

  • It does take some trial and error to know your preferences and the blogs/youtubers/sites will help with selection. People need to select carefully and not go blind. I am the all-natural and vegan person. 1- I am vegan and that is part of my lifestyle 2- I am a tree-hugger. This is personal. Be authentic in your product choices and life will be simpler. Natural hair, like all hair, should be simple.

  • Thank you for saying that. I wish I'd heard it about 4 months ago. I did it all but it didn't takem ke long to figure it out. I jumped on the bandwagon bigtime. It is so tru. Natural hair should be simple and not expensive. It's really being true to yourself. Whatever you hair does is what it does. You learn what your hair likes and you stick to it. If you have to put 10 products in your hair to produce a style, that style is not for you. Butters, oils, leave-ins. It's waaay too much.

  • I so agree! I've been natural over 18yrs now and have enjoyed trying many of the natural hair brands. It's so true that what works for one may or may not work for another. My daughter and I have different hair needs and recognize this through self experimenting and we've determined what products are best for our hair. I'm lovin' the options available!

  • "Now that it's become...Now that it is..." I think you were looking for the words.."Now that it has become TRENDY." There is a trend now to be natural. Much like the trend in the 70s for black women to be bald or wear Afros and braids. Like every trend it will have it's heights and eventually it will stave off. Many who go natural now during this trend will return to relaxers or to some new way of doing black hair...for some natural is a hairstyle for others it's a lifestyle....

  • Thank you so much. Because I am annoyed by the people who always want to use every product and then complain. You are so right. I have been natural 8 months and my hair has grown back is almost back to the original length which shoulder length. I have kept my hair in braids most of the year, so I am not understanding throw a product in ur hair because this person says so. I dont clutter in my cabinet, less products is good.

  • I am newly natural and I having been addicted to watching natural youtubers as ONE source of info & opinions. I NEVER comment but I was all too compelled! I think this video is absolute genius and you have def hit the nail on the head with various points you have raised. I find that all of the products ARENT necessary..... I think women can sometimes complicate things & hair is one of them. SO extremely glad I stumbled on this video, youtube is lacking knowledgeable yet sensible naturals!

  • preach!

  • Oh my goodness you are so onpoint with this.I watch enough videos and I want to cut my perm out i am 5 month post..My reason not so much the bandwagon tired of perms I work out too much and I am sick of ponytails and shedding.I find that no matter how much oil is in it it stays so dry. I luv videos u keeps it so real.

  • Thank you beautiful...This is why I love u channel.......you are teaching me so much I really appreciate it...thanks..:D

  • love it

  • As a recent transitioner, I agree there is an explosion of information, though I blame social media more than product hype itself. Before YT, FB, and blogging, it was difficult to share information about natural hair care, etc. So, as a result, this explosion of information is both good and bad. As you said, this is a journey unique to each person, and ultimately, whether through wise counsel, trial and error, or both, each person will learn what works and doesn't work. Research is key though!

  • Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! As a recovering product junkie, I am seeing the light. No more following crazy regiments, no more buying every new "natural" hair product online. As a former 2 year transitioner and currently a two year natural, I have realized that keeping it simple and realizing that EVERYTHING I need can be found locally is what has helped me. Never again will I spend loads of money on the trends. I understand that the newbies wanna try everything but plz keep it simple.

  • Thanks for reeling me back in, cuz I was bout to get knee deep into products!

  • Keep it simple! Thank you!! You can make it with about 5-6 products you don't need a whole lot to keep hair on your head.

You kept it real!! Love it!

  • This is why I love channels like you and Kimmaytube - you stress individuality and simplicity. Not going mad on new things, but sticking to what makes sense and WORKS. And you can't argue with the results :) So, thanks for keeping it real. I definitely have product-junkiie tendencies (I have three boxes full of stuff I tried when I first went curly). Now I watch one of your vids for some common sense when I feel like trying the latest "miracle product"! x

  • So true. When I first went natural, I went a bit nuts thinking that everyone knew better than me how to care for my hair. Now I've learned to consider what people say - because there's a lot of wisdom out there - but be selective. Also, it's tempting to think that there will be miracle products/appliances to give you AMAZING hair straight away. I think it's important to take time to let your hair adjust and get properly moisturised - THEN consider what it needs.

  • 13yrs! Bravo!

  • I agree; Keeep it simple, I had to learn that the hard way. It really doesnt take all that

  • Anytime a "youtuber" mentions a product(s) some people will choose to jump on that bandwagon depending how much they like the "youtuber" it is what it is and that's their choice. Everything is trial and error for everyone and hopefully it's something they can learn from.

  • @jaimuziq It is definitely a part of the natural hair experience, trail and error that is. But I can say with all confidence that there is a huge difference in the learning curve comparing "the new natural" and the "natural hair veteran." If it wasnt such a huge growing market I dont think there would be so much following. Advertising feels our heads with visions and images of "better, longer, stronger, and healthier hair". My messege is that naturals need to educate themselves.

    Thx 4 commentin

  • Well said! You could spend a small fortune on all of the products out there. I did at first, but then realised as you said that there is a 'Bandwagon' out there. There are some ruthless people out there trying to make money out of ignorance! Anyone becoming natural now, will have a lot of products to deal with. They need to read and make sure that they know how to tend to their natural hair. Knowledge is power!

  • I agree. I have never been much of a product junky. When people started using that castile soap I went beyond reading the ingredients and researhed the process it takes to make it and found lye was used. I know a little more now about Ph Balance of the hair but for the most part I am taking it back to basics and that means keeping my hair clean, conditioned and moisturized. The same things that works for me before I joined forums and started watch all these videos.

  • Thanks!! This video is a real an eye opener. I was on the the Bandwagon but my pocket book fixed that. But any way i Believe what u said is true. U really have to find what work for ur hair type and texture. I have been natural for 3 years and I have wasted alot of money on bandwagon products.

  • Excellent video, my sentiments exactly.

  • True video.

  • love this soooooo true !!!!!!

  • Girl I'm blaming you for the lunch hour hot topic of the day...LOL (just kidding). It was interesting to see my friends varying thoughts on the natural hair journey. All in all this is personal journey that should be tailored for your own hair. Thanks again girl!!

  • amen to that!!!

  • i am newly natural almost comin up on two months, and im glad i watched this, because i always do wanna try stuff, but im on a budget, im havin a hard time finding what works! im trying to not jump on every new thing, but ive been tempted. im just taking this time to get to know my hair. i mean how much products do i really need, i only have a lil twa!! lol!!

  • you are deff the truth because so far i have been lost but i think maybe im found lol jk thanks a bunch :)

  • Thanks for this video I have been natural for almost 11 years. Thanks for doing this video because someone needs to say this stuff. It took me several years to figure out what works for my hair. I read and experimented for a really long time, when I started there were really no products out there that worked for me now there are so many products but that does not mean those products work. I am a strong believer in figuring out what works for you and doing that.

  • Amen! Amen! and Amen! I couldn't agree more. People make this way more than it has to be. Can I post this video on my blog? This is exactly what I stand for and promote on m blog.
