  • Marty, you are AMAZING!!! :)

  • First song i learned! Thanks marty your so helpful! I love the fail cam on this cuz i do that ALOT

  • great

  • dude fuck i hate guitars with double dots for anything beside the 12th fret. its cool if its your going to jam. but for teaching you should probs use one thats not like that

  • This is so good! Keep it up and I'm buying your theory CDs

  • 5:39 Mr. Marty Showoff ;) jk

  • good ...

  • marty, y u flip off audience?!

  • During guitar class today somebody broke their g string

  • I don't know about anyone else but I like to mute the G# with my middle finger when I'm doing the (third string "up" from the bottom) C# business. Something about it muddies it too much if you leave it open. It still sounds okay if you don't. Also, it seems like you want to really slide one finger up and let one finger do all the notes at that part, rather than dedicating a finger to each note and "anchoring" them on it. Probably made no sense to anyone- I'm no good at explaining technical stuff

  • How to tune without programs and stuff;

-Be sure your guitar is tuned correctly (EADGBe)

-Tune the A string by 'comparing' it to the E-string (4th fret)

-Now your A has turned into an A flat, tune your E on the 5th fret, by comparing it to A. That way it will also become an E flat.

    -Now do this with A (5th fret) to D, D (5th fret) to G, G (4th) fret to D and D (5th fret) to e.

-Now make sure your E flat turns into a D flat, simply tuning it with the D-flat.

    Sorry for the bad english.

  • dont know why but i looooove the sound of d flat tuned acoustic guitar

  • 5.41-epic marty and at the end "shiiiiiit"

  • It's funny, i just started playing guitar, and every song tutorial Marty makes which he says is easy, i find difficult to do, while this song, not being noted as easy is going as a fruit trough a hurrybee! or something like that<3<3 thanks for the lesson

  • love your hat and great lesson thanx. i love this song

  • martyzsongs hello, thank you very much for your great tutorials. I was recently there has been a question, you base your tutorials unitedwetab the tab???

    pleace

  • Marry me

  • how do u tune to e flat

  • @SuperNirvana33 there's plenty of good tuners on YouTube

  • a way to skip the tuning is just play the same thing one fret lower....saves you much pain :D

  • @xlukeskywalkerBI what pain it is to retune your guitar... none, and you cant skip tuning since the C# is open there, and you can`t play C# on 6th string without tuning down to drop C#

  • You're so awesome! I love your videos, you're a really good teacher.

  • cheers marty

  • if you can't be bothered tuning your guitar to the right tuning, just play it a fret down

  • 0:13 so natural...

  • Are you Tim Tebow's fat brother?

  • guys all you need to do is match the 4th fret of the E string with the A string then match the A string with the 5th fret of the E string and tune regularly

  • @unmentionedmenace 6th fret***

  • Mantabbb,,

  • Hey guys, if you won't change the tuning, you can play the riff without E string =)

  • I love your " Heeey, what's up?" :D

  • Is the A string and D string supposed to be really lose? I'm new to guitar and don't take lessons

  • @zapybladez Are you using a tuner? If so how loose is it? But if its tuned correctly it should feel looser and easier to strum. If it sounds right then its ok.

  • why did kurt always have some type of special tuning?!?!?

  • Hi, Can you teach us something by The Pixies such as Here Comes Your Man or Debaser? Thank you, I always learn a lot with your channel!

  • RIP Kurt Cobain

  • the tuning is also known as Drop C# Easy to tune with program called AP Tuner. All you need is a mic. Thumbs up so pe ple can see!

  • @FableStuff I usually hate when people say, "thumbs up if..." or whatever. However, you, my friend, helped me and I thank you!

  • Thank you. Wow this is the hardest I've ever taught!

  • You really don't know how to play a guitar :/

  • I like the video but I had success learning to play the guitar in no time with 2DAYGUITARCOURSE(DOT)INFO.

  • bring in on marty you rock all time

  • Thanks for spending the time to post this Marty!

  • @dm2k11 that will tune it one half step up not dowb

  • @Crox300 - go suck a dick hes the best teacher ever and hes my god -.- stupid asshole...

  • @crox300 fuck you dude Marty spends hours and hours making tuorial for people like you who dont even give a fuck , why dont you try to teach us a song you asshole, hes the best teacher ive ever seen

  • @Crox300 it is in no way shit

  • if u want to tune ur guitar a half step down put a capo on the first fret nd tune ur guitar to standard tuning with the capo on the first fret

  • HAHAHAHAHA 7:26 I love you, Marty...No homo.

  • nice.

  • for all of you who dont want to detune your guitar for this song, you can just play the song the smae way but start it on the 11th frett of the low e, that will give you a harmony pretty close to what drop d does.

  • shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit :L

  • Detuning is sometimes done to match the persons vocal range, and yes its a pain as i would love to play this in natural tuneing on acoustic. Daaaammmmmmm..

  • Why?, Kurt Cobain!, why you hate the "E" tunning!?

  • THANK YOU!!

  • this is gay

  • Can everyone stop replying to my comment and basically telling me what an idiot I am?

I have now successfully tuned my guitar to drop D flat.

STOP. REPLYING. TO. MY. EARLIER. COMMENT. OK. THANKS. BYE.

  • kurt cobain was a sad man.

  • @afont644 he was sad, but he made millions happy. :)

  • UGH. Nirvana and their unimaginably difficult and obscene guitar tunings.

WTF is drop-D flat?! I bet there is no such thing and Kurt just made it up for a laugh because he knew it would piss us all off.

Yes, it was funny the first time Kurt, but on nearly every song..?? TOO FAR!

    *rant over*

  • @LoverElephant97 : He explains what the tuning is, and how to do it. Many of Nirvana's songs are in Drop D. If you can't play Nirvana songs...well either learn a new instrument or quit.

  • Quit? That's like asking me to slit my wrists!!

No, I can play 3 Nirvana songs already (in standard tuning) but I wanna learn them all. But most of them are in drop D flat. And that takes effort. And I'm an incredibly lazy person.

I will learn them, but only when I can be bothered to :)

  • @LoverElephant97 Drop D flat...umm exactly what it sounds like

  • @LoverElephant97

noooob you suck and KKK ass. (Kurt Kobain Kicks ass.)

  • @AnonimatiumStrikesBk okay then.. and Cobain is spelt with a C.

    Happy trolling!

  • On a plain please!

  • One again Marty unlocks the mystery of guitar tunes I can't work out how to play. What I would give for a year with Marty and a guitar masterclass. He is like Yoda and I am like Luke Skywalker.

  • :) gracias master!!! from chile

  • thank you. so much :')

  • he has got pennyroyal tea

  • too easy

  • dude i have been trying to play the guitar for years! thanks Marty for the help you awsome!

  • now when i watch this,i recognize how Kurt was a genious o.O Tune the guitar half step down,go to 9th A string play 2 times then 10th 1 time then slide to 12... What a creativity!!! I mean who could think that ??? I hope someone will understand what i wanted to mean...

  • pause at 0 15 for a kiss

  • the fail cam .sHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIItT, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH XD

  • really helpful .thanks a alot

  • @1FakieSkater2 Come as you are and Polly are in standard tuning! Other than that, all Nirvana songs are all in really obscure, difficult tunings. :[

  • @LoverElephant97 Come as you are is NOT in standard tuning. On Nevermind SLTS, In Bloom, Breed, Polly, Territorial Pissings, Drain You, Lounge Act and Stay Away are in standard tuning. Come as you are and Lithium are tuned 1 note down (all strings). Drain You is on standard tuning except for the 6th string wish is tuned 1 note down (to F#). The same goes for Something in the way. Endless Nameless is tuned way down on the 6th string, but I don't remember how much.

  • @primaryspiral Sorry I mean "D" for Drain you and Something in The Way.

  • @primaryspiral They might be different on the albums or played live but the way Marty taught them, Come as you are and Polly are the only I can remember as being in standard.

  • @LoverElephant97 Wait a minute, I may have some problems of translation here. When you say standard tuning you mean: 6th string- E; 5 - A; 4 - D; 3 - G; 2 - B and 1 - E, right? cause, if so I'm right for all the original version songs of NEVERMIND, except for the F# on the 6th string for Drain You, I meant D. On the Unplugged album Come as you are is tuned only 1/2 note down..

  • AHHH tired of trying to learn nirvana songs and there all in different tuning besides standard. i have no way to tune my guitar any other way then standard. Should i just get one of those turners with a mic and you play the string and it tells you?? or what?

  • You my friend are AMAZING!

  • hahhaha fail cam the best "Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-it"

  • drop D ????

  • please teach us Pennyroyal tea!

  • everytime i click on a Nirvana song "the tuning is abnormal like every other Nirvana song" and me "FUCKKKKKK!!!!"

  • @TheRedNations they are allmoast all in Eb whats abnormal abut that?

  • @TheRedNations

the only thing you have to do is tuning your low e string down a bit...

  • @TheRedNations it's easy to play this on standard too ...just transcribe the tunings ..

  • thanks man..it really cool..

  • Marty, thank you.I love my guitar now :-)

  • Damn the tuning ....

  • this guy has the monopoly on the "how to play xx song" search on youtube always is th first on the list xD

  • adffsgghhsgsszcsfd Nirvana nirvana nirvana DFJD)$Y$·Dd mncvv Nirvana like :D

  • Thumbs up for fail cam !!! Marty rules !

  • you should teach us Platue

  • I wanna see a guitar jam with Marty and Igor Presnyakov *.*

  • @DarkLordofCookies igor is a cocksucker

  • @trbossdoggy ok, then

  • @DarkLordofCookies It wouldn't be a Jam.... It would be F**K YEAAA OHHH YEAA YEAAAAAAA :D

  • CAN YOU MAKE SLIVER PLEAZE

  • thanks marty !

  • And I'm like 70% sure Pat played lead guitar on the live version, it seems as if the first few minutes Kurt is playing voicings of D chords.

  • Just so everyone knows Db (d flat) is C# G# C# F# A# D#.

Also it sounds better if you don't slide from 10 12, it sounds much more like the original if you strum 12, 12, 10, 9, without sliding. But, this way is easier and it's the same notes.

    Just saying. Hope I helped.

  • FUCK ! im doing the same thing he does but why the fuck my guitar is not sounding like this ? :@@@ Grrrooarrgh

  • Lol I like the last part it's funny. "shiiiiit "

  • Awesome, thanx Marty.

  • Okay, I watched the whole video.. FAIL VIDEO MADE UP FOR THE DROP D THINGY! :D I love you Marty hahaha!

  • You lost me at the drop D thing Marty..

  • @LoverElephant97 wow. its a really simple lesson!

  • @beatlezrawesome the lesson is, but the tuning is not.

  • @LoverElephant97 ohhhhh okay. well the way i do it is make the 6th fret on the deep or low, E string match the A string. then tune normal from there, then put it in drop D. i could prolly make a vid for u if u want.

  • thank you !

  • xD Fail Cam. My fail cam would be a lot worse.

  • why's everyone callin this dude a stoner? i just started watchin his vids he dont seem like that much of a stoner.. must have the visine on deck xD

  • The Bass player is Krist Novoselic && the other guitarist was Pat Smear but he was only with them on tour xD

  • Teach us Dumb - Nirvana!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • The bass player? Thats Krist Novosellic! >.<

  • the day right before my b-day

  • Can u teach us Sentless Apprentice - Nirvana???? :D

  • You should so teach us pennyroyal tea :)

  • @Courtneygolden92

He should nothing he doesnt like

  • lol, pause at 0:20

  • Thanks! This is the best lesson I have been able to find. In the Unplugged version Kurt alternated between strings for the main riff.

  • Thanks Marty. If you ever come to Michigan, I'll take you fishing.

  • Hey Marty, which guage of strings do you use? Ive got 12's on my martin but it looks like yours are a lower guage?

  • Hes got Reptilian Eyes *_*

  • Secret of Martys sick guitar playing:change your strings after you go on vacation..

  • great lesson!!!

  • Are you using nylon strings?

  • @TheGeekyProductions No he's not. It's almost impossible to put nylon on a steel string acoustic even if you did it would go out of tune almost immediately.

  • shiiiit....

  • XD Fail Cam at the end is hilarious.

I like how he's singing it too. Probably thhe best part in the video.

  • the second "then", not the first "then"

  • i knew the solo, not the chords, dumbass. and its "than" not "then" learn english, dumbass. and im really sorry marty, i was being an idiot. i didnt know at the end of the song youre supposed to hit two strings to give it a more rock sound as opposed to the softer way the solo is played in the beginning and middle. youre a great teacher.

  • @mjg198408 actually it is 'then' tinyurl (dot) com/thenvsthan

  • Hope you all understand what iam saying

  • While I was practicing this tune at the third part of this tune you said at 11 fret of g string I tried 11 fret but it didn't sound right and I played it in 10 fret it sound in right tune after finishing practice I tried to play c chord but my guiter was not in right tune g string was in off tune I thought he gave wrong advice but I was wrong and my g string was off tune.

  • you know what is fun to learn the guitar from youtube, you can shut (pause) your teacher's mouth

  • How many cents sharp or flat do you have to go to get the guitar tuned a half step down?

  • Awesome ! You're awesome !

I'm french fan of Nirvana and i want to play this song !

But, i think, il'ts really good idea if we have some subtitle for your videos ! (like the french ... )

  • why is he hitting the 6th and 5th string that freaking idiot its one string at a time. DUMBASS!!

  • @mjg198408 If you knew it, then why did you come to a how to video? Dumbass.

No, he hits more then one at a time, listen to the song.

  • Comment removed

  • Dude, you own at guitar, but please dont sing. no offense =)

  • @liambaker123 Everytime someone says "no offense" usually it becomes a greater offense...

  • i wonder if kurt knew that was mixolydian--or if he just made it cuz it sounded good>

  • thanx !

  • marty! have you quit drugs or something? u looks so energetic

  • martys tan

  • fail cam: shiiiiiiiiiiiit...xD

  • ♫ Shit ♫ haha fail cam made me laugh

  • 7:19 marty fail? it's that posible? O.O'
