Aretha's (and probably Curtis Mayfield's) last great album, virtually ignored when released. For years I thought "Sparkle" was too fast -- I guess Aretha did too, since this version is way slower -- probably too much so, as it lacks a certain, dare I say, sparkle. But her voice still has that immediately appealing, charismatic quality it later, sadly, lacked, and the backups are outta sight.

Anyone know where/when this concert happened?

That's how I feel, too. Just imagine, Curtis' writing/producer skills and Aretha's colorful, soulful and massive vocals. Ain't no tellin' what could've happened.

He did the LP after Sparkle "Almighty Fire".

They did the album after this one "Almighty Fire", it just wasn't as good. I liked it, but the critics didnt' like it. But Sparkle was such a great LP. It's kind of like "Let's Do It Again", that was a great production that Curtis did with the Staple Singers, but The solo project he did with Mavis did do that well.

Aretha has such a calming talking voice. When she says: "I just want you to sit back and relax..." Tell me that that audience didn't do exactly what she said, 'cause you didn't hear a peep outta them other than the ample applause at the end. And when she raises her hands and begins to vocalize "A sparkle..." That is a moment that I am so happy was captured by video, because it was so buttery and sweet. Aretha throws her head back after singing that line showing real emotion. PRAISE GOD!!!!
