Kurgapkina--like the equally legendary Natalia Dudinskaya--was just as well known as a great ballet coach and instructor. Kurgapkina was Ulyana Lopatkina's coach during most of the 1990's and helped turn Lopatkina into perhaps the best-known ballerina in the Mariinsky troupe. In short, Kurgapkina will be missed as much for her teaching skills as her great dancing career.
