6th grade is doing Black History Month and we had to pick some one who was not recommsized by their work and stuff like tht so i was going through ppl at school and i saw her and i looked at her history AND NOW I BET IM GONNA GET A A+ ON IT BC I PICKED HER
@weird4theworld -- This is a "spiritual," which were originated by black people. Jessye Norman commented that "People like to hear spirituals out of the mouths of black people."
@Jokersbell If Africans & African Americans don't have spirits whites like you & whites + a little Native American & Whites + a little Italian & Whites + a little Asian & Whites + a little... ad infinitum do not have spirits. So I guess every human being on the planet including you (& me) must be "Zombies..."
@buenavozalasdoce Don't waste your time with 'jokersbell'. That name says it all. Plus, the number of likes vs dislikes speaks for itself. People like that hate themselves and therefore have no knowledge to tolerate other races...
When i read that as Marian was auditioning to study with her vocal coach, she sang this, and he cried. I didn't understand how anything could be that moving.
Then i listened to this. I understand now, and Marian, you made me cry too.
Marian Anderson always seems to have excellent accompanists and cooperating performers. She deserves credit for planning her programs in this way, in addition to her own spuerb work
she shows so much emotion in her songs they are the water that runs down so smoothly in the stream .............her songs show a great meaning to many people
I am very pleased to learn that even in slavery Black Americans displayed such a high level of sophistication and equality to the whites ...How could people demote the state of being when clearly we are one in the same.... Please Black People 86 this bullshit rap and contiue to display a high integrity of being ......
@starstruckidd - At that time slavery had already been abolished, but the prejudice remained strong. Marian Anderson did many acts of courage and defiance. In 1939 when black musicians could not perform in regular theaters she gave an open air concert at the Lincoln Memorial attended by thousands.
Her concert was a huge step forward for the still enslaved black people in this country. Demonstrable EXCELLENCE was not an attribute commonly associated with the still-downtrodden negroes. She broke major ground on that one.
Today is actually the first time If heard Marian Anderson sing .. In my scholastic past I've read many books on Anderson but never heard her. I was watching a documentry on her life in music class just hearing her speak at an elderly age gave my body a chill
