This is the USA. What has happened to the intellect of our citizens? How could anyone not understand what is really going on here? Remember the Nazi indoctrination and control of the German children who ultimately turned in their own parents to death squads. You may think it could never happen here, but remember this. The murdered German parents didn't believe it could ever happen either. Every step the government takes to control our children moves us closer to losing ALL of our rights.
"Raise a child in the way that they should go, and when they are older, they will not depart from it"......so, if you had no boundaries growing up, you will not respect the boundaries of those around you.....a child, at the age of 12, is still learning and developing core values.....leaving them to "the wolves" is not only ridiculous, but irresponsible.....yes, parental styles might vary somewhat.....but giving your child no boundaries and no guidance??? Ridiculous!!
It is me that goes to prison for killing her 18yr or 21yr old boyfriend. If my 15yr old son gets a girl pregnate who do you think has to deal with those actions? I can't throw him out and tell him well you have a family now your future is forfeit. I'm sorry if you can't understand the complexities of the issue. No one, not the un and not the police, have the right to interfer with my parenting.
see, until you are an adult we as parents are responsible for your actions. If you break the law or get harmed we are responsible. When you turn 17 or are emancipated then you make your own choices until then you have only the privacy we allow you. My kiddos have my respect and privacy up to the time they prove they can't handle the responsibility. If they make a mistake I'm their saftey net. It's my money and my butt on the line. If my teenage daughter is out after curfew and gets date raped..
This is a very well produced teaser. It stirs the emotions of parents to consider what it would be like to lose the authority in their homes. We can't wait to see the docudrama!
Continued: My parents never demanded that I respect them and set minimal rules. I learnt from experience that it was a bad idea to stay up late on a school night. Because of their approach I learnt to make decisions for my self and I never rebelled bacause there was nothing to rebel against. Our generation has grown up in a time where we have access to all the information we wish to view, that does not mean parental guidence has no place. It simply means that it should be guidence not orders.
I also belive that is is wrong to interfere in a youths romantic relationships. I've heard of teenagers being forced to break up with their partners because of unfounded belifes that it will be detrimental to their schooling. I'm sure you don't think that your relationship is detrimental to your professional duties. People learn by experience and you are denying your children that experience. My parent brought me up following the CRC and I don't do drugs, smoke and I am not promiscuous.
@grendal1136 It would not be possible to put forward both the perspectives of the young people and parents. From what I can see you are against a law that is designed to protect children from abuse which is very close to condoning the abuse of children. The amendment that is being suggested is fighting the UNCRC instead of complimenting it. In my opinion the best possible option is to pass a law that defines what is reasonable.I don't see the advantages of parents having their 15 yo med records.
@grendal1136 I agree with @chep2272. I do not have children. There is no advantage to a parent having access to a childs medical records once they are age 12 for instance (it's 12 under UK law that they are entitled to confidentiality). It is perfectly reasonable that children should have the right to privacy and free access to lawfull media. To the religious parents: Nowhere in the bible does it say that dating should be restricted by age. Religion is in no way helpful in modern society.
Continued: By distrusting a child and interfering in intimate medical and sexual matters you are giving them less reason to respect you. Through childhood UK parents guide their children to make their own decisions by giving them access to all the information they wish to view (providing its legal). Children should also be able to choose their own religion without objection of parents, this includes choosing not to go to church.
Continued: By under 18's having the right to make medical decisions especially concerning abortions and genital health we have been able to make the right decisions to best benefit our health. This if because many children will hide things from their parents because of embaressment and so issues will go untreated. It is rare in the UK that a parent demands respect because they realise that they have to be deserving of that respect.
You ain't gonna get this ammendment because of how bad it would look on the US if it pulls out of a UN treaty. The US and Somalia are the only countries which havn't ratified the UNCRC which is disgracful. I cannot belive that people are contesting the childs right to privacy (Article 16). I am 16 and live in the UK and have noticed that the CRC has made parents treat their children as equals in almost every respect. This has meant that they are teaching us how to make our choices which works.
Another fight you are not considering is parents using their children against grandchildren. There are a lot of parents who DO NOT raise their children. They relay on grandparents financially, emotionally, physically, but then blackmail them in order for them to see their own grandchildren. While I agree that Social Services is the worst ever in this country, somebody needs to hold BAD parents accountable for their actions and if they are given free reign, I only fear for their future. DENY
I agree that parents need to be protected from governmental interference, but don't forget that the government is also allowing bitter, angry parents seeking revenge to attack the other parent's rights, and we need to add that to the amendments, that government nor the other parent in a divorce shall be allowed to interfere with the equal rights of the other parent. We need to protect the children from being used as pawns in divorces and custody battles.
The US is nearing bankruptcy: Billions of taxdollars can be saved by simply getting rid of child protective services, paramilitary police forces (remember Waco, Ruby Ridge, BATFE providing guns for Mexican drug war) and the department of education. And that is just the start of it ....
@ibreuer Getting rid of any service that protects children would be breaking international law not to mention irresponsible. You are obviously very uneducated. These services protect the children who are being sexually ABUSED. Billions could be saved on getting rid of services that protect adults, but you would not agree to that would you.
Child Protective Services, under the guise of protecting children, is one of the biggest threats to, families and children. and democracy. Please support this crucially important amendment.
Although it's pathetic that an amendment like this is necessary, its passage is vital to ensure that government does not usurp parental authority. Please do all you can to support this important amendment!!

@TheMoleMan95 let me see so far everything you said is from the role of a child..... do you have children of your own?
