3) Are you comfortable with the growing shift toward "alien spore theory" since the genesis from non-life (amino acids, proteins) to life (err, life) is impossible even when attempted under highly controlled conditions by scientists with huge incentives for wishing it so?
@BrotherofWord Also, bouncing around from video to video repeating the same debunked creationist nonsense does not constitute checking your claims for accuracy.
@BrotherofWord Hello again BrotherofWord. I wanted to leave you one last reply on here and I'm even going to unban you so you can respond. You referenced what you called the "alein spore theory" (Which it's not a theory, it barely qualifies as a hypothesis). Dawkins never put forward such an idea, it was intelligent design creationist William Dembski who put forward this idea and Dawkins was referencing him.
@BrotherofWord Dawkins mentions this in a video at youtube.com/watch?v=6XpP5jsg5kM at 4 minutes and 40 seconds. I now give you one more chance to demonstrate you can be honest and retract your claim that actual scientists are the ones putting forth as you called it the "alien spore theory" and admit the idea actually finds its roots in creationism.
@FyouWanker The reason nobody confirms it a fact is because that's not how science works. In scientific vernacular, nothing is a fact, there is nothing deemed to be self-evident. A hypothesis is what describes an idea with little or no substantiation, a theory is the term used to describe an idea backed up with evidence. Evolution is a theory, but so is gravity. Calling something a fact implies that there's nothing more to learn, which is counter-intuitive to the purpose of science.
i am cautiously optimistic about your future, you are not a lazy researcher, that goes a long way. Glad to see someone with a sceptical mind out there, best of luck.
your right people should leave their beliefs private but that's the problem with christianity and islam they are told by their holy books to go out and spread the word of allah or jesus which means that some of the believers in these faiths can not keep them private and that's the main problem most atheist's have with religion
I have to agree with everything you say here. The methods of many in the Christian community have caused me to question my faith. It intesesting how many Christians behave in the most un-christ like manner.
I had a similar experience as you, but I did not give up in my personal faith, I gve up my faith in my fellow church-goers. I was sent to Hovind's website as well one day when I claimed evolution had nothing to do with religious beliefs, and since I want to be a scientist, I was stunned by how willingly ignorant he is.
-
He even depicted dinosaurs fighting knights in the 15th century... oh, sorry, they were called dragons then :D LOL!
You got a few good points but more often than not you seem to equate creationism with young earth creationism. However, there are versions of creationism that are compatible with science. I wish one of these versions would evolve supply a version of a creator that is more detailed and relatable than the raw biblical version. Or maybe it did and I just don't know it.
My faith has been severely challenged lately. I've been telling God to go F Himself daily. I hope I snap out of that eventually, but you are right. Kent likes to destroy what evolutionist's said years ago. The theory gets updated all the time and Kent doesn't do enough research to keep up. He was always on the road. He needs to keep current in order to debate and he doesn't. I do like a lot of his views though, and most of them show how the Bible matches what science observes.
Thank you for this vid. It must have really difficult for you, with regard to friends you trusted and a path you thought you would take.
To be pedantic for a moment (well, it's a hobby) evolution itself arguably DID cause your crisis of faith because it's what led to your brain being what it is & thus able to understand the facts
You are highly intelligent & knowledgeable, unusually so. What hope is there that the average Y.E. creationist will be able to grasp what you did?
so you took one mans thoughts and left Christ because of one person who really didn't know what he was talking about. wow... did you check this with anyone else.
@rnoebabl Who was this one man? What was his idea? Oh...I see. You're referring to Darwin. This is a common misconception but the scientific model of evolution isn't contingent on the work and findings of Darwin alone. Darwin proposed the initial concept, which was put under due scrutiny and testing. The current model of evolution is based on 150+ years of research into the process. Darwin was wrong about some things, evolution has been adjusted to accommodate new findings and evidence.
Kent Hovind is a complete whack Job.......I have not been a creationist so all watching his videos did for me was want to tear his head off for being so horribly ignorant. He is a hack..
I recognize what you experienced, however from non-creationist circles.
In our church it was obvious that evolution is true, that the Bible was written by man, inspired by God, over many decades and places, etc.
Still, when kids asked questions about where religions come from, or noted there's something fishy about the relationship between where you live and your religion, then the exact same dishonesty and manipulation emerged.
Where I live there isn't really a creationist movement, yet funny enough when I was little some religious morons where stupid enough to try to tell me the sun went around the earth, because it was in the bible.
Which was pretty much all I needed to conclude that these sort of people are both fools and liers.
I was never a creationist, I worked out that something like evolution was real at about 10 years of age. But I did think at one time that creationists might have had a point. Not a good one maybe, but something. That was maybe a dozen years ago.
Then I read some of their material. I was stunned. Supposedly good religious people promoting lie after lie. Since then I have read a few books and seen stuff on the net. I have never seen anything from creationists that was true.
Please be specific. If there is one complaint creationists have is that evolutionists "hurl elephants." They make sweeping statements that have absolutely no substance. If desired, please explain what specifically caused you to doubt?
Do you want examples of specific lies? Supposed human footprints among dinosaur prints at Paluxy River in Texas. The bombardier beetle. The myth of scientists claiming the Nebraska tooth was human. The attempted fraud over potassium-argon dating of dacites from Mount St. Helens. The lies about australopithicus "Lucy". The lies about the Piltdown case. The multiple lies about carbon dating. Another 293 can be found at "300 Creationist Lies" but I didn't find those there.
You seem to be missing the point of the video. Here I had what I thought were all these godly people around me and as it turns out they were little more than liars and frauds putting themselves before God and demanding that I do the same. What kind of effect do you think this would have on someone new to the Christian faith?
Excellent video, good man! I really can't say any more than what the other commenters have said. You did what you were supposed to do: you followed the facts and you were rewarded with truth. You've already done more than the average creationist. Keep up the good work!
I had a similar experience. Most of my elders thought I would grow up to be a preacher. People who are raised atheist don't understand the emotional power these people have over us. It's easy to convince you of BS when creationists talk about things you don't know about. It's a lot harder when they start talking about things you actually know about.
The most dangerous thing to one faith is the study of religious belief, I have read the the books well enough to see that, believers generally are very ignorant to there own knowledge let so how can they know everything else if they are not even sure of their own story! Great video well done.
Regardless of your religious conclusions, it's encouraging to know that you're out there, looking at the facts, and have the courage to make up your mind about what's true, honest, and respectable. Good job!
I have hypothesizes that YEC is the cause for most conversions of faith. The reason for this is just as you said; people grow up with this false dichotomy of creation vs. evolution that is spun into christian vs. atheist. When the faithful go off the college (because high school is so bad) and they learn about how science really works it makes them questions their faith. It also puts them at adds with others in the group because they have also grown up with this false dichotomy.
Wow, you had to sign a statement you accept YEC, that's yec ;)
You are a brave man Trebob27, taking truth as authority, not authority as truth whilst -i take it- what you found had consequences wrt your circle of friends/family etc.
The question is why can't the Church teach about evolution being compatible with their belief? Would you have stayed religious if the religious people weren't such hypocrites?
I mean, Christians went over the heliocentric view, the spherical earth, atomic theory (as pose to 5 fundamental elements), etc fine. But, why do they cling on to evolution for so long?
It won't be surprising to see even the fundamentalists laughing at today's creationists a few centuries later from now.
"The question is why can't the Church teach about evolution being compatible with their belief?"
For me, it seemed like if they were doing that, then there was no reason for me to accept any of the Bible as literal, and thus no reason for me to accept any of it as absolutely true. That's part of what did it for me.
That's why they locked up Galileo for all his retirement years in his house. If the Bible was open to interpretation about the Sun not revolving around the Earth, then so could other things.
Trebob. I so agree. I am currently in a "debate" with a YEC called Mack Quigley. Every point you have raised I have raised with him. Our line of argument is almost exactly the same. If you're interested investigate my last 4-5 videos.
May I direct MackQuigley to this video? I only ask this because he might post a much less than charitable response to you.

There is no such shift. People who make this claim are usually quote mining Richard Dawkins. Look up the rest.

@BrotherofWord Also, your saying scientists have "huge incentives for wishing it so" only shows you have no idea how science works.

Evolution is an absolute disgrace to science.
Objects never order anything, mutations never order anything and natural selection will only select what has already been ordered.
Evolution is so irrational that it should be removed from all classrooms.

For years, I couldn't rationalize the apparent conflict of Biblical vs Scientific explanations of existence; I believed in science.
But then it was revealed to me that God is real, Jesus Christ lives, and the Bible is His word and I needed to pay attention.
1 The Bible is not a scientific text book
2 Creationism is non-biblical and unnecessary
3 The Bible is true, but need not be explained in scientific terms
4 God gave us science; great advances have always been inspired or serendipitous.
