  • My dad was a flight engineer with ATA and he flew this airplane, he loved it. Yes, ATA is missed.

  • I miss ATA - many times flew out of Indy to Vegas with them.

  • When I read "Birmingham" I thought you meant Alabama LOL! But you probably did since they to have a International Airport.

  • Horrible airline. The air was malfunctioning the entire flight.. which was 7 hours long. No air in my zone, and the entire plane smelled so stale as if the cabin air filters had never been changed. Plus, I never thought we were going to get off the ground it was so underpowered. I will stick with DC-10's

  • @PaganEgyptian DC Crash you mean.

  • amazing plane, i love trijet !

  • nice video, flew with them a few times from prestwick to orlando int, none of your sanford shit...lol...love the L10-11

  • Awesome! That plane was the most beautifully colored plane from American Trans Air.

  • Wait let me get this right...ATA L10-11 Tri Star, Birmingham, ATA, Birmingham? really was this on a scheduled service or just a one of because BHX doesn't evan get British Airways any more :(

  • @JamesB767 british airways such. They should be called london airways as thats where they only serve. I live in Newcastle and all we get is one flight to Heathrow

  • Awesome Vid! Congrats :)

  • magnificent video just awsome

  • WOW I use to work on that exact same AC # 187 seen on the front landing gear door. I always liked to work the lower galley, by the looks of it that must be Manchester or Gatwick Airport??

  • It's Birmingham Airport, but the other end - kinda like Gatwick though as they turn onto the runway (15), so I see where you're coming from.

  • JJ, we are a special few. #1 we have worked the tristar. #2 we worked the lower galley. #3 we worked the lower galley of a tristar at the best airline there ever was or could be.

Not very many people in this world can say that.

  • True, True, ATA should have just stayed int he Charter industry, they would still be around if they did. sad :( Anyone know where their ATA aircraft have gone???

  • @jjayi3 Yes me too also the 757 I was based at jfk then dtw

  • favorite airplane paint scheme besides Delta's! :)

  • I Used To Fly Gulf Air From The 80s To Mid 90s I Loved Those It Kinda Reminds Me Of The Cadillacs!!

  • Yeah my fav aircraft to work on.

  • really? those things are angels!

  • I used to fly on ATA TriStars to Hawaii all the time. This sure brings back memories.

  • Lockheed 1011 tristar - Among the best aircraft everbuilt...so wonderfull beauty bird... awosome backside looking take-off.

  • I worked for ATA and Ambassadair for only 5 years in Indy, but it was the best 5 years! I miss that airline such great memories. I used to see the L1011s come in to the hanger, what a sight!

  • Birmingham england And Bangor wales?

  • Bangor, Maine (USA)

  • I took them for granted back in that 90's but I sure do miss the good Tristar. I used to like being in the Delta terminal when ever one of there L1011 started up. Man what a sound.

ATA was a pretty good airline, I wish they could have lasted. Ienjoy both my flight with them.

  • Hey, did you film the 737-200 take off ?

If so please post, I love these old noisey birds.

  • How I loved flying these beautiful L1011's. We used to fly ATA charters to Las Vegas and always seemed to fly on the same plane. His name was "Big Ed" as it was stenciled on the side. What a great airplane and what a great airline. We'll miss you ATA!

  • take care ATA, you will be missed

  • same here

  • Yes, they will.

0 fatalities in 27 years of passenger service. Unrivaled.

  • ? You're not talking about the L1011 itself are you?

  • U better check your facts cause they are way out of line.

The L-1011 was involved in 56 incidents, including 10 hull-loss accidents, with 534 fatalities. The most well known was from Delta 191 that crashed while approaching Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport in micro burst conditions.

Despite its cutting edge technology at the time she did not reach its target sales. But the 250 Tristars that flew made a good impression on all who knew her.

  • yes but at the same time NONE of those accidents were do to mechanical failure or any fault of the L-1011.... wind sheer... fire on ground.. pilot error... ect were all the reasons for the hull-losses..

  • I know that but their are some incidents due to mechanical failure. That's why I find this aircraft an exceptional aircraft.

Compared to the DC-10, she can also had a great history in the beginning but her fall was due to neglect of safety to some problems that the aircraft had & wrong maintenance procedures that led to mechanical failures. The rest were also human errors or weather or ground fire etc.

I find both a great aircraft to see & to fly with.

  • I love that plane!

  • Acft 187 - I was a crew member on that very airplane in 1991 when it did an Around-The-World charter for TMR Tours in Paris. Great memories from an experience of a lifetime are forever linked to the aircraft in that video. Thanks for the memories.

  • i still remember watching this aircraft with the same livery arrive at LAX. It's been years since i last seen a tristar.

  • great take off. Love to see the thrush heat from the engines when it start to move forward. So powerfull. Tristar always make the best. Love Tristar

  • beautiful piece of machinery. Must be a pain to maintain the middle engine.

  • Ah! 1996, the good old days. No terrorism, no drama, no writers strik, and oh yeah, good good telivision shows. Yeah 1996, I'll sure miss those days.

  • Yes, true, tristar nose like a dolphins nose. that make this bird is different from others. I love this bird from my child age and have flew once with it. very wide inside it.

  • You mean you recorded it in July 1996 and added it on youtube in September 2007? Very weird

  • She's a beauty!

  • wow talk about an old video, and the BA 732 in the background!

    thanks for sharing!

  • No worries - check out my channel as I'll be added more clips from the mid-90's over the coming weeks. Plenty of lost liveries there !

  • The L-1011's nose looks like a dolphin's nose. lol

  • It does..

I shall call it Flying Dolhpin!
