I was really impressed with the improvements in feel, fit and finish with the 4th generation series across the board, but especially for the G 22. I have held the 3rd generation G 17 and G 22 and I didn't like the feel in my hands. The G 19 and G 23 fit me fine, but I wanted a Glock in full size. Well, the 4th generation is it for me. It is worth it!
good review man.. no bs. annway i just bought my 23 gen 4 .and its good.. i still dont like the way they fit the hand. but its a warrior so im not mad.
i have never gad a problem with the grip of my glock why would they change that i have no clue what they need to address is the slide stop after a few 100 round you need to lift up on the slide stop with a screw driver and then your done untell it stops working again.
Have you had any problems with lower quality, lower pressured ammo such as the Wal-Mart federals in 180 grain? Because from what i have heard, the "dual recoil spring" is rated at 22-23 pounds where as the stock tension is around 18 pounds?
@Gunfreak513 Hi, while im not the poster I can answer this for you. I haven't hear of this problem with the .40 cal glocks, but the Glock 17 9mm's, some people have reported this happening. If you decide to buy a 9mm gen 4 and have problems. Strip the slide down and look a the recoil spring. If you can't find a stamped "2" on it anywhere, just call glock and they will send you a new one, which is much lighter. I didn't have problems with mine but I called and got a new one anywaise.
@Gunfreak513 I could really feel that it was lighter after that, and it feels just like the Gen 3 ( I think it's probably the same exact weight pull).
The 3rd gen seemed like a very good gun with proven reliability. Any idea why they changed the spring? Are the magazines still compatible with the 3rd gen guns?
@TacticalChubby yes the mags are still compatible from generation 1 to 4 but the problem comes if you change the mag release from right hand to left hand then you will have to get mags that are designed for left hand and thes going from right to left hand makes all other glock mags useless.
Glock took too long redesigning the pistol to be more ergonomic, the springfield XD and smith MP series sold a shit load of pistols and are doing a good job at taking glock market share.
Remember Glock has a Homeland security discount. It is for Military and LEO's and the price is $398.00( ID required). This is also know as the "blue label discount" It comes with an extra mag (3 total) and can be ordered straight from Glock. They will however charge you shipping and will have to ship to an FFL. Should in the end be no more than $420-$450 when everything is all said and done. This goes for ALL Glocks, ALL generations and ALL numbers. Just a little FYI, cheers!
@DemskeetSkeet doubtful dude, Glock hasn't released them in the US yet. I've already got a store credit at my gun store. The 19 and 23 are projected for US release in June, 2010. Any questions call Glock at 770-432-1202. Probably be on store shelves in August or October.
@Star113cc Don't know the exact link but google Lonewolf glock barrels and you will see. Specifically my Glock 23 can shoot .4 out of the box, and 9mm with a drop in lonewolf .40 to 9mm barrel along with a 9mm magazine. A lot of glocks are interchangeable. I also have a .22lr conversion for it as well.
.40, 9mm, .22lr, and .357 if I wanted to but I chose not too.
Wow, i like that. I'm planning to buy Glock 22 Gen4 if i can find one and convert it to 9mm if i'm in the range. Now i'm going to google what Lonewolf glock barrel means. Thanks.
I can't comment on the new recoil spring assembly because I have not shot a 4th gen. I do like what they did to the mag release button. I do not like the new grip change feature. It was a good concept, but I feel they dropped the ball. All the "small" size grip does is make it like an "SF" model Glock. They could / sure have included grips with the hump removed. Also, the gap between the removable grip and frame look ugly.
I love all model Glocks, but I still like the 3rd gen best.
the upper part of back strap is not soo flush with the body of the gun very obvious that its an add on.... xdm design is a little better any size of backstrap you install, it doesnt look like an add on
Is the texture under the trigger guard/front grip under the grip different than the gen 3 glocks?
I have handled a glock 23 and just felt like the front texture was too rough and sharp for my liking. I just could not see myself shooting a sharp gripped gun for more than 30 minutes at the range, so I am hoping that they changed the front grip as well as the back strap grip.
15+ year owning Glocks.....not into the new look or the beaker/ pinner grip.....big motherfuckers like me....like the old school brutal ones....boo ya.

Nice handgun, I have already handled the Gen. 4 model, but I have not shot it yet. I'm going to buy the RTF model that came out in early 2009. The early version of the RTF model, because this models are going to be discontinued soon. When the Gen. 4 are going to be in mainstream production. It's just my opinion. But I will buy the Gen. 4 next time. The 3rd generation Glock will also get a new face-lift. Converting to be become an RTF model but going back to the old style slide serr.
Glocks are great but I personally think that the backstrap looks kind of tacky. The XDM and the M&P have very discreet backstraps. You can't even tell they come off but the glocks just sticks out...Still a great gun though.
For those that have one already: About how much did you get yours for? I am currently looking for a gen4 22 in .40 so I just want a few price points from you guys.
Nice review on the Glock 22 gen 4. I just picked one up and what a nice looking gun. Shooting this gun was even more impressive. A target range of 7 yards showed very tight hits. The interchangeable backstraps are the best thing going for this gun. Good Job!
My biggest question about the 4th generation Glocks is.... Will it pass the limp wrist test??? The only flaw of the glock is it will jam if you limp or weak grip the gun while firing. This would be great if the Glock 4th Gen solved that. BTW I am a proud owner of a Glock 17 and it rocks.
picked up mine yesterday...i am using the large backstrap....the grip and texture feel nice....can't wait to shoot it....probably will go monday after work to the range....
my gen 4 model 22 is gunna be in my hands on monday. Glock is sending it to me because i was having problems with my gen 3. Cant wait to see it and shoot it.

The Gen4 23 is on Gallery of guns Gun Genie so they are out now. Just good luck finding one.
