  • Subtle, faint music in the background distracting? Or is it a personal dislike towards Bjork? Granted, she is unusual, but I find that very thing to be what is attractive about her. What about the video? Does that not distract, as well? Do you also have trouble with walking and chewing gum? Sorry, I apologize for that - and yes you can, and will, say what you feel. I find the music & video to be rather complimentary & appropriate - not detracting from the message at all . . . just sayin' . . .

  • the thought comes from our brain but brain cannot work by itself; it needs the heart and other components in our body.. they all work together so therefore what makes the "I" is our whole body? or is there something more to that....

  • @TheUndertakerSaysRIP - Watch on youtube, The Primacy of Consciousness (1 of 7) . I believe eventually you are your Soul or Consciousness :)

  • I immensely enjoyed parts of his thesis in this sort clip with the thesis of björk on loving one's self and love form all around you, even though I am a theist.

in his manner of explaining what we believe it is to identify as human subjugating nature about us, it is strangely intoxicating, simple, and familiar. even if you differ in opinion from someone, there is still truths and lies to observe and learn critically about life,

if only we had the kindness and patience.

  • is it björk my goddess in the background.. björk is art= hoax.

  • what happened to the quality?

this video used to be so good..

  • Hugely stating the obvious..yeah, that's the riddle with a few million theories and religions trying to give it all an answer.. all around us today is the question. Then what ? dust in the wind ?

  • @fondoftheduh then...everything

  • i have read and listened to that lecture before, and i have never been so complled to comment on a video as i am now. i want show my gratitude to such an intresting and like mind. thank you. though i have heard/ seen both separately your eye for bringing the two complementary beauties togeather has influenced an even greater beauty and tears.

  • were those lesbian robot chicks?? o wait is that an anime movie title?? lol

  • the music distracts me

  • @yoseph89 IF you had no music, or music which didn't match the video, you would also complain. And if there was no music and no video, you would complain that this is youtube, and meant for video clips not audio clips. Are you happy?

  • im just saying it is distracting.... for me, and I will say what I feel. Alan Watts is a figure of controversy and instrumental tones can deliver aesthetic bias that does not examine what is really being said. Musical videos are sometimes fun and touching, but they can also be deceiving or distorting.

  • @yoseph89 Your mind's chattering about the music distracts you

  • I am pretty sure that if I an Alan met, we'd have been able to communicate...

I can't speak as him...I contradict every mindset I get into...even this one...! Turbulence of thoughts, mind sets...I know I'll die...but there is something that would happen...!

  • beautiful......a video after my own heart. bjork and spiritual thinking.

  • the real us is the soul which we can't see the body Is just a prison.

  • @speedy1vrs haha

  • everything outside myself is not my body?? take the example of a violinist's violine on which a drop of water falls and the violinist feels the drop as if it falls on himself... take me on a motorcycle stabilzing "myself" not by limb coordination but by a sharp acceleration from an instabile slow velocity... if the motorcycle and violine are, however, seen as parts of my body, the claim is rather trivial, then yes, everything outside my body is not me... ;)

  • that whole beginning part is him speaking on behalf of the great majority of people. HE believes everything outside himself is also himself, he's an advocate for unified consciousness field. For those unfamiliar with his work, he puts the talk into perspective for them at the very end.

  • well, I don't feel that EVERYTHING outside myself is also myself but I was defininately giving an argument for his claim that consciousness involves more than one's own body if the outer skin layer is seen as a border of it...

  • "I don't feel that EVERYTHING outside myself is also myself"

    why?

  • if you don't mind me asking

  • no, i don't mind... well, first of all because in this formulation that I got from you, it simply would be a logical contradiction: I paraphrase: Everything that is not myself is also myself!?!?

but even if I reformulate: "everything outside my body is me/realm/extention of my consciousness..." then still i cannot agree because, say mars, a planet in our solar system, is mars me or part of me?? it can become part of a sensorimotor contingency but the point is not at all times...

  • the gist of becoming conscious of something is that at the moment of the instantiation of the conscious perception of it, other things must drop out the "picture" if you pardon the word... so potentially, yes, all objects may become part of my conscious action, but they cannot all be part of my consciousness or of "me" at all times...

  • You make a good point. I must say though that Jupiter or Mars or the Big Bang is most definately you! In fact it is just as much you as it is anything else... Names are just silly sounds that we use to catergorize what is basically the same thing! "Life" The Process of NOW! Words have gotten out of control! but that's OK because Chaos is our best friend! there is no "you" in control of NOW! there is only "Now which is random chaos!" Enjoy the show!!!

  • you cannot categorizes same things. I cannot be conscious of something, if there is no difference in sense-data when perceiving that something, if all is the same, then consciousness is impossible. but i'm not sure you understood the point you praised me for.

  • Well i dont feel nature is stupid it is the most complex beautifal work of art i have ever seen you say it is a dog eat dog world they kill to survive humans are the only species who kills simply out of morbid curiosity so i dont believe we are better and to believe we can ever conquer nature is but an illusion

  • what is that video of the robot(s) from? is it a music video?

  • yes it's a video for Bjork, produced by Chris Cunningham, a brilliant artist.

  • Allan watt was an amazing soul. HOW GREAT DEEP SPIRIT.

  • The man read Descartes and misunderstood.

We cannot conquer nature. We are nature.

  • He Was being sarcastic.

  • Sure?

  • I don't know... and I don't care, I'm eating CHIKEN LOL. I'll care later, though.

  • It's a worthy attitude - consideration begets dissatisfaction in my experience. However, ignorance begets - well pretty much everything else bad you can think of. Let's all eat the chicken we take for granted and live contented lives...

  • Good point!

  • Thank you! A very good mix of Three wonderful people

  • that was the best video ever. who was that talking?

  • i think you might have trouble finding your "I" if you can't read description...

  • alan watts

  • Love this video. Great combo. Might want to check out Dancer in the Dark if you haven't. Beware though, not an uplifting work. Sober. Thanks Matt.

  • What is has always been.

  • wow, this was great! I love it.
