  • @foreverltu Uh... the tf2 characters have humungous hit boxes and the hitboxes bounce around and do not animate with the taunts... and lag would make the hitboxes more accurate, since the server is going off what the player says, not the other way around.

  • Theres ways to set your rates to "correct" the problem. rate, cl_cmdrate, cl_updaterate, cl_interp look it up. You should set some of them atleast because your game by default is set for a slower connection. If you mess around with the interp it can make your game choppy specially with higher pings so I never snipe with any higher then 60 ping. Also huntsman ftw!!!

  • Normally, I can just flick my mouse and get a headshot. It's odd but satisfying.

  • @HatOfOmnipotence How much did you practice to do that? What I do is aim ahead of the other player until they walk into my shot. Its sound a little nooby but it usually doesn't take that long.

    It's a tough thing to pull off, but I've grown to be attentively spastic and twitchy when I play as sniper, allowing me to lock on target quickly and make my shot. I may not get a headshot every time, but at the very least Ill get a full charged body shot.

    Also, your method isn't nooby in the slightest, really. It's an actual tactic used by real snipers. So don't put yourself down as a noob for that. :p

  • @The212b I haven't really played many FPS' with sniping, to be honest. Although, Starwars Battlefront II does come to mind. It's a great game and has some fun sniping maps.

  • @Radicaldanny In case you haven't noticed or are unfamiliar with SOURCE hit detection, you have to aim behind moving targets, not ahead of them like common sense would suggest.

  • @Radicaldanny Actually, if you play Battlefield 1942 or Red Orchestra 2, in those games you have to aim ahead to compensate for lag, especially if your ping is above 100 ms. These two games also don't have hitscan bullets, they actually simulate their travel time and that overexxagerates everything even more.

    In most modern mainstream games, you have lagg compensations that do this for you, but they often overcompensate, that's why you have to aim behind.

  • @Radicaldanny Lag compensations make nothing but hurt players with good connection and cater to players with bad connection. You can often get killed long after walking behind corner because of them.

  • By the way, this limitation of our current technology that produces a latency/delay only makes aiming that much more difficult.

    The server is rarely wrong when determining if a shot hits. That is, the server will never say you hit when you did not, through the perspective of the server, hit the player where the server (coordinately speaking) has observed the player to be.

    The server could care less about the visible position you see the character at. That is a handicap for humans, to see.

  • @swim2themooon No, that makes no sense. Why would you aim to the right of their head if they are just standing still? They aren't actively moving to another position.

    This idea of "leading" your aim to compensate for lag has always been present in first person shooters. In real-life, you have environmental factors when shooting that you must account for which could be construed as a form of latency, too...

  • You talk about your ping, but you aren't shooting yourself.

    The person you're firing on, their ping must be considered too.

    Assuming he has 100 ping, that's a .10 sec delay that the bullet's registered hit would display blood. The invisible area, the area he was NOT at, at the time of the blood splatter was where he actually was when the hit was registered.

    This is explained by the latency producing a delay from your shot, his movement, and finally to registering with the server.

    The word isent hitboxes but its to do with TF2s netcode as far as i know there is one where the enemy is on your screen there is one where then enemy is on their screen and one where the server is

  • @HesterDW Honestly, the hit boxes in TF2 aren't that great but they definitely are better than CS:S. I would say Garry's Mod hit boxes are the best I've ever seen (not noclipping).

  • It was the pyro. Notice it said username + username sniper killed username. The reason It showed the sniper kill is because you did more damage.
