FNA if it looks like it can fly throw a rocket in it's ass and let her rip. 485 km. If you said that's a wast of gas your a fag and drive a hybrid just so you can get that special parking space at fresh and easy you little pussys. Who gives a shit if it's dangerous. It's also dangerous for you to walk from your special parking spot to inside the store without a butt plug....megladouche
That is one liquid fueled lox/kerosene engine, with about 1,400 lbs thrust. Solid rocket engines are not safe, and would run very roughly. Also, the engine on the X-Racer does not need to be throttled, just turned on and off.
@jewfishie2 Except that very comment is a complaint. Let me explain it in case you don't understand; you're saying you 'waste' fuel, I.E., you make it sound like you're upset that you're wasting it. Sorry, but your logic is flawed and hypocritical.
It does look interesting, but it seems like most of the revenue would be from television, as the race courses would have to be in remote areas. However, before WWII, air racing was quite popular.
it's not military.. the engine and everything else in these planes was designed by scaled composites in mojave california. it is a private company that has also flown to space and done things that the military can only dream of at a fraction of the cost.
NOT! Engines were developed, built and tested by a much smaller company also in Mojave, XCOR Aerospace. The racer is the 2nd gen rocket powered aircraft from them. They were the FIRST private company to accomplish this feat! Osh was the first public flight after 21 test flights in Mojave.
yes.. you are right and i am mistaken. i was probably thinking of burt rutan who is the designer of the EZ airframe that the rocket plane is based on.

I don't know about rocket planes. But they do have air races in non-remote areas.
Search Red Bull Air Race.

How wonderful for the military-industrial complex. :-/

It isn't being used for military purposes. Everything you see here was developed FOR and BY the military long ago.

Yep. Powereed for few minutes and then gliding, looks like it!
