No need to make perfect contact, you can get away with a bad swing.

Also, remember in 2004 when he had 177 "intentional walks," and yet still hit around .340 with about 40 home runs.
take away bonds' use of the roids and he has what.... 690 home runs maybe 700? Then give back say, 30 home runs for all the pitchers he faced that were juicing as well and you still have the 2nd best home run hitter in history. Who knows, if he hadnn't used the Giants may have re-newed his contract since he wouldn't be a media nightmare and he still may have broken aaron's record... just in 2008 perhaps.

I don't understand why everyone is crying about the steroid era and how its cheated the game. You give anyone of us massive amounts of steroids we couldn't do that. Should we put and asterisk next to DiMaggio hitting streak since he played in a non integrated league. It doesn't make sense baseball is made for cheaters its just part of the game from the black sox to the steroid era there is always a reason for an asterisk.

Today, there's only a few truley good stars in the MLB that I respect. Guys like Albert Pujols, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodreguez (or however you spell his last name), and guys like them. @lunarvines *facepalm* This argument is so invalid, it's stupid. Bond's had been trained to see, follow, and hit a baseball his whole life - a wrestler/body builder hasn't. Moreover, wrestling is fake, along with most of their bodies. Lastly, steroids doesn't help you actually hit the ball, but it just makes it so much easier to hit it out. No need to make perfect contact, you can get away with a bad swing.

This "roids" issue in baseball is ridiculous...roids make you stronger, faster...thats all, so they basically skipped out on a few visits to the gym per se...so what? Mark still knocked em all outta the park, it doesn't take superhuman muscles to hit a home run, it takes hand eye coordination, a bad pitching choice and a bit of luck, but any average man has the strength to hit a friggin ball 400'.

@Erii77 maris was in the middle of a great lineup in 61 so he got pitches to hit. also yankee stadium was very short down the right field line which helped and the season was expanded to 162 games from 154 that year. his hair began to fallout because of the stree and hate mail he was receiving from people who didnt want him to break ruth's record.
Bonds on the other hand gained 70lbs of muscle over his career, from 170 to 230. thats almost impossible in a short span without roids

Sad to say...next home run king....Alex Rodriguez. At age 34 and 585 homeruns, he needs only 178 more to pass Bonds. Realistically , if he plays until 40-41 without prolonged time on the DL, he will hit 178 more hr's in the next 4-5 seasons.

No one cheered for Bonds because he was extremely disrespectful to the league and the record holders. Hank Aaron didn't want to see his record broken by such a dick. Bonds thought he was the best, and told everyone about it. Steroids have nothing to do with it. No one liked him and never will. When he filed for free agency after his long time with the giants, he wanted 20 million a year at 40 years old and not being able to cover any ground or even run anymore. People seem to forget that the steroid-era Bonds was hardly ever pitched to, which limited his home runs.
If he hadn't done the steroids, he would've been pitched to more...and his home run totals would've probably been very similar. He was a 40 HR per season guy before the steroids, and a 40 HR per season guy after the steroids. Aside from the 2001 season, the change came in his on-base %, sluggering %, and OPS, not his total number of home runs.

barry bonds was a great player before the steroids. no one is disputing that. after he started injecting, it just became unnatural. it used to be baseball players would play till they couldn't anymore and you would see their rise and graceful fall. those players earned respect.
there's a reason why bonds was boo'd when he hit #756. you'd think a record like that would have called for massive media coverage, fireworks, cheering, etc. but there wasn't. because everyone knew it was a joke.

Also, Steroids just don't make hit home runs all the sudden. You have to be a good hitter, which means you have to make contact, without contact you will be just a strong guy that strikes out. That's what sets bonds out better than mcgwire, because bonds could single or homer.

Take into fact that barry bonds was a hell of a player before he started injecting. He won 3 mvp's before this happened. Steroids helped him play better at an older age (obiously) and hit the ball further, he was already a home run hitter. Remember he was in the 40-40 club once and the 30-30 club 3 times in the 90's, along with gold gloves. (pre-steroids). Also, remember in 2004 when he had 177 "intentional walks," and yet still hit around .340 with about 40 home runs.

Then give back say, 30 home runs for all the pitchers he faced that were juicing as well and you still have the 2nd best home run hitter in history. Who knows, if he hadnn't used the Giants may have re-newed his contract since he wouldn't be a media nightmare and he still may have broken aaron's record... just in 2008 perhaps.
