just wondering, is there a particular reason why this is played in d minor instead of the original c# minor? it's also really nice to see that you're going for cleanliness of each note before speeding up. just a little advice, loosen up, you seem a bit tense
hey man, didnt expect this one to be in your list of covers :) i guess your into progressive stuff.. are you also a fan of metal? cause i noticed you have some pretty awesome skills. i would love to see some more metal covers from you :) 5 *'s
Where'd you learn this from? looks like an official DT book? which one? I asked because i'm also learning this, but from the tabs from Ultimate guitar. It's not always accurate.
good luck with guitar and phys at iowa, both are interesting and will keep you busy in your free time.
nopedopes - it would be the DT book for the train of thought album, i believe that's the album with this song - haha yes, the little free time i have haha :) rock on man! I actually just graduated and will be continuing into the graduate program in the fall!
I have watched a few of your video's and the kind of music you play is so different from what I play, yet I like it alot, and it looks like it's not even a big deal for you to play this good :o!
yeah but if you had something like gearbox so that you could just go straight from your amp to the guitarport and bypass the gearbox effects, then it would be straight sound, no mic needed.
oh i see what you're saying, you mean if i used the output on my amp to bypass the amp's speakers and just go straight into the computer. i have a tascam US-122 that I use with 1/4 inch jacks on it for direct line recording, but compared to the sound of a live amp, well, there's really no comparison
there's actually a mic in the front of my amp, recording straight to my computer. My room wouldn't make the sound tinny, it would actually deaden it quite a lot from all of the absorbent materials! .flv files don't exactly have the best compression algorithms so it's hard to get a quality sound out of it.
considering i'm reading the music i'll give ya that it sounds rehearsed and lacking life haha
What book did you learn this from? id like to get my hands on a copy :P That was a sick cover, you ALMOST nailed the sweeping lol, maybe you should record a new version? but it's fine
yea--it's really hard to get it all in on 1 take haha--they have the official book out there somewhere, you can find it on WorldWideWeb dot dreamtheater dot net
That's killer man. Brave to take on Dream Theater tunes. Was waiting for the rock at around 3m and wow..you ripped it up. Petrucci is such an unselfish player, but when it's he steps up he STEPS UP..
ya, john is the perfect example of tasteful shredding, musical shredding--he doesn't just play scales, he writes melodies.. he just plays them extremely fast :)

your good with chords, but your solos lack feeling and get a little rushed at times.
also, play straight to your computer so you dont get the tinny sound of your room.
