The fact that there are even 27 people who disagree with what's being said here makes me fear for our country. Spending-wise, there's not much difference between Democrats and Republicans. It's the SPENDING that we need to deal with, not the partisanship. OVERALL taxes should NEVER exceed 20% of GDP. Obama's last budget wanted this number at 25%. Neither party has the spending restraint integrity needed.

What Wild Bill seems to ignore is that most of the money borrowed from China was spent not by the current liberal congress but by our previous conservative president. The war in Iraq was financed by loans from China as a way of getting the money without adding it to the annual budget. Rather than asking Americans to chip in to support the war (as had been done with earlier wars), we borrowed the money.

For example, a president can alter a law by using 'signing statements', or can appoint people to positions when congress is not in session using 'recess appointments'. I sure don't agree with letting the debt get this high, but that is definitely not Obama's doing, yes he did not help, but people who know the economic facts know that not raising the debt ceiling would be a million times worse than increasing debt. The reason we're in this situation anyone who has any sense would know that Bush & His cronies got us into this situation. We borrowed money for a war (Iraq) that was unfounded. Pres. Obama didn't put our country in this mess he STEPPED in the stinking pile left him to clean up. What was creating in 8 yrs can't be cleaned up in 4 yrs, plain and simple. We once again (like Clinton) have a Pres. whob cares for we the people, not the upper 2%

What Wild Bill seems to ignore is that most of the money borrowed from China was spent not by the current liberal congress but by our previous conservative president. The war in Iraq was financed by loans from China as a way of getting the money without adding it to the annual budget. Rather than asking Americans to chip in to support the war (as had been done with earlier wars), we borrowed the money.

@artstop, What you seem to ignore, is that we had a Democrat congress and senate, for the last two years of Bush's presidency. The president can not spend a cent, that congress doesn't grant him. Now we are involved in 3 wars and have covert troops in Yemen and will be involved in a FOURTH. Kinda looks like the Progressive Globalist, G.W and the Progressive Globalist Marxist, Obummer have been working toward the same goal.... The collapse of our economy & submission of the American People.

@cowgirlmoon Congress only has the opportunity to vote on expenditures that are included in proposed budgets. There are ways to get around congress. For example, a president can alter a law by using 'signing statements', or can appoint people to positions when congress is not in session using 'recess appointments'. Instead of putting Iraq costs in the budget, Bush asked for 'emergency funds' whenever money ran low, thereby pressuring congress to approve so as to not starve the army.

Which is the higher amount...... 700 Billion, or 1.5 Trillion? Come on...... We can't ignore the difference...... @cowgirlmoon Putting the request for money at a point when the army was on the verge of not having money to continue is pressure. And that is the way it was done. A war paid for not by tax revenue but by loans from China. We would not be at the 1.5 trillion if not for the 700 billion, which are expenses that did not remain stable but continue to grow each year. We had a government that went from surplus (which even Tea Party member Rand Paul acknowledges) to deficit. Guess why.

You want to give the Dems a pass, but the truth is, they did it then and congress continues to carry out both wars and now, Obummer has added 2 more wars.
