  • Just a spell check: it's 'society*'

    Love Schaeffer.

  • Excellent presentation of objective truth, I could use this footage whenever is needed, but mostly to people who believe in relativism they need to watch it. You don't find these kind of high quality, well produced christian documentary films often nowadays.

  • This video doesn't actually deal with the question of whether Christianity is true, but only that belief in a personal God is necessary for a stable society. The problem is that the Bible's message of salvation and damnation is harsh to our modern ears and it's so very important to KNOW that what we believe is TRUE before we evangelize and dedicate our time and energy to spreading this gospel.

  • I don't care, I don't believe this for a second.

  • I got my proof there is a God, you want proof, follow directions like I did, then you get it, there are no shortcuts. The only shortcut I will give is to tell you truth, which is God is as real as you or I, he revealed himself to me, he is!

  • The problem with Christianity was that it replaced the knowledge of the Classical Age with a thousand years of Dark Ages, in which people were largely illiterate, their lifespans were short, and technological progress came to a virtual standstill.

As for totalitarianism, Christianity only became a mainstream religion because the totalitarian Emperor decreed it so eventually. And it resulted in monarchs, ruling "by grace of God." God himself is an imaginary totalitarian dictator.

  • Hey!

    We are in 2010!

2010 years since what? 2010 years since what?

    oh yes!

  • How is unbelief equated with apathy? Takes more motivation to question this crap than it does to just accept it.

  • belief in a god ened in the death of 3000 americans on 9/11/01

  • Belief in no God, as with Mao, Stalin, and Pol Pot has killed a few hundred million.

Man will always find an excuse to kill. Alos man will always find a scape goat to accuse something he doesn't like or has limited understanding of.

  • Of course there aren't a million dissenters on this thread. This is one of those messages that just hits you in the mouth and tells you to take your medicine. This is the truth about our society and everyone should be able to see it.

  • Hmm...

Nope. I'm still gonna' stick with atheism.

  • I find it amusing that according to his own rationale Rome became much worse upon becoming, well...Christian.

  • Apparantly you missed the point totally because of your lack of comprehension. Rome collasped because of its lack of a moral foundation. The christians were persecuted because they opposed the ways of Rome.

  • actually rome didn't start to collapse untill after the christians took over as the sole religion of the empire. they killed way more people after they gained controll, the first things they did were to persecute every other religious belief.

go read a real history book

  • Actually I did study History and Christianity had nothing to do with the fall of Rome, it was in moral depravity long before Christianity arrived and was alrdy in Decline and loosing most of its territories.

killed more people after they gained control? is false also, you don't know your history at all.

now if your talking the Roman Catholic church

"Vatican" yes it rose up from Rome.

  • Amen.

  • I feel apathic...

  • I'd be happy to speak with you. I'm out of town right now for a week, though, but if you reply, I'll save it and respond accordingly in the next two weeks. One thing I'd like to point out first, though, is that you've already set up a false dichotomy and committed the informal logical fallacy of begging the question. You said, "what drives some people to effectively sacrifice reason for belief". You assume that faith is not reasonable in your premise and present them as opposites.

  • What is Gods plan for atheists?

  • I'm not sure what you mean by this question, but I'll try to address it correctly. First, I don't believe atheists exist by definition. I believe there are many who don't believe in God, but I don't believe there are people who deep down truly believe the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob doesn't exist. I have a video on that if you're interested. Second, if a professing atheist doesn't repent of their sins and believe in Jesus Christ, God plans to send them to hell for eternity.

  • which one?

  • You must feel wonderful, being able to dispense your absolute knowledge and your predictions of absolute divine justice. What a pity for your belief system that the God of Love is the final arbiter of the past, present and future, and not your interpretation of goodness knows what interpretation of biblical texts.

  • Well, you obviously believe that your interpretation of goodness is right or you wouldn't take the time to try to persuade me that mine is wrong like when I read words about people burning in hell where the worm never dies, etc. You know; things Jesus said. What is your authority?

  • I have no authority, only my personal interpretations and beliefs, based on texts and the thoughts of others, including your own. What I do not claim to know, is God's plan for ANY indivdual or group of individuals. I doubt you can persuade me that scripture can EVER reveal absolute truth, because this would limit an Omnipotent God. That is the basis of my personal belief-for a truly omnipotent God, as it must be, nothing is absolutely ordained.

  • Do you not understand that you do have an authority? You say that "I have no authority, ***only my personal interpretations and beliefs,*** based on texts and the thoughts of others, including your own." It is yourself. I doubt I could persuade you that Scripture does reveal absolute truth. The Bible never said that unregenerate people would find its arguments convincing but it goes as far to say that they will find the message as foolishness. Do you believe there is absolute truth?

  • As T.S Eliot wrote-

"To what purpose disturbing the dust on a bowl of rose leaves I do not know" Thank you for posting the video. A very interesting series which I will seek out now in entirety. sadly, this kind of Television programme is increasingly hard to find.

  • Logical errors abound:

"I doubt you can persuade me that scripture can EVER reveal absolute truth, because this would limit an Omnipotent God"

If you're saying it's impossible for an omnipotent God to reveal His Truth through Scripture, you deny His omnipotence. Why would God be incapable of doing that?

  • If god plans to send me to hell for eternity as an athiest, then he can't really love all his people (of which I would be one) as you profess. Athiests do exist by definition, and existed long before the Abrahamic religions were invented by the old men of the day to control their people. Ra the sun god, egyptian gods, roman gods, norse gods, why should the god you worship be any more the "one true" god than the many that came before? I'd be interested in your views, the bible proves nothing.

  • These are gods of humanism which man has made

    with our own minds which is Idolatry exodus 20;

verse 3&4.They do not exist from all eternity.

Colossians chapter 1verse;13-17 saids GOD exist

from all eternity His Son who is from all eternity and the Holy Spirit.Pray for his mercy and His Grace

  • @georgeatthecross Why is god so narcissistic that he needs to be praised by billions multiple times a day and if we don't, we get sent to a lake of fire for eternity. Sounds like someone has an ego problem. He needs to get past this whole "I-created-the-universe" thing. If I were to have (or "create") a son and have him praise me multiple times a day every day, I'd be one weird ass person.

  • maybe true hell is not knowing god/being in tune with the universe...?

  • He does'nt send you. you send yourself because you reject him. You are free to do so.

  • Archeological findings have proven that these "gods" of ancient days are false. They have shown statues of these gods with trickery mechanisms to make them look like they talk or move. There is only one true God. The one of the Bible. The One who Is, who WAs and who Is To Come. Scientist & Atheist have been trying to disprove the bible since beginning of time, yet, NOT ONCE, have they been able to falsify the writings of the Bible. The findings only conclude the accuracy of the bible.

  • Well if there isn't a god (and there's no evidence at all that there is, and btw the existence of religion doesn't prove the existence of god) then there can't be a plan.

So as an athiest, I will embrace my life and live it to the fullest. If there was a plan it would relegate us all to the part of actors in a large play. Sorry to break it to you, but you don't need religion to be a nice caring person, that's a common human trait not a common religious one.

  • Where did you see anyone on this video or in the comments claim that "you need religion to be a nice caring person"?

  • why embrace your life or live it to its fullest? what is the standard by which you developed this philosophy? Did you just make it up? Interesting.

  • United States or modern-day society is no more dangerous than one's own heart. that is the biggest danger bcz " the heart is deceitful above ALL things".

We need to focus on our own salvation "in fear and trembling", not on what everyone else is doing.

  • It's true that we need to examine ourselves in light of Scripture, but John also says to not believe every spirit and test them to see whether they're true. (1John 4) How can one do this if they are entirely focused on themselves alone without omitting John's admonition? One can't.

  • i think the second will naturally result from the first. thx.

  • I heard Francis Schaeffer's son, who shot this documentary, speak about his book, "Crazy For God," which sounds very interesting. It was very insightful to hear him speak about his father and the evangelical movement in general.

  • Yeah, from what I've heard Franky fell off the deep end. It's sad. He's turning out to be nothing like his father.

  • We must pray for Him.

  • Thank you for posting this important video. I pray that God would place in each heart fervent, urgent hunger to know Him.
