  • That's a pretty song! wow.

  • If you want updates on the fam, just gi like their facebook page and join their message board at yahoo groups...

  • I admit to being a Sylvers groupie for quite some time. You can't listen to this jam without recalling the best love in your life and wondering... If you've ever been in love, you can't listen without at least a tear in each eye -- so sad, yet marvelous to feel.

  • I am reminded of the 5th dimension. The Harmony and flow is tight.

  • P.S., so smooth!

  • I remember the sight and the sounds of the Sylvers on Soul Train (a great way to keep up with the best Black music, when the radio stations would lag...). The vocals were just as smooth as the Main Ingredient. It's hard to believe so much talent was focused in one family - - the DeBarges must have been copying their style (no offense to the 'cousins' from Grand Rapids...).

  • That old adage is true. Talent and good looks don't always compliment each other. But the Sylvers, Tavares as wll as Debarge, were that rare exception!

  • Just watched the show on "unsung" for the 3rd time!!!. I really liked The Sylvers during their heyday... I was in my mid to late teens during the mid-late 70's and like most young black teenage males I had a super crush on Angie and Pat. I remember seeing them in "Right On " magazine and took their pictures and pasted them on my bedroom wall! I still listen to their music quite a bit and I really love hearing Angie and Charmaine singing their hearts out on this song...still sounds beautiful.

  • @mellomarv

I love the sylvers i just watched " unsung " for the 15 th time!!! and like yourself i had a large crush on pat and angie but alittle more of a crush on angie. I hope they get all the things they deserve because they were taken by some manergers when the were younger...... they sound so good together. Q

  • Wow Unsung interview was EXPLOSIVE, I never knew what Olympia was going through. I had no clue Ricky & Foster were in prison for parole violations. I am glad they're getting it together. But I must say they sound good still. Angie was always my favorite. I didn't expect so much weight gain tho LOL, but I was glad to see them, and they all looked good. I must say I had the whole Leon situation mixed up, the group actually voted him out and got screwed in the end over a record contract SMDH

  • @masculine31

You're right. Leon has worked with some great people. The Whispers, Shalamar, Janet Jackson, etc. he definitely has an ear for music. If his siblings had left when he did and they stuck together, they would have gone far.

  • @SuperMonique1974 Wasn't classic how one man broke them up? Wow and SMDH I was so mad, because that was my ultimate all-time favorite group! I think I was their youngest fan in the 70's. Oh well, I wished they would've given 2hrs for this show, because no footage of Edmund was really given. I think Leon produced the Debarges, I saw him on some Pebbles & Cherrelle stuff I think, don't quote me LOL he was just a great composer, writer, arranger, singer, and just had an ear for music.

  • @masculine31

I feel the same way! It would have been nice if it were for 2 hours. They are a very talented and gifted family. They don't make 'em like that anymore. :0( Music has changed soooo much. The stuff that's out now doesn't even compare to the music that you and I grew up on. They don't know what their missing.

  • @SuperMonique1974 Yes Unsung missed the boat on this one, they needed 2hrs. LOL I am in shock how REAL they were with everything. I feel so bad, and these music execs are crooked to the 5th power SMDH! I'm glad they still sound great tho. I am hoping Ricky & Foster get it together.com

  • @masculine31

Me too. I was so hoping that we would get to see Foster and Ricky sitting and talking like the rest of their siblings. Now, I see why Mama Foster wanted to be their for her kids in that business. I'm almost sure she knew that there would be some shady folks around. I felt bad that their father left her with 10 children to raise on her own. But, like you said, I hope that Foster and Ricky get it together.

  • @SuperMonique1974 I was disappointed at 1st, but like they said it happens in every family...I wish I had the power to get rid of drugs & alcohol forever. It ruins families. The mother just didn't know better, having all those kids back then. Its weird how guys run away from their responsibilities. My Dad was like that too. Its so weird, I would want to be in my child's life forever, no matter what!

  • @masculine31 I think Unsung did a pretty good job, but I do believe I probaly could have put together a better show with more samples of their tracks and more pictures and interveiws, but I still enjoyed it

  • @A12jazz The more I look at it, it does look like RUSHED production. I'll take it tho. Hopefully there will be an update, when Foster & Ricky are out of prison.

  • @masculine31 I hope that family can capitalize on this renewed fame and yes an update definitely would be nice!!

  • Awesome...glad TV1 Jumped on this...I am going to email them to start airing the commercials for it LOL

  • Per Angie Sylvers, the Sylvers Unsung episode will air 8-1-11 on TV ONE. If the date changes she will let us know...

  • @COP20VOW I am SOOOOO happy TV One listened to us. We were begging them to do an episode about the Sylvers, my all-time favorite group on the planet. I still have every last album they made. I cannot wait for tonight.

  • The guitar solo is beautiful. Is that Ricky on guitar?

  • HI Angie,

How are you and the rest of your family? Do you keep in touch with them I have enjoyed your music for years. I have been the biggest fan of your music What do you like to do in your spare time? I had such a huge on your brother Ricky, to me he was and still is handsome as ever.

  • love the singing very smooth an nice ,the Sylvers never forget them

  • I never heard this when I was young, as far as I'm concerned I'll love them as much as "El Jacksons"...

  • Where is Ricky?

  • damn u right charmaine slightly pitch higher she so damn sexy i wish i was 10 years older

  • What year was this released?

  • @frankievernon The Concept album was released in 1981.

  • Great song. Sylvers are my favorite group of all time. Yes even over the Jackson 5.

I was sad to hear about Edmund's passing.

    Angie,

How is the rest of the family. I miss you guys but I do have most of your earlier songs on my computer and on my cell. You guys were the greatest. Sitting hear watching the videos of soul train and the different shows you were on bring back wonderful memories.

Was four older siblings called the Four Little Angels before you became the Sylvers?

  • I actually liked the Concept album I believe the reason it wasnt huge cause the record company probably didn't promote it. I think it shoulda been bigger because The Jacksons' Triumph was doing well at this point but they could have overshadowed them at this point

  • @willjarmon

The Jacksons' Triumph lp was released in September of 1980. The Sylvers' Concept lp was released in October of 1981. Concept was a decent lp, but the main reason why this album did'nt do so well was because at that time, SOLAR records were wrapping up their partnership with RCA and owed several more albums from several artists under their roster. Lakeside, Shalamar, and The Whispers' releases were scraps. Dynasty, The Sylvers, Collage, and Klymaxx were rushed and underpromoted.

  • Thankyou for your response. I was a singer in the choir and school. I played in the band ,clarinet. I have loved the sylvers since Boogie fever. Thought that that was the first album, Showcase, but I was enlightened when I discovered youtube about a year ago.

  • Angelia, hello, I'm so happy to see that you are still doing great, and down to earth, and real enough to thank your fans !! That just solidifies the feeling I've always had when I listened to your music, and watched you and your family on T.V!! I was born in 1961, and I remember how happy you all looked when you performed !! I know Edmund is in Heaven singing and teaching the angels dance steps !!!! My love to you all !!!

  • I always loved the Slyvers and this jam is so beautiful and well arranged without any weakness in vocals and instrumentation. Classic Black Music in every respect.

  • Well I can tell the two voices apart. Being a lover of the song Roulette Wheel of Love and Keep on keeping on, Charmaine has a softer higher voice than Angie. Charmaine flows smoothly with her words. Not taking Anything from Angie , now.

  • Thanks for your response.

  • Ms Texas , Who are you? You sound as if you have a very interesting musicical background and that you are very in tune to the black stars, especially back in the day.

  • Hi...the only musical background I have is that I've played in band in high school...and church...and I have had an undying lurve of music since birth. I love listening to it and learning about it.

BTW...ALL of the Sylvers seem to have a nice *wide* vocal range. Check out Cry of A Dreamer and listen to that harmony and those high notes.

  • Who is singing on this song? And do anyone know who sings on aint no doubt about it? If Olympia is singing a duet with Leon on it she has a very deep voice. One might think that she wouldve been a soprano.

  • What beautiful voices!!

Does any of Ms. Sylvers-Polk children sing? I read that one dances.

  • I swear I have become addicted to this song. I am listening at least once a day. Just beautiful vocal performances by the sisters. Love the arrangement and the soft music and the guitar solo. Just perfectly done. Fantastic.

  • City ..I have to agree , I play this song everyday..

  • Great minds right???? Thanks for sharing!

  • I have left comments on other Sylvers' song pages, but this song is so serious... The chord arrangements are xtra tough and the beautiful vocals. Thanks all who cleared up who is singing what verse. I wasn't born until '81 so I don't know any voices other than Edmund and Foster's... Awesome track...

  • Angie with a voice as pretty as an angel. The harmony on this song is so precise.

  • Happy Birthday to you, Angelia. My Daughter, Toni and I wish you the best. God Bless.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANGELIA. LOVE, CONNIE

  • I would like to give a big thank you to 83pimp3 and heryroz27 for the knowledge. Thank you and your both right it is hard to tell them apart but the harmony behind the leads and the harmonies between the sisters is just electrifying~!

    Thanks again!

  • I would buy this record. I love the Sylvers and this is great talent, bring it back, we remember, the harmonies and beauty you guys bring to the words

  • Hi,

They have on itunes the whole album titled "Concept".

  • This is Angie singing lead.

  • True but Charmaine took over the second verse and they blended their vocals together along with Pat's background vocal.

  • @heyroz27 Hi. Do you have anymore songs from this album? This song is so awesome!!!

  • This is a very pretty song, I love the blood harmony behind the lead vocals. I would love to know which sister took the lead and if they have a video of them doing this song. Bravo Sylvers!

  • Angelia, this is your old Colin McEwen friend, Bobby. Sorry to hear about Edmund, tell Jonathan that he owes me another chess game! I hope all is well with you and the family. Bobby Butler

  • lovely. listen 10 times every other day.

  • This song is sooooo offishall... I wish that I could have come up in the 70's so that I could have heard these guys when they first dropped... OMG... Big Ups to the Sylvers, your music has made my musical taste so much better...

  • Wow. Cool!!!!

  • Never heard this one, but I love the sound and the feel. It has that Sylvers harmony with the classic R&B sound of the early 80's. Beautiful!

  • SylverAngel & all the fans: thank you for the music and sharing what you have.

I love the music and I'm just discovering how advanced and sophisticated The Sylvers were, keep showing the world how great you were!

  • Hello, Angie, I remember your family when they were in Memphis...I grew up in north Memphis near the "New Chicago" neighborhood. I have your music on vinyl, 45, CD, and on my mp3...the Sylvers are my all-time, favorite group (the Delfonics all male group is second). Your brother Leon took your family's style and left its imprint on Solar Records and everywhere. If you ever put out another cd, I will be first in line to buy it,not to knock today's music, but we need more of The Sylvers!!!

  • Sounds alot like "Let's Find The Time For Love" by Shalamar. Well this definitely has the Leon Sylvers feel to it.

  • Great story on the recording of this song from Charmaine Sylvers: Lead singer Angie was pregnant and put on bed rest before the track was finished. Leon brought Charmaine (who had left the group a few years earlier) in to finish the vocals. You can barely tell (if at all), they sound so much alike. At 2:58 Angie comes in with "the unfinished letter gave us a second chance at love" at which point (at 3:06) Charmaine takes over and finishes the song. Pure vocal magic!

  • Hey Wayne!

You know after hearing that story awhile back. I now can tell a slight difference in their voices but before I did not have a clue. Like you said pure vocal magic!

  • thanks for the info i couldnt tell too much difference in their voices

  • @WayneInSF Fist thanks for the knowledge. Knowing when to listen for the change really helped! While the difference in their voices is ever so slight it is there for sure. Again thanks for the knowledge, and I would love to know where one could find some more info about the group!

  • This is a nice slow jam. I guess I missed out on them back in the day being so young.

  • God surely anointed The Sylvers for the sound that they created and spreaded through out SOLAR. Thanks for making so many BBQ's in the park back in the day the best years of my life. I just remember the DJ playing all the good music from the best music made. Angie I heard you lost one of your brothers and im sorry to hear that. Please let your family know they used there gifts and talents they were blessed with to the fullest and we the true fans know it's not about sales but qaulity and legacy

  • Yes my brother Edmund past away in 2004. Thank you for caring and for the love.

    Angie. =)

  • I was in middle school during The Sylvers' prime, and I loved your music then and still do today. I hope all is well with the remaining family members. Thanks for the music and memories that go with them. I'm a fan for life.

  • Hello luckylamp:

Thank you for the long term love. :)

    Angie Sylvers-Polk

  • OMNG, Angie is that really you???? if so can you please bless us with your performances from the Misdemeanor song? I remember seeing you guys perform it on Soultrain, but nobody on youtube has it. thanks!

  • Hello UTuber Sandwich:

I don't have any of the videos of our performances. I was speaking with a friend just recently about contacting the television networks and/or different studios to see about obtaining copies of our performances on the various television shows.

I hope all who read this post had a wonderful Christmas, and if not, I my prayers go out to you and your families that this new year bring prosperity in health and in wealth.

    Love Angelia Sylvers-Polk

  • Hi Angelia I just wanted to let you know that I've become a Sylvers fan just a few months ago I've managed to get all of your band's albums and I listen to them all the time and I appreciate all that your group has done to add the richness of the history of R&B and soul music. I hope in the future that even more people like myself discover or people who have forgotten about the music rediscover your music and give it the noterity that it deserves. I hope all is well with you and your family.

  • Thank you so much for this wonderful message. My family is doing well. I pray that your Christmas and New Year was all that you desired and if it was not I pray that this year is better for your and your family.

    Angelia Sylvers-Polk

  • Thank you so much for responding to my message Angelia you made my day!! :)))

  • SylversAngel, I know that these are old post, but I must thank you from the bottom of my heart for the music that became the sound track of my life. I'm 41 now, my son is 18yrs old ,he added your group to his I pod. You're living proof that great music never gets old. The Sylvers are one of the greatest groups of all time!

  • I loved this song back in the day and it sounds just as good now as it did then !!! As Eric below pointed out.. the Sylvers had harmonies and their voices blended so perfectly !!! Very underrated group and the LP "Concept" was slammin' but people slept on it !!! Glad people are hearing this now !!!

  • Beautiful song.

  • Man, this song has some kick-ass harmony. I've always admired the Sylvers songs mainly for how they blend their voices together in harmony. Kudo's to big brother Leon F. Sylvers III for putting that Solar sound behind the voices.

  • Hi Eric:

That Solar sound you are referring to is the Sylvers sound. This song P.S. was written approximately 10 years before we recorded it.

    Love Angie Sylvers-Polk

  • Angie,

Who wrote this song? Sorry, I slept on this album. Was it co-written by big brother Leon F. Sylvers III? BTW I found an article released by JET magazine, the "Where Are They Now" article which updated us on you and your famous siblings. Do any of you ever get back to Memphis?

  • Leon wrote this P.S. I am from Los Angeles. Leon was born in Indiana, Olympia, Charmaine and James and Edmund were born in Memphis. Ricky, Foster, Pat and I were born in Los Angeles, California. No we don't get to Memphis very often. I haven't been there since I was a teenager.

    Angie Sylvers-Polk

  • Sister Angie,

What's up with this? Been checking out your postings and not a mean word to say when you post. C'mon, you're from a famous family of singers admired all over the world. You're supposed to be arrogant and mean and stuck-up right? Sounds like Mom and Dad Sylvers raised some pretty grounded kids. Thank you for responding. Hopefully, you'll stick around. I'm NOT really interested in your personal lives, just school us what you know about the music. Remember we watched you grow up!!!

  • Hello Mrs.Sylvers Polk. This is Croon3.I have been a fan of your brother leons production for almost 30yrs.He is the G.o.a.t.

I was signed to Solar in 89 and one of my dreams was to work with your brother. Un fortunately, he was gone by then. In the 80's if leon didn't do it, I didn't buy it. I would love to work with Leon.Let's bring him out of hiding so the youngsters will know what real writing, producing, and music is.I lived in L.A. off of Pico and Hauser on Masselin ave.Hit me back. Croon3

  • Hello croon3:

Thank you for the love. I sometimes wished I could write music like the rest of my family. But God gave me a different kind of writing skill and I am pleased with that.

    Angelia Sylvers-Polk.

  • You do your thing because when it's all said and done, it's all from God anyways. You stay blessed and in touch.

    Croon3

P.S. What kind of writing do you do?

  • hi angie did the funk bro played on showcase and somthg specl?

  • Huh? I'm not sure what or who you are referring to.

    Angie.

  • im sorry, i wanted 2 know if that was 60s motown funk brothers playing on both showcase and something special album

  • are you all still singing? I saw you guys in Detroit back in the 70's at the state fair and I have been a fan ever since.

    t.

  • Hello Valentinelv:

I never stopped singing around the house and for my family and friends, but it is going to take a minute for the Sylvers to get it together and put out another album.

    Angie.

  • Hey Angie,

I just want to say thanks for replying and I hope that you and all your family are doing well. I was really sorry to hear about Edmund. I do pray that there can still be some more good music in you guys to record once again.

    Thomas.

  • Oh yeah...the name of the Lonnie Liston Smith song that this reminds me of is called Bridge Through Time

  • Everytime I play this in my car and get a good listen to the instruments...the keys remind me of a song by Lonnie Liston Smith.

  • Yeah now that you mention that! You have a great ear at listening to music.

  • Thanks...I try.

  • I used to play this on my slow jam show all the time when I was on the radio back in the 80's

  • ok i like this song now. this is also one of my favorites.

  • I've been waiting for this one......THANK YOU!!!! Good slow jam.

  • Thank you! Thank you!
