@DazmoTube the ubuntu repos are so far behind with lmms , the version they ship is 0.4.5 whereas the latest stable version is 0.4.12. since you are a noob you wont want to be building lmms from source yet i guess, if you do tho pm me and i will guide you through it ;)
@Rakletable this is a sample i created myself, it is uploaded at freesound under my username mikobuntu, i have a lot of dubstep samples there for free download, feel welcome to use any of them ( most are at 140bpm perfect tempo for dubstep ) ;)
Check out my lmms dubstep ppl, its the video on my channel... It only has 1 comment and I wish it had more, it's not that bad really, i think, i've seen a lot worse... So if u would just be so kind to use your 2 mins for this I would be grateful...
hey can you do me a favour and spell out what you did because i cant quire get all the numbers right after i master how to get it ill make my own by the way amazing video!! :)
When you're adding the speed controller to the automation track at 1:27 is that to change it dynamically from 8th note speeds to other speeds within the bar?
@orrymr when i drag and drop the dial it starts at 8ths but as i change it in the automation track the settings cannot be set to specific values, they are just being guessed. hopefully this changes in future versions of lmms.
@SuperLinuxAudioGuru oh and if you mean that they are showing in lmms, thats because i made a symlink (symbolic link) from lmms/samples folder to my /home/samples folder :)
@samboeli i usually justmake a 1 or 2 bar song in lmms, then export it as a .wav file, then open it in audacity and use a calculator to work out the exact length the sample should be ( this is to remove things like reverb tails at the end of the sample) then cut the excess amout from the end and export again to my samples folder.
@KillaAvon yeah, i have the demo of flstudio, it is a really good daw, which i may purchase... but for a free and open source daw lmms is very good...
@SkateIsYourFate use ctrl and drag for dials such as speed on the lfo controller, im unsure if you mean your trying this in the sample track, if so you may need to create an empty segment then drag and drop the sample, im not at my laptop as im answering this now,. but get back to me if your still unsure
@SuperLinuxAudioGuru add a compresser and that will give it that heavy bass feel and also add that 8x over sample effect not sure what it's called but you'll find it in the effects .
@StereoAndSound i have fixed my sound issue with my recordmydesktop screencasting app, and have also devised a few better methods for creating a wobble bass, so expect a vid soon ;)
Because of imprecise LFO frequencies, the LFO is in a different phase each time it loops. Is it possible to reset the controller to the beginning of the phase at the start of each loop?
Is there any way to increase the vertical zoom in the automation editor beyond 800%?
You (and I am because I'm following this tutorial) are working in a very small space at the bottom of the editor, and at that scale, one pixel is way too big a difference in LFO speed to be usable for really precise rhythms.
@ninjacyko reason,fl studio, ableton, they all beat this and the plugins are terrible in lmms thats why i switched to fl studio and also massive i use now for the best dubstep sounds.
@wasteconnectionsdude actually I've stopped using LMMS too now, it's too unstable & wouldn't do what I wanted, even crashed when trying to use it as pure MIDI sequencer. I got Reason working under Wine but mostly just use Seq24 as a MIDI sequencer wired into synths & samplers & Hydrogen for beats, quite happy with that setup now.
@ninjacyko i only tried reason a couple of times but 20mins in a demo is not long enough to learn it. yes ive used seq 24 with a few linux synths and hydrogen all wired through jack, it is flexible. seq24 reminds me of my alesis mmt8 for sequencing, would be good used live
@wasteconnectionsdude yes but remember that all those daws are commercial, they would need to be better than a free daw... and yes a few of the plugins could do with being removed imo as i never really need them.
@schmonable by default the lmms/samples folder is empty, so you will either have to manually place your own samples in there or as i did, create a symlink ( symbolic link ) to your home/samples folder from the lmms/samples folder. i create my own samples and upload some to freesound as user mikobuntu ;)
@OfficialMrMysterio if i think i understand you correctly, you are wanting a gradual change to the speed of the cutoff oscillation. to do this quantize (Q) setting in the Automation-Editor to 1/64 (which is the smallest step size at the moment) , then when you have clicked your starting point for automation click and hold the shift key whilst clicking to your desired 2nd point of automation ;) this will give a ramp between the 2 points.
@SuperLinuxAudioGuru wow, i see 2 people dislike my video, i think youtube should make it compulsory to at least give a reason for disliking a video especially when someone has went to the trouble to make a demo for users, i see a lot of this on very good YT tutorials where the person disliking it probably cant even make a vid themselves, well thats my rant over but needed to get that off my chest.. and also thanks to all for the supportive comments this makes me want to make more tutorials ;)
@bikerdudefiftynine if you mean in the triple oscillator its not a preset i just made it in realtime, not sure that i saved it, or if you mean the sample it is 1 i created myself using lmms and various other linux audio apps ;)
@LoneSohle no problem ;) also got a few dubstep wobbles made with ZynAddSubFX which will be ready soon whenever i get a full (160) patch bank complete... these are all sounds aimed at electronic music. will probably send them to tobydox or pgib so they are part of LMMS, also should complete my soundfont (SF2) too .....
@JamesLitsez I create all my own samples using lmms, ladspa fx and sometimes audacity to create waveforms too... i have uploaded lots of samples to freesound as user mikobuntu, search them out ;)
Nice! -somewhat similar can also be made with the presets own LFO. That has the advantage that you can -save- the instrument as a named preset. Currently lmms does not save rack-LFO connections with saved instruments
@bearsoundz ... thanx, yeah the method you talk about can also be used. I am however able to save LFO connections with a saved instrument, within my own song, but as you say the settings are not saved with the preset instrument for reusing in another song :)
Nifty, this is a nice start. It's also possible for one LFO to control another LFO. (IMO, the automation tracks aren't quite there yet. They work to some extent, yet still feel kludgy and lack the ability to record actions. They're one of the few aspects of the software that still feel difficult to use. But who knows what the next release may bring.)
Back on the dubstep sound... I could see this as being the start of something that gets interesting with the Glitch VST effect applied. =)
@pauljs75 thanx, I will work on better methods if i can find them for wobbles (i can create some nasty wobbles in ZynAddSubFx, but have no way yet of automating their speed).
yeah your dead right about the automation, it needs a way of snapping to specific values instead of just guessing them. Yeah hopefully the next release has automation worked out :)
yeah using the dblue-glitch VST can give some gr8 results, but once again the VeSTige lib has not got support yet for tempo sync.
My second problem is when I'm editing the automation track, it will like cut the sound off sometimes ;/
