Yes, this is playback, but that's how it goes in today's Live Music Industries: The HOSTS pay the BAND to playback. A Dutch band made a backstage documentairy showing that they were told to playback when they got there, and they accidently did a part live, as they didn't know the microphones were still turned on.

First give away that it's playback? Richie isn't using his double necked guitar, which he uses in the song live for the two tones that it provides. (The upper neck for most of the song, and the bottom neck for the solo)
